I think it will be, however that would mean that Gimli would be in 2 of the 4 mooted releases in the midyear release, Aragorn would be also being in the Corsair ship and the Black Gate set. I've given up trying to figure out Lego's minifig set association as it can be random at times.

So in total we have 4 Gimlis and 4 Aragorn,but good thing about Aragorn is that in Corsair ship ambush he has the same printings as before,maybe he will have Lothlorien elvish cape end definitelly Anduril,and at the Black Gate he will have Gondorian printings,which I really like,but I don't like the fact they include Gimli in Elrond's council set,I know that he try to destroy The One Ring in this scene,but isn't it better that we get Old Gloin,I mean,this was the only chance to get him,or even when we got Gimli,why than we don't get in Corsair ship ambush instead Gimli more Undead soldiers or one orc? It would be really much better

I don't think that a Minas Tirith is unlikely, but not something to the scale that a lot of people here are discussing. The solution to making something large in LEGO form is not "make it an exclusive/D2C". It's not always that simple...

I think that a simplified version would do it justice: just 3 levels rather than 7. Have a lower level with the wall and gates, have a second, higher level, with maybe some interior rooms such as the Throne Hall, an armory and what-not, and then the top level, which has the large outcropping which pokes out the front, the white tree and its courtyard (this will be rather small, but we are talking simplified and realistic here), and the pyre room, and possibly the flame beacon. There might be a small catapult for the orcs. I also think this is the best possible set for a Fell Beast to come in: not too small like an Eowyn/Witch-King set, or even an Osgiliath set.

Minifigs: Denethor, Gandalf the White, Pippin (Gondor Outfit), Faramir, Gondor Guard (x2), Mordor Orc (x2), Witch-King.

(And possibly, Gothmog, but I would anticipate a "Uruk-hai Army"-style set which would accompany this Minas Tirith, with Gothmog, some Orcs and an assault tower or catapult, or something like that.)

I think that 3 levels would capture the general shape quite well, while still incorporating all major areas (for such a big place, not much is actually featured) and being affordable for customers, and a worthwhile and feasible set for LEGO to make. That is what I imagine, and I have a very good picture in my head (if I could draw or use LDD, I'd share it, but this description will do for now).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the issue of the Fell Beast: I imagine (and would like it to be) moulded. Doesn't anyone remember the 2007 Castle dragons? That is what I would like - they were a good size, and provide ample amounts of movement and posablity, in my opinion. The Horntail is far too restrictive (excusable: it was before 2007), and until I see a brick-built model which both looks good AND would be something LEGO would do (not just a MOC), then brick-built would not look good.
I think that an Osgiliath set would have to have a Fell Beast however, as that is the most interesting thing that goes on there. All the rest that happens is mostly just background battling, or a precursor to the action at the far-more-awesome Battle of the Pelennor Fields. BUT, I do not think an Osgiliath is likely (I think my idea for Minas Tirith is more likely), until much later in the theme. If there is an Osgiliath set, it will be a much smaller one with a few ruined walls/tower parts, and 3-4 minifigures, that's all.
I also never expected a Minas Tirith in the second, upcoming wave. I predicted an Orthanc (and was at first disappointed when it appeared there wasn't one, and then pleasantly surprised when it was revealed they were doing one, AND it was an exclusive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In terms of the prevalence of Gimli and Aragorn in this wave, I think it makes plenty of sense. Just because a set is the only chance to get a certain minifigure (e.g. Old Gloin in the "The Council of Elrond" set), doesn't mean LEGO will put it in. I doubt that set would be popular with a young child without the play feature, and would wonder who Gloin even is, and why he is in that set! Same for the Corsair Ship - a child will build it, watch the scene, and wonder where Gimli is. They are not, however going to wonder why their ship only came with 2 or 3 undead, instead of 100. From a marketing stand-point, it makes sense. Sometimes (more often than not), AFOLs have to come second, for a reason.

Anyway, those are my ideas and thoughts.

Arwen is the "bonus" minifigure we get in Coulcil of Elrond, LEGO didn't need to put her in but they did anyway.

Old gloin isn't even a minifigure i think I really want... I mean in lotr he's a nobody that does nothing. We already got a proper gloin, young and active!

No offense but don't you think it is a tremendous stretch to even think 'old gloin' would even be rumored to be included in this set? I mean I get it, your a LOTR junkie (I am also), but old gloin? Come on and get real. he doesnt even say a word in the movie, does he? Why on earth would lego even consider including him when there are a handful or more characters who have a bigger role in the scene ? There's absolutely no doubt that the dwarf in the council of elrond set is gimili. You don't have to wait until the toyfair to find out who it is, its gimili in the set, believe it or not.

As far as having multiples of figs, that really doesn't bother me as much as it does other people. The way I display my sets keeps them separate so as along as the same fig isn't released twice in the same set it doesn't bother me. Most of the time I actually end up wishing that I had more multiples of certain figs to match the scenes from the movies I try to display. For example having legalos in helms deep or or the missing fellowship members in moria. I understand that alot of people build their own MOC displays though so I can understand how having multiples could be annoying to them.

I would very much like for the fell beast to be brick built, as i feel the large molds diminish the overall feel of ''lego''.

Any toy company can go ahead and make a plastic molded dragon, but making large creatures come to life in brick built form is what makes the magic of lego.

Also, with the countless new brick molds and colors, it is possible to make it look real, smooth and organic. Something like this smaug:

That's an interesting smaug. Im trying to figure out how the piles of gold under him were built but I can't get a close enough view. Are their any closer pics?

