Guys, what You see on the box it is not how it will be,just look at Aragorn,he has a hood,Gandalf has blonde hair, except Mouth of Sauron, there shows Nazgul, and 2 Mordor orcs without armor, but look at down left corner where it shows minifigures. That's how it will be,I like Mordor orcs and their helmets,I know that these helmets are used in Castle sets, but hey, they have pretty much the same in the movie.Only I don't like the fact they come with regullar armor piece, they shuld have some printings like Moria orcs, but maybe they have it under armor piece :) and yes, pretty dissapointed with eagle (Gwalhir) claws,ne needs to have open claws to pick up minifigures, but this is just preview of the box, maybe it will not be like this :) And Gandalf in this scene had only Glamdring, not staff, because Witch King break his staff in extended edition, and it will be cool to get Frodo's Tshirt Mithril piece, because Mouth of Sauron gave it to Gandalf

Well, we might not get a Minas set with Gandalf, so that's probably why we are getting his staff here.

The Black Gate with only one? tower!?? *huh*

Why does LEGO provide us...sorry but ...huh?

Ok, ...LEGO could save the situation if they would make a second Black Gate set. Maybe finally really a battle pack set with enough good black bricks for the second tower. AND maybe with a second instruction for a black wall! Damn, LEGO that would become innovative! Are you able to become innovative? Innovative for a license theme? That would be an extension set what we could buy several times. :distressed:

-->LEGO, with only that one battle pack set we could buy and build the second required tower and could buy and build additional two walls. We could one wall attach to the left tower and one wall attach to the right tower. -> We would buy that one set three times in order to receive a worthy black gate in a worthy LEGO style!

...damn, if you could just become innovative for license themes... What for possibilities! You could for example create Minas Tirith with only 4-6 creator sets and when the people would just seeing your complete artwork (assembled with circa 40-50 LEGO sets). Damn, they would save their money for years.... and the kiddies? They would crying and laughing at the same time. The kiddies would get wishes which will get caught for always in their memories. They would become branded forever.

LEGO, I think you could really push your managers for better license contracts with better opportunities.

Someone guessed $60, but with that piece count and a new mold for an eagle, I would expect the price to be over $70 unfortunately. With what I see, I wouldn't want to ever spend that much so I'd wait for a huge sale (if it ever came), but the figures in the corner look nice. I guess I'll wait and see the final product, but with a clearer prelim picture it is a bit disappointing. They must be adding something to it. It looks much too small to have over 600 pieces.

I'm pretty sure that will be a preliminary mould for the eagle. I suspect it wil have proper claws to be able to pick up minifigures.

And the fact that Gandalf has his staff here in this set means nothing. That happens all the time in licensed sets: mixed up weapons and tiny anachronisms.

It looks good. I do think it could have had just one Gondor Soldier though. Just one... But perhaps this does point to some more Gondor-Centric sets in the future. LEGO does like taking opportunities to put in important minifigures (take the "The Black Pearl" set from POTC - they chose a scene which allowed them to put in some important Flying Dutchman crew, including the Big Bad himself, Davy Jones, even though they didn't quite fit in the set, and it was an odd scene to choose for such an iconcic ship in the first place, not being particularly action-orientated. The point is that they put him there anyway because the theme was ending, and there were no plans for a more appropriate set for him to appear in), so if they haven't included obvious Minifigure choices, my theory is because it means they have plans...

The fact that Saruman was not included in "The Orc Forge", even though he would have fit in very nicely, and when there was a preliminary fifth figure, supports this theory I believe. Not included earlier on, because they had plans for him later... in the form of "Wizard Battle" and an Exclusive "Tower of Orthanc"...

I think part of the reason we don't get two towers is that it would be a pretty repetitive build... besides, it means people might buy two...

I hate the fact that in the epic sets (from the good side) they only include heroes, just see Helm's deep set,and this one.... Why no Gondorian soldiers, this was the only chance to get them in this wawe, why we don't get them?? megabluck, now I need to wait more to make Battle at the Black Gate stop-motion,only because Gondorian soldiers -.-''

I marked on this picture everything we don't get in this set,I would understand if we get tower from other side of the Gates, but we didn't even get this??

And this sould be great opportunity for battle pack like just minifigs,it will be sell really nice, kids would definitells buy it,and it will be great opportunity for building armies.I would include in that battle pack:

-Gondorian soldier with shield and sword

-Rohan guardian

-Roirrim soldier with different printings from Uruk-hai army set

-2x Mordor orcs(with different printings,helmets and weapons)

here is picture I marked things

Everything we don't get in set

They could atleast have printed the orc armor piece, they are gonna end up looking way too much like Uruk hai and possibly Gondorians...

