Faefrost Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) I find it weird to have a cavalry set without horses.... Go look at the title again. It isn't "Cavalry" it's "Castle Calvary" so Calvary is probably the name of the Castle. (Actually kind of shocking that Lego would use that name for a set these days, given their current stated aversion to religious subject matter?) "Calvary" has been a fairly comon name for Churches, Chappels and Castle over the course of modern history in the Christian / Western world. It is the hill outside Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. (and apparently loosely translates to "Hill of the Skull", isn't history full of such fun morbid facts?). So Calvary seems sort of an odd choice for a transforming Pod Racer shaped attack plane? ("Bring forth the Holy Hand Grenade"?) Edited November 6, 2013 by Faefrost Quote
Aanchir Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Do we even have the name "Castle Cavalry" from any official, English-language sources? Brickset lists that and several of the other set names in brackets, which is their policy for preliminary, unconfirmed, or translated set names. The URL for the teaser image on the LEGO Movie website calls it a "flying fortress", though of course those URLs are not 100% consistent with the final product names. The original set name that we got the name "Castle Cavalry" was "Kasteelcavalerie" on a Dutch website. Google Translate doesn't give me any alternate translations besides "Castle Cavalry", but maybe there's some kind of wordplay I'm not picking up on? Or maybe its Dutch name is just terribly non-indicative. Who knows? Note that other set names from that same site, such as "Fool Palace" for 70803, are not the correct English set names (that set ended up being the slightly more poetic "Cloud Cuckoo Palace"). gedren_y Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Here's what I have to say on the issue of 'Cavalry': In the US, the army tank divisions began as armored cavalry. If my interpretation of what I am seeing is correct, this is a Castle themed hover-tank. To me this English translation makes sense. Quote

I suppose we'll see when the set is actually revealed officially. It looks like an ok parts pack, but it seems a bit thrown together. Even though the others are in a similar thrown together state, they seem more coherent. This looks like someone took the kings castle and built an alternate model. I suppose that's kinda the idea though. I look forward to seeing the tower mode. Quote
Dr Leg O Brick Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Just started to get into the new Castle stuff and I've got to say, why so serious about them? I love them, the blue guys are much easier on the eyes than the red and silver lion Knights, most of the sets have benefited from the last few years of new parts, we've finally got a 4 knight battle pack, the blue knights have the crownies insignia on there chests, the evil sorcerer is much more "evil" than the fantasy era one, the designs on the Minifigs are overall very good and that's just for starters. IMHO, and I know people will disagree with this, but I think the overall brilliantness and Historical Accuracy of Kingdoms and the detail in LOTR have somewhat spoilt my perception of the castle stuff, but as I missed Kingdoms I've been eager to get new stuff. However, they haven't really sold that well in my country or have been marketed well in England, and as a result the prices have rocketed down. I just got 70403 for £20.00, so to those looking to get them Amazon seems the best place. As for it continuing, IMHO, it hasn't got a chance... Quote
Deathleech Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I actually like the Castle Cavalry set (and all the LEGO Movie sets for that matter). I hear a lot of people criticizing that they look like they were built by 5 year olds, but personally I don't see it. What I see are intentionally goofy sets based on what appears to be an extremely goofy movie. I mean a movie about LEGO, with pretty much all LEGO themes, from different eras, and even superheroes in like Batman in it? What are you expecting, extremely serious sets or more City stuff? Sure some sets do seem a little slapped together like the western Escape Glider, but others seem to have really solid builds like the cop stuff. My biggest problem with the line is just the over abundance of black robots they use. I don't find their builds particularly interesting and they appear in almost half the LEGO Movie sets. LEGO probably could of done with a few less flying builds too, but all well. As a bonus LEGO did make a number of the vehicles have alternate builds so they CAN be used with existing sets from different themes. They also seem to offer some fairly unique things (dump truck, ice cream truck, plumber van, etc.). This is something I would LOVE for Lego to do in more sets as it just fits the toy line so well. LEGO could easily offer a few extra pieces for alternate builds or hair/head/torso options for figures which would increase the appeal of sets ten fold. Quote
pup Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I love them, the blue guys are much easier on the eyes than the red and silver lion Knights, It's interesting how different factions/color schemes appeal to different eyes. I absolutely love the red/silver Kingdoms Lion Knights and green/gold Kingdoms Dragon Knights. For me, they're both brilliant factions. The blue Fantasy Era Crownies and blue Lion/Crown guys aren't as appealing to me. I'm not a fan of the crown motif. But -- that's the beauty of Lego -- next time, there'll be something new! Who knows -- maybe wolves or eagles or tigers or owls? (Probably not -- but there's always a chance...) I do wish this latest Dragon crew were dark red/black instead of red/black, though. My nephews are a little confused as to why the old good guys and new bad guys have the same primary color. I ended up changing out all their red bits for black or grey/bley. Quote
Dr Leg O Brick Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I'm kind of biased as blue is favourite colour and I only have 5 Lion knights, it's not that I don't think their good, its just that for me a more blue/red colour scheme (i.e. the Original Lion knights/Crusaders) is much more easier than the full on "in your face" red the Kingdoms Knights use. Now the Dragon knights are a different story, green is my second favourite colour and Emerald green even more, and the brown/black/gold compliment each other nicely. And I do agree about the Dragon guys, dark red or a different colour all together would have been better, I don't mind but younger kids do get confused easy, especially when in some places Kingdoms (I think) are still being sold next to these. Kliq Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 l am still waiting for one of our LEGO "spies" who always seem to have the latest news to pop in with 2014 Castle set names, descriptions, etc. It was right around this time last year that we began to hear rumblings. At the moment it looks like I will be buying up the Disney Princess castle-ish (castle-like?) sets and swapping the figures to hold me over for the time being. Before you judge me, have you seen the Disney Princess sets? The castle, tower, and lakeside building each have nice interiors. :] Quote
The_Cook Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Before you judge me, have you seen the Disney Princess sets? The castle, tower, and lakeside building each have nice interiors. :] I quite agree with you. The sets designed for "girls" are designed as Dolls houses which means functional interiors which is something AFOLs tend to want. I'm certainly very tempted by the Disney Princess line and may well pick some up just to see. Quote
Captain Settle Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Before you judge me, have you seen the Disney Princess sets? The castle, tower, and lakeside building each have nice interiors. :] But the cashiers are always so judging when you buy them. Why must they be so judging! Quote
Hive Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I'm not sure I have seen the same Disney Princess sets as the rest of you, because the ones I have seen are full of huge, unusable parts, pink colours and weird-looking animals. There's hardly anything in those sets I find valuable for castle building. Quote