I think that the smug is much bigger than the fell beast should be though. Molded or brickbuilt I trust when we get a fell beast I will be stoked.

I think it's just golden tinfoil or something.

I very much doubt it but does anybody reckon that the tower of orthanc set will be announced at the brick fair 2013 on January 18 because on this link http://www.hothbrick...nvier-prochain/ it says that there is going to be a new exclusive set announced on January 18th, or will it be a non licensed set?

Would be good if it was. But I'm expecting it to be that modular cinema thing, Even tho there are pictures of it I don't think tis officialy announced yet??

^ Yes you could also be right about that, but there would be a designer video of it which would be a good thing :-)

Are there more people than me who would rather have a brick built fell beast? I don't really like the big moulds...

Yes, me. I just don't like the big molded creatures much. They de-emphasize construction and make it more like you're collecting action figures, except no Lego molded creature was ever as detailed as good modern action figures can be. I see everyone talking about how clumsy a brick-built FB would be, and I'm like, really? Have you seen the Ninjago dragons? Or Angler Attack? Or any of the MOCs people here have made of monsters from Bionicle and HF parts? They don't look clumsy at all. They look like awesome monsters... made with Lego. Which is sort of the point of why I do Lego. Even the new Creator eagle is a nice creature model, and that's a $15 Creator set with no special parts at all. I think TLG could design a Nazgul and Fell Beast set going for $25-30 that would look fantastic, with a molded head and maybe new molded wings.

I'll buy a fell beast whether it's molded or brick-built, but I'd strongly prefer the latter. It's just more "Lego".

I know that Gimli needs to be in the set because he try to destroy Thr One Ring,but why than not get Boromir,he was disagreed with everyone,and he even try to put ring on his finger,why not him,and why Arwen?? I know,she lives in Rivendell,but she is not in f...... council.But this is the ONLY,AND ONLY chance to get old Gloin,so I am really dissapointed about that

It's also one of the few chances for us to get Arwen. The only other sets I could imagine her in are maybe some other portion of Rivendell (but considering we're getting one already, chances aren't great) and maybe something from when she's fleeing the Nazgul.

Its old gloin? Did u really think you were going to get him? Did you have your hopes up to get a fig that wasn't in the movie for more than a minute and didn't have a role besides a background dwarf at the council? I mean I get it, he's a connection w the hobbit, gimilis father and obviously a favorite of yours but you couldn't really think that he would come in a set. There's no way you could realistically think that. I agree I think boromir would ve been a good choice to include in the set. Especially since there probably wont be many more chances to see him unless they do a throwback in osgiliath/ minas tirith. But he played a lot larger of a role in lotr than gloin. Even if there were 10 minifigs included in the set I wouldn't see gloin being one of them.

No big deal about Gloin like just minifigure,but we will see definitelly for 2-3 years some other parts of Rivendell,so why we get Arwen in Council of Elrond? We could get except her Gloin.Don't get me wrong,I am not opsessed with old Gloin just like minifigure,but I need him because I have idea for my upcoming professional stop-motion parody in scene Council of Elrond,so that's one of the reasons why I want him

In 2-3 years there may not be more Lego LotR sets at all. We may hope for a long-standing theme, but it is not wise to count on it. As such, this could very well be the first and last Rivendell set ever. It probably is, I think, unless we are so lucky that we get another big D2C set after Orthanc. Then I think Rivendell is quite possible. But it is in that set they should put all the improbable persons, like old Gloin Bilbo. Oops, sorry, no room for Gloin there either.

It is actually rather debatable whether Gloin even is in The Fellowship of the Ring (the movie). We see a white-haired dwarf arriving with Gimli, and that's the guy that was chosen for the Decipher card game. But if that's Gloin, why isn't he attending the Council? Too tired after the travel, I suppose. Decipher has a tendency to just paste names of important characters that were not in the movies to background characters that were, like the Gondorian soldier they called Prince Imrahil (bah! humbug!). Funny enough, the character was originally intended to be Beregond, another important character absent from the movie, but his role was cut so much that Jackson & co. thought it would be wiser and truer to Tolkien not to call him Beregond.

I think that there will be a Minas Tirith NEXT year. It seems just a tad premature for them to do it this year. If they do, we will have no true conclusion/big battle from Fellowship. The Balrog seems like it would be logical to put out this year, as it gives us a conclusion-esque set from Fellowship. (Though either Lothlorien or Amon Hen would be better.)

As for the Hobbit -- we all know they wouldn't miss an oppurtunity to do Smaug in Erebor, would they? That isn't even counting the Battle of the Five Armies. Two potentially big sets that I have no doubt will be made over the course of the next two years.

Because frankly, we may not have two or three more years of LEGO LotR. From what I remember, Indiana Jones was a line that sold really well, but after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out, they only released another wave or two of sets. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened here. If we do get another wave of LotR sets, we absolutely need at least one Gondor set, preferably more. If that Witch-King set doesn't come this year, it should definitely come then, as the Witch-King and Eowen are both key characters. Either a Treebeard or a Balrog set would also seem necessary but I doubt we'll see either in the same wave. If possible, I have confidence they will release some kind of Minas Tirith set. Amon Hen, although not completely necessary, could also make a great set. This doesn't leave a lot of room for Arwen, who is one of the main characters in the movies, and the overall Middle-Earth mythos. Frankly, it is much more crucial she comes in this set than Old Gloin.