I think the doorknobs are pretty bad but that could change in the final set.

I wouldn't think the mold of the eagle would change, im not sure how you'd give it claws while still making it capable of connecting to studs.

The mouth of sauron is an awesome figure and its really cool of lego to make it, but I would much rather have gotten a new printed orc with a new helmet mold that could be reused across sets than him.

I would like to make Mordor orc like this, but they didn't :/

I think you guys are putting too much faith in the prelim. I have little doubt the orcs are going to look a lot better than they do now.

We're looking in the box on the bottom left, where every figure looks just about finalized, unfortunately.

Ha, that makes the set pale in comparison. While we might not need the two large towers at the front, I would've liked the wall sections on either side (the two sharp bits jutting out of the rock that are higher than the small towers).

Actually, that explains why it looks strange to me. Without those, it loses the whole shape.

As I thought, the Eagle is rather small despite how big they're supposed to be. Seeing as the feet are the same area as a 2x2 plate, which is 1.5 cm, I'm estimating the Eagle to be 11 cm. Compare that to the current horse mould, which is about 7 cm from tail to head.

It's sad that it doesn't have claws to pick up minifigures with, but oh well, that's what Blu-Tack is for.

Guys,I saw Aragorn's cape in down left cornes, from outside it is black and inside is red, like in the movie, but can LEGO make it? Or they will put just one colour or 2x capes, one black for outside and one red from inside?

And I really like that the include to Aragorn black body printings, not blue like in the video game

And yea,I think that we will get 2x different Mordor orcs, because there is no just one drawed and there wrotes x2,they drawed 2 of them,so it means that they will be probably different

Well, it's entirely possible to make it one cape. General Grievous' cape from 2005 was grey on the outside with black-printing, and maroon on the inside.

1. Lego is perfectly capable of making capes 2 colors, most recent example I can think of is Zurg.

2. Aragorn should be dark blue, as he is in the movie.

3. just because there are 2 mordor orcs listend and shown on the pakcage doese not mean theres 2 unique at all. Mineds of moria and uruk hair army both shows 2 figures that are exactly the same.

I choose to focus on what we are getting which is a cool playable set that is recognisable what it portrays.... We get Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron, Aragorn in Gondor printing and 2 armoured orcs plus a cool looking gate tower. I swear if Lego produced a gazzilion peice minifig scale black gate most of the people here would be like (homer simpson voice) "yeah it's cool and everything but too expensive, I think I'll just bricklink the figures"......

As an AFOL who's loved Lego for 20 years+ I just want to give the Lego group a massive hug for producing LoTR in the first place instead of whinging about how they didn't include old Gloin in the council of Elrond :hmpf:

(end of old man rant)

Very much looking forward to this second wave of LOTR sets. All the sets look/sound great. As i have a few more of the LOTR sets from the first wave to still get and two more of the Hobbit sets then it shouldn't be all that bad waiting till June (or whenever they are released in Australia). Oh and is it just these four sets and Orthanc or is their the potability of a few more? , because it seems like a pretty small wave to me.

Thoughts on the black gate the set it's self looks great and the size works well, would of liked a second tower on the left side but oh well i can't complain. Great figures look great glad to see Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron, Aragorn (in the new print) and the armored Orc's look great very happy with them. Would of liked to see a solider of Gondor but i am sure we will see one in a set to come TLG would be mad to not make them oh and a horse for either Gandalf or Aragorn would of been nice. Now the Eagle is not great but it is a prelim so i am sure it will have better legs with claws really anything would be nicer than what it has in the picture. Other than those few little things great great set a must buy.

There's still the small possibility of there being one more set as an exclusive to a store like Toys R Us. If I recall correctly we didn't hear about Spider-Man/Doc Ock, Pre Vizsla's Fighter or Palpatine's Arrest until the middle of last year.

2. Aragorn should be dark blue, as he is in the movie.

His outfit appeared as something closer to black multiple times, however. Black seems like a better overall color as well,

but it might not even be the finished version that's shown in the 'figure box'. Last year, Lurtz was depicted as being armored on the figure box of Orc Forge, along with a new hairpiece...

I'm afraid the Eagle won't get any better in the end, this is probably it.

- Undersized, legs glued together...

Why didn't they just give us an armored mountain troll?

They are not final versions of figures in the set.

Hmm, the eagle's wings look nice, the rest seems very preliminary. I do not believe it will stay that way, this would be way below all animals released in the last months (dinos, bear, new horse). They were all good, no way they will mess up the eagle.
