kabel Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 It's not very detailed, it's extremely child-like due to it's "junior" nature (even more so than the already way too childish 2013 castle line) and it doesn't seem to include any new or interesting bricks... Maybe that is because it's 4+ and not 24+? I'm sure my kids (4 and 7) are going to love it! Quote
Hive Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Maybe that is because it's 4+ and not 24+? I'm sure my kids (4 and 7) are going to love it! I'm not saying that a kid at 4 won't love it, I'm just curious as to what an AFOL finds so great about the set. With this being a site for AFOLs, I kinda expect us to judge the sets from our own perspective, and not from that of toddlers...? Quote
gedren_y Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I doubt the minifigures are any lower quality, given that Lego produced a Creator castle set during the Kingdoms run that used a full quality fig. For those of us that MOC with the current line of figures, this will be a major parts pack. Quote

What makes it a better deal than simply buying an extra Gatehouse set or similar? Quote
Ardelon Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 So I assume it's definitive we won't be getting any in-house Castle sets this year apart from the Creator set? Or is there still a chance we haven't see all the themes for this summer? Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) The small castle set is not that good I prefer the kings castle from the castle line. Edited January 26, 2014 by TheLazyChicken Quote

tacozftw Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) I wish we got factions that weren't necessarily good or evil. It'd be cool to have black falcons, lion knights, dragon knights, forestmen with the deer/elk insignia, or the wolfpack group. and the dragon knights wouldn't look super duper angry like they do in the current castle line. they'd be more like those of the 90s Edited January 27, 2014 by tacozftw Quote
Ridge Montante Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I don't mind if we get other factions. Though that would be great. I just hope we see more castle sets this year. Quote
TeufelHund Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I've been wondering this too... have we seen the entire range of 2014 sets by now, or might there still be some surprises? I think we've seen pretty much all the regular sets, although it may well be that there might be a castley UCS/D2C set announced at some stage this year (perhaps for the Hobbit line rather than regular Castle) Quote
Mr. President Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 @Hive: The idea was to suggest to you that maybe there's more to being an AFOL than posting about how every new set is "<insert that tiresome argument> garbage". Quote

Why should I not give my honest opinion? I know that some people seem to feel that being an AFOL means blindly praising anything that LEGO throws at us, but I give credit where it's due. I praise plenty of sets, even from themes I don't collect myself - if they're good in some way or the other. If only positive comments where desired when discussing new sets, it would be a pretty boring and meaningless "discussion". Quote

Plus I acknoweldge to be seen as "harsh" often, as I am used to tell what I think and if a MOC isn't beautiful and I am asked a critic, I will say that I do not like it. I may say something like "well, someone may like it but that's not me". I have left a deviantart group about Lego in a polite way, just telling that I was seeing too much ugly stuff. People posted whatever 3-4 pieces attached together and demanded people to stare in awe their MOCs. Seems like people is just scaling MOCs or sets from Good to Excellent. In my humble opinion, TLC has decreased both quality of sets and of plastic. But since they are top seller, probably they are right and I am wrong. Sorry for the long OT. Quote
SerenityInFire Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Where might I be able to find pictures of the new junior castle set? Quote
qiadris Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Haven't seen any post the images for the two new castle battle packs, images over at BrickOwl They are... well, battle packs, I personally prefer Forest Ambush. Quote
Ridge Montante Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) The battle packs are kinda nice. I would love to add more of both of these guys to my armies. I hope we get more castle this year. Even though they're not my favorite castle sets I still love them. Edited February 14, 2014 by Ridge Montante Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) I really don't like the fact that Lions have better pieces than dragons... CHROME GOLD vs Catapult that can be found in like every set? REALY? Edited February 14, 2014 by Lordofdragonss Quote
Kliq Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Several of each of these battlepacks would be welcomed additions to my collection. My only issue is...are these still being made of the cheaper plastic? I won't purchase many (if any) if they are still made of the inferior material. I have to keep my soldiers that came from previous battlepacks and chess sets separate from the rest because I don't want to get them mixed up. Their hands don't hold weapons well at all. Quote

This is something I don't understand especially when the minifigs are already made to a higher standard in other sets. I bought a bunch of the Pirates Minifig packs and I can't believe how terrible they're made. As you've experience Kliq their hands barely hold anything. Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Those battle packs look nice. I might get both of them. Quote

I bought a bunch of the Pirates Minifig packs and I can't believe how terrible they're made. As you've experience Kliq their hands barely hold anything. Actually... the materials are not inferior, terrible quality, cheaper etc. Battle packs (not the boxed type, but the blister pack type), CMFs and many polybags etc are from China. It is true that the stuff we get from China is different from that of Denmark, but it is not actually from the quality of plastic, but from the finish due to the molds used. There were Chinese laws preventing the importing of molds from what I gather, so they had to make their own? If not that, then something similar. Over time there has also been a process of trying to get the colours and opacity of the dye in the ABS to be consistent with that of the European made Lego. It was really noticeable in the earlier days but has improved. Compare Series 1 CMFs with more recent stuff. Regarding the hands, the main issue seems to be that the minifigs in the blister packs come with the accessories already in hand. If they didn't, they should work much better. In case you hadn't noticed, the hand clips stretch out and then compact back when you place an accessory or weapon in them, likewise when you remove one. Something to do with the pressure of being in the blister pack affects this hand clip function. The softness of the part surface is an added problem, due to the molds used. I think that the molds maybe aren't as microscopic-ly smooth? Blame the packaging for the most part, molds for the other. (BTW, Chinese Lego is waaay better quality than other Chinese made toys!) Lordofdragonss Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 SorryArtanis but you are wrong. Thhe clutch on hands is weak even on CM from Movie series and they have no accesories inserted. Just touch something they have in hand and *pop* it falls down. Also China-legs tend to break a lot from behind. All my knights from previous battlepacks and some figures from CM have cracks on back of their feet (From the ground to the first hole). Quote

Something to do with the pressure of being in the blister pack affects this hand clip function. That simply is not the case. The Kingdoms chess set did not come pre-assembled and the hands are some of the worst for holding things that I've experienced. Regardless of the quality of plastic, the hands are virtually unusable when coming from China. It seems the new battle packs will be from China, which means that dealing with the hands is going to be a miserable experience and unfortunately will limit the number I purchase. At least by picking up a few more 'Forest Ambush' sets I will know the hands will be of good quality. Quote
greenalfonzo Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) 2 Forest Ambush sets (8 figs, 2 dogs) for $24 is a better deal than 2 bps (1 of each, 8 figs) for $30. You get some different accessories in the bps, and the 2 knights with armor, but also poorer quality and none of the tree and wall bricks. Edited February 17, 2014 by greenalfonzo Quote