There's hardly anything in those sets I find valuable for castle building. Nah, there are some interesting parts and colors mixed in with those if you look at them less as sets and more as parts packs. Not so much actual wall stuff as there seems to be a lot of panels and quarter cylanders (granted in tan which is useful as something other than grey). But things like the gold gates in the Ariel set. The carriage wheels. Just some of the other accent pieces like those Beville type arches (I think thats what they are?) and all the gold railings. I also like the purple'ish blue roof on Rapunzel's tower. It's a nice accent color that could be used for a nice twisted classical wizards tower. Granted if you are making 15,000 piece super detailed Castle MOC's you might not find much here. But if you are looking to MOC something a little differnet along the lines of classic Castle or simply interior stuff these look like they can be a treasure trove. Quote
gedren_y Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Actually, there is more light blue and purple than there is pink in the new Friends style Disney Princesses line. They'll be parts buys for me too. There's also a new plant part that shows up there, in the 2014 Friends and 2014 Star Wars. The stickers appear to be transparent, so they could go on any color surface. There are a couple new detail pieces and printings on round tiles, as well as a return of that nice detailed arch piece. DC showed us in his Dark Isle MOCs that the pastel colors are usable for something other than overtly 'girly' builds. Quote

Infernum Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Where do I find that? Now DC, is Ultra Combo Cadarn. . He's talking about MOCs like this. Quote

Dr Leg O Brick Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 The description for the Castle set from the Lego Movie sets, from the Lego Movie products page. "Keep a look-out for Lord Business’ robots from the castle tower with the soldiers and knights. Get the crossbow ready and prepare the mobile catapult on the ground. If you see the Micro Manager trying to grab the civilians, use your creative skills to convert the castle into an armored Castle Cavalry. Take off and target the speedy, clawing menace with the crossbow, cannon, catapults and flame flick missiles. Includes 3 minifigures: the knight, Sir Stackabrick; the soldier, Gallant Guard; and Where Are My Pants? actress, Sharon Shoehorn." Aanchir Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 And here's the alternate build! https://fbcdn-photos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/s720x720/1469992_10151823121003403_1841700271_n.jpg Quote
Infernum Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Wow! That alternate build is a great! Any idea on the price? Looks like an insane parts pack. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 That alternate build makes the set a lot more attractive. Quote
Alfadas Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I didn't like this set, but after seeing the other build, I kinda like it! Quote
Dr Leg O Brick Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 That looks great! Love the architecture around the top, finally a bucket for ammunition, and finally they're using the "Brick-Bricks" for the crenulations, it really does add something. At last Lego seem to be listening, here's hoping for another wave! Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Just like the other build I like it. I hope it will be aroud 50-70 zlotys so I can buy a lot! Quote
