CM4Sci Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 Saw a half-dozen Dragon Mountain sets at my local TRU today... Prob go back in the next few days to pick one up. TRU price was $54.99... Would rather a few more figs but otherwise looks very enticing... Retail price is $49.99, so not a bad mark-up. -Sci Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Retail price is $49.99, so not a bad mark-up. -Sci Yep, I thought so too. Wasn't financially prepared for it-- actually went there looking for the Gatehouse Raid, but for whatever reason my TRU hasn't had it or the Gold Getaway set as of yet. Strange, but I'm delighted to see the dragon will soon be mine. MWUHAHAHAHA!!! Quote
Echo Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I'm not going to post a full review of the castle, but I will say that I quite like it. I am having difficulty displaying it though because the Dragon knights have no siege engines. The catapult from the Gatehouse Raid is laughable and the battering ram/catapult hybrid from the castle is only slightly better. I would have preferred a large siege tower to the very underwhelming looking Dragon Mountain. At least the Dragon dudes would be able to mount something of decent assault then. Quote
shaggysanchez Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I picked up the 12.99 (70400) and 19.99 (70401) sets tonight at my local lego store was surprised to see them on the shelves already. I had mixed feelings about the new line after looking at the pics but after building the two smallest sets I have to say I was quite impressed. I look forward to getting the rest of the wave now after building these first two. Could they improve the sets here and there sure but I am pretty sure that I can find faults with just about any theme if I try. I think this Castle theme is geared more towards the kids and in my experience that is true as my two kids loved them. Quote
CM4Sci Posted May 21, 2013 Author Posted May 21, 2013 Website is up, or a teaser, that is: http://www.lego.com/en-us/castle/?icmp=COUSFR33Castle -Sci Quote

Well, personally, I prefer things as they are. One of the most appealing parts of the LEGO Castle theme for me has always been its architecture, and a problem that often afflicts the action themes I love is a terrible lack of architectural features. The 2012 Ninjago lineup was a good example: besides small edifices like shrines and a bizarre open-air blacksmith shop that came with Lasha's Bite Cycle, the only major structure that year was a two-tier prison tower. It was still nice but hardly as spectacular as some of the exciting settings explored in the television series and certainly not as exciting as the previous year's Fire Temple. Now, I think the Dragon Mountain is pretty feeble as a headquarters for the dragon knights, but nevertheless I appreciate that the King's Castle and the Gatehouse Raid aren't the only architectural landmarks in the theme, and I appreciate there being at least one set to define the visual language of the dragon knights' homeland. Some larger siege engines would be great for a future wave, and I agree it would be nice if not every siege engine this year was a catapult or ballista, but I think sacrificing the actual castles that define the theme for larger siege engines would do more harm than good. Lordofdragonss Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 As I see they used Dragon-catapult.. maybe it's time for new version of Dragon breathing fortress? :D Quote
Infernum Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 That's a super cool teaser on the Lego site! Cool game! Quote
Faefrost Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 They were all on the shelf at the Lego store today, so if they aren't up on S@H now they should be soon. Quote
just2good Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 They were all on the shelf at the Lego store today, so if they aren't up on S@H now they should be soon. Yep, my LEGO Store has 'em. I might get Dragon Mountain to get the Iron Man polybag. But, June 1st will be THE day for LEGO Store shopping. Quote
Infernum Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 But, June 1st will be THE day for LEGO Store shopping. What's going on? I know about the Jor-el polybag promotion. Any other offers? Thanks in advance! Quote
just2good Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 What's going on? I know about the Jor-el polybag promotion. Any other offers? Thanks in advance! Not too veer of topic, but it's the release day for City, LOTR, Creator and hopefully Chima Speedorz, and Friends. But yeah, Castle is good for the Iron Man polybag at the LEGO Store. Quote
gedren_y Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 The US version of the site still has the Kingdoms Joust and Chess Set at their normal pricing. It is likely that those will go on sale to clear away stock before we see the new Castle line. If that happens, my money for the new Castle line may be eaten up by remaining Kingdoms Joust. Quote

bekindsorewind Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Is the Dragon Mountain showing up at TRU yet or is it at the moment only at LEGO stores? Quote
PenPlays Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Local Lego Store has all six sets! They look simply devine. I however do not have the funds to purchase any at the moment . Quote
Faefrost Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Is the Dragon Mountain showing up at TRU yet or is it at the moment only at LEGO stores? My TRU had them on the shelf this afternoon. Quote
just2good Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 My TRU had them on the shelf this afternoon. Same here, along with the small LOTR sets. I guess they all came in the same shipment. Quote
8BrickMario Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 (edited) Dragon Mt. and Gold Getaway are the only Castle sets I'll be getting, and when I do, the carriage from GG is going to the wizard. Speaking of the wizard, does anyone else view him as sort of a contemporary counterpart too Willa/Hubble Bubble, the Fright Knights witch? There are a few similarities. Both wear black and red, have dragons, and have an area of gold printing (cape clasp on witch, potion bottle on wizard) with spiders on them. Willa the Witch and Wilbur the Wizard, perhaps? I don't see Dragon Mountain as the Dragon Knights' headquarters. LEGO would do better. To me, it's Wilbur's home, where he has a few knights in his service. No one said the Wizard was the leader of the Dragon Knights. Maybe if there's a second wave, we'll see a Dragon Castle, with the unknown supreme leader of the DKs! Artanis I Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Well, this wouldn't be the 1st time TLG has made the leader of the "bad guys" a wizard. 1993, 2007, 2010 & now 2013. Then there's Saruman, but that one was Tolkien's idea. Actually this would be the 3rd time the wizard also has a dragon. (Unless you count the gargoyle/statuette as a real baby dragon, then it's every time.) Quote
8BrickMario Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I concede on the wizard leadership, but I don't think it's that way this time. The somewhat lackluster ruin looks like the home of a baddie, but not cool enough or big enough to be an HQ. This Wizard doesn't look as evil to me as the 2007 Evil Wizard, or the Kingdoms wizard, anyway. Hopefully they're breaking the trend. Lego.com will tell in time. Quote
dgherko Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I keep hoping for new leadership for the "baddies" the off colored crown in the LoTR Corsair set on the undead king gives me hope for a unique king of the dragons - if so we will no doubt get a quality looking figure. Like many hollywood actors say being a bad guy is more fun, they look better too dgh Quote
Fives Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I must say, I really love all the figures this theme has to offer. I wish I could buy all the figs and forget about the sets. These two factions would be awesome as supplementary forces for past evil and good teams. Quote
Shroffy123 Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I am suprised these sets aren't showing up in the NW. I remember we got the hobbit sets earlier than most last year Quote
