Maxim I Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Also, the dragon from the baddies has got to be the worse heraldry in Lego history ever. I start liking this new dragon heraldry. Red & Black were always my favourite colours and I love the metalic edges of the shield :) I still am not sure about the design of the dragon head on the heraldry (like I said earlier, for me, it looks like a prehistoric Squirel (see Ice Age)) In my opinion, this shield is way much better than those 2: - Troll shields - Skull shields btw, someone wined that the frightened knights were the last new type of heraldry, I think he forgot these ;) Quote

And man, the Troll shields are my favorite >:D Quote
Faefrost Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 looking at the figs up close, I don't hate the new heraldry. In fact the blue lion knights actually look pretty good. I don't think the dragon knights are overly fantasy ish evil or vampires. It looks like more they made an attempt to make the faces look a bit evil unkempt and mangy. Closer to what they did with Kingdoms Green Dragons. Unshaven, missing teeth, scars and scowls. Quote
Artifex Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 The crown in the belt is not that bad. It's the big crown in the chest and the j.u.n.i.o.r.i.z.e.d. lion face that bothers me. So below Kingdoms. Anyway, I'm done bashing this theme. Quote
Eleven Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I love the dragon armor printing. Just so armor-y (yes, unintended horrible pun). And the Evil Mage looks so much much better than the silly 2007 one. The Sensei Wu beard in black helps that a lot (as it doesn´t break up the colors as much as the grey old type of beard I think the last one had), but the color arrangement really helps the most. I completely agree. The dragon faction armor with red sleeves reminds me somewhat of the Fright Knights' soldiers (which was always one of my favorite castle subthemes). Seeing these figures up close makes me like them even more! Quote
Ardelon Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I imagine that style of helmet was discontinued very deliberately. From my experience the chin strap on that helmet broke fairly easily, much like on the old-school space helmets. And the fact that that helmet has not been used for a decade is quite telling. Hmm, is the chinstrap really any different from the one on the wide-brimmed kettle helmet still in production (even in this very theme)? Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 After seeing the figs in detail I have to say... The evil ones are worse than the bull knights... But the good guys look ok! :D I will definitely buy at least the smallest set. Quote
Eleven Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I love Warm Gold (pearl gold). It's so much more vibrant in color than Lacquered Gold (metallic gold), and yet more subdued in luster than either that or Metalized Gold (chrome gold). The color also never wears away no matter how the parts are treated (the other gold colors, which rely on surface treatments, can become scratched if not handled carefully). In general I feel like Metalized and Lacquered Gold should be used sparingly to preserve their visual impact, but I have no such insistence when it comes to Warm Gold or other "pearl" colors. With that said, certain parts don't work in Warm Gold. PotC demonstrated this when there wasn't enough of the Metalized Gold surface treatment to produce the sets in time for release, so the first production runs used Warm Gold instead. The coins and gold ingots were quite clearly designed to appear with a surface treatment, so without one the raw plastic pieces displayed obvious and obtrusive molding marks. Naturally if the horse armor is designed to be used in Warm Gold in the very first wave, that means it shouldn't have this problem, which is good. Well said! I have the same feelings about Warm/Pearl Gold: It works for some pieces, but not for others. Although the horse armor uses it (which I really like the design of, by the way) It looks like the king's crown is using a different material. I'm guessing it is Metallic Gold, because it is more shiny than Warm/Pearl Gold, but not as shiny as Chrome Gold. This will be a new color for the crown that we haven't previously had. Quote
kermit Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 (edited) Although not castle related I see that in one of the new Friends small set that we get a deer. This would go well with this new castle theme. Edited February 4, 2013 by kermit Quote
Haltiamieli Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Hmm, is the chinstrap really any different from the one on the wide-brimmed kettle helmet still in production (even in this very theme)? Yes, the chin strap of the bullet helm is considerably thinner. Quote
TeufelHund Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Hmmm...after looking at the larger pics/video I will probably pick up the Gatehouse (I actually don't mind the dark knight's armour and barding and on closer inspection it seems this set comes with both) and the Dragon Mountain (Dragon, Wizard, useful non-military princess figure) sets. I'm struggling to like the castle and already have 2 Blue Crownie Kings so there's not much that appeals to me in the larger set. I may get one of the smaller sets depending on the torso mixes on the figures. The Lion motif on the good guy's shields, flags and barding though remain an abmomination. Thanks god it seems the actual torsos are free of this blight. Quote
CM4Sci Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Found a vid showing the minifigs: -Sci Quote
Kintobor Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 The Crown/ Lion knights look very nice, despite me liking the old ones just a little more. The Dragon knights though... I don't know, maybe the bright red contrarsts too much with the black. I really like some of the figures individual elements, but I personally will hold judgement on the dragon knights until one is in my hand. Quote
Teh Stud Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 The wizard's beard looks awesome. Still hate the cartoony lion. Dragon heraldry is ok. I'll use it, but not my favorite. Quote
Lord LOLrus Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Wow. I am loving these figs. The dragon emblem could use some (or a lot) of improvement, but the overall design is great. I'm rather wondering whether, if I replaced the shields, I could use the Lions as elite Crownies; I think the answer is probably yes - we'll see. Either way, I'm probably getting all but the Castle (hopefully). Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 We have box art for the rest of the sets of the theme in the above link. I must say that the Dragon Mountain box art looks ominous and amazing. The others look really bright and the actual sets look out of place on such a bright background. There are also other Castle set pictures in that photostream if you look through it. Quote
Maxim I Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Like I already said, I gonna buy tons of those smaller sets! Does anyone knows what the price will be for them? Quote
andhe Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Like I already said, I gonna buy tons of those smaller sets! Does anyone knows what the price will be for them? I think we read the 7.99 price point, which would be amazing, so makes me doubtful! Quote
Kai NRG Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 That gatehouse looks nice, not as is, but I like the pieces and a black helm ! Always need more 1x2 brown tiles too... The small one also has some nice pieces, so, all things considered, I think those will be the two I end up with... though I could use a dragon, but that one looks to large-piece-ish, besides coming in such a pricey set... I think you may be stretching the term a wee bit. Personally, I see nothing wrong with the new Lion emblem; if anything, it feels MORE Lego-ish than the one on the previous royal knight shield. I also feel that its simplified appearance makes it more similar to actual heraldry. Quote
Wardancer Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Although not castle related I see that in one of the new Friends small set that we get a deer. This would go well with this new castle theme. http://www.flickr.co...nal/8440607324/ Uhm, are we sure this doggylike thing is a deer? Too cute for castle IMHO. Quote
Infernum Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Whoah! That smallest set looks great! The second to smallest set looks great too! Quote
mpoh98 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Those minifigs look nice, but I would like to see some more dark green ones. Quote
Kliq Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I am loving the better pictures. The small set is going to be a truly amazing army builder. My only complaint is that I really do not like that flail weapon, but I have plenty of spare weapons for them. :] I reaaaaaally want to know why there seem to be connection points on the sides of the gatehouse. Lego has done that before with other castle sets and they didn't connect to anything. I hope this is not another one of those teasers. :[ Quote

Then maybe the gatehouse can connect to one of the Castle sides. Quote
