Back to the minifigs in Orthnac, here are my thoughts:

Orcs x2. More Mordor Orcs, likely

with new armor, like in the game.

Wormtungue. Odds of him being in this set are high, since

there won't be a real good chance of getting him agin.

Suramun the white. For continuities sake I think lego well

include another Suramon so those who don't have the ten dollar

set can still have him in his tower.

As much as we would all like to see Treebeard, I don't see it happening. Having a large

Brick-built figure in a 100 some odd dollar is not practical.

Maybe another eagle, maybe some more Uruk-Hai, Im not sure.

Remember, PotC had a D2C set that never saw the light of day.

Which set are you referring to? I don't recall any solid confirmation of a PotC D2C set, or even any serious rumors beyond a hope for a Flying Dutchman set. Orthanc seems like a much stronger possibility, however, since we already have a set number and confirmation from several insiders.

Yes. Flying Dutchman. It was definitely designed, but never produced according to my very legit sources. But once again, that example is exactly why until it is announced, we should just let it go.

Why the heck is everyone freaking out that the Orthnac set will not be made? I bet it's just going to be an October set, like the Haunted House. We got the info on the set a bit early.

I hope Grima Wormtongue comes in an Edoras set with a cursed Theoden figure and Eowyn. That would be awesome.

That could be possible if we ever get a Meduseld set.

Huh. If it were me, I'd officially announce Orthnac at Comic-Con. (Convention full of geeks. What better place? ) Assuming it's still 'green lit', I imagine it will be a late summer/fall release. I'm not sure it would negatively affect sales of the second LOTR wave, but it certainly would do nicely with the upcoming Hobbit part 2 fanfare in the fall...

I'm not surprised, nor was I expecting any sort of announcement this week.

Comic-Con would be the best place to announce Orthanc. It's where the showed the Rancor Pit and Bag End, and those aren't even exclusive sets.

As for figure selection, I don't think LEGO has tone constrained by one film. Saruman will obviously be included. Grima is a strong contender, since I feel that a Meduseld set may not happen. Orcs will likely be included, but I have no idea how many, and they likely won't be new in any way. Either version of Gandalf is a possibility. I would love to get an Armoured Lurtz, maybe with a new hairpiece. Other than that, I can't think of anyone in particular that I would desperately want to see in the set. This will be one of the rare LOTR sets that I'm gonna buy because of the set itself. Usually the figs are the main draw for me, but if Orthanc is being handled in a UCS style, it will be plain gorgeous, a piece of art.

People wanting a new hairpiece for lurtz i say that will never happen. But I'd say Thorins hair works very well for him, not perfectly but better than the Dumbledore hair. Atleast for the armored version.

I was going to say I've never seen Frodo's cooking corner around here (I'm in Nebraska). So while yes it is available in a polybag form and you can get Gandalf elsewhere, I'm glad I picked up the Gandalf Arrives set because I otherwise would not have that version of Frodo. It is very spot-on compared to the source material. As far as ordering a $5 polybag from TRU plus shipping, doesn't make a lot of sense. And it actually can't be shipped according to that page, only pick up in store (which was never carried around me).

Actually our TRU did carry them, they were free with a certain dollar amount purchase, it's how I got mine. Being free they probably weren't around very long.

Dudes, SW gets a UCS reveal this time every year. Released in time for May the 4th. Orthanc will come... sometime... (hopefully not until I can afford it)

Maybe in time for world Hobbit day??

I'd say the best possible piece for Lurtz would definately be Qui-Gon's in black. THough that'll probably never happen...

Also, on the subject of 'best set ever', I'd say that currently it would be the Mirkwood Spiders. The price is perfect, it has all- exclusive figures (Even Legolas), both my favourite dwarves (Or dwarfs? I forget), two BRICK-BUILT monsters and parts in rare colours (Namely dark red). But, when the Corsair ship comes out my opinion will likely change. I expected there never to be a pirate ship, though I really wanted one, and now we get one twice the size of my expections! The only downside is the fact that we only get one Corsair, which is a little odd, and perhaps seen before (Cough Helm's Deep Rohirrim cough).

I find that very sad too. why only one? It would be very easy to do, even if they reused torsos from other themes :/

Probably cause of the movies again; more screen time for the Army of the Dead vs. Corsairs, therefore more Dead than Corsairs. :/

Do you think those ghostly soldiers + king of the dead are glow in the dark, like the ghosts and vampires from the Monsters Fighters theme?

I reckon that their bone prints on their torso could be GITD (I could be wrong though)

Nothing odd here, the scene is clearly the arrival at Harlond, the harbour of Minas Tirith, that's why there are orcs and some of their siege weaponry. Lego-Peter Jackson is just icing on the cake; if the corsairs were to be represented it surely would have been the captain, not some fat crewman who did nothing but getting shot ;)

Actually, the set grows on me the more I see of it. It may become my first Lego ship ever... I also could imagine it easily rebuild for some Free Cities galley from asoiaf, should Dany go west.

+1 this!

In the film, the Corsairs are barely shown as the focus is placed on Aragorn+friends and the Dead of Dunharrow. Even in the books there isn't that much time given over to the Corsairs of Umbar. (I mean, Prince Imrahil and the Swan Host of Dol Amroth get more page time in the books and PJ left them right out of the films!)

Besides, it's the Pete Jackson cameo minifig!!!

...and as an aside, Dany won't be getting back home until book 7.

Right, I get that Lego is probably trying to cover as many smaller scenes as possible with this set. The fact we get orcs, undead, AND a Corsair should be proof to that. The thing is though, the set doesn't even include any docks or harbor and the orcs are the exact same printing we already have in 3 other sets despite in the movie their armor looking NOTHING like they do in the set. Also, we probably won't EVER see another set where Lego can include Corsairs, unless it's a battle pack, so why not include at least 2-3 Corsair while you can instead of even more orcs we already have gotten plenty of (and no doubt will get plenty more of).

It just seems like Lego was confused which direction they wanted to go. If it's on the Corsairs (like the brick built center piece would lead us to belieave - a Corsair ship) why not include more Corsairs? If on the harbor why not some docks or something and some orcs that actually resemble their movie counterparts? Heck, Lego could of even removed Gimli (like I suggested before since he is in so many sets already) and added another Corsair or two. I bet the set would of been an even bigger hit than.
