Hello, I'm Murdoch17. I have been watching Euro Bricks for 6 months now, and finally signed up quite recentley. I used to have a Train Shed, (10027) a 10128 Train Crossing, High Speed Train, (set 4511) and a couple of trains cars (set 10158). Alas, I destroyed them for parts back in 2006. :cry_sad: Nowadays, I have an Emerald Night, (made in black) a custom black / red diesel engine, a Toy Story train, and 4 train coaches ordered from LEGO Digital Designer. I plan on ordering Diagon Alley as soon a possible, because it will be used with my Medieval Market Village to make a old fashioned town. I have already made 1 post here, and I hope to do more soon.

Hi, Im Sean. I've been browsing the forum for some time now and decided to sign up. I have been a fan of lego since my childhood in the mid 80's, after starting to properly get into lego I got very much into Technic, but that was because I didnt realise trains were even availiable. After a cleanout of house some years ago an exuberant family member sold all of my collection. So recently I have started collecting again and I am really into Trains, I have a few Lego City Items also as scenery but mostly just Trains.

So far I only have 7939 cargo train, which I love, despite the fact it goes too fast and derails itself frequently, the 7898 cargo train, and 10133 BNSF loco.

So I am very much into big cargo locomotives, and less into the passenger trains, however I am very much looking into the Emerald Nights as it is a beautiful looking train.

I'm also a computer geek at heart so I'm looking at a Mindstorms kit for some exciting train automation, would be nice to drive my train around with some traffic that just gets out of my way!

I'm also new to these forums. Lifelong railhead, recently back into LEGO. Nothing to show off, yet, but the Emerald Night is train set #1!

Here is a link to our local train yard.

Steve

I should swing by there sometime, next time I'm in Reno.

Okay, I suppose I'd better post in here as I've already posted a few times in the forum. I'd been away from Lego for over forty years when I started collecting Star Wars stormtroopers earlier this year to photograph them doing silly things. I then started looking for something more complex to build and found Brick Express's GWR 5101 Large Prairie. I bought the plans and built one (and another in red) and that was the start of a downward spiral into Lego train ownership. As a late starter, I'm using exclusively RC/PF tracks and power although I do have a couple of 9V motors powered from a PF IR receiver. Due to advanced age and senility, I have immense difficulty producing a MOC but MOD quite well. In fact, I'm not usually happy unless I've MODded something. I'll now start posting the odd MOD or two in the forum.....

You did those 'Stormtroopers day off' things? Those were hilarious.

I've added to the sequence and the last five frames are train-based. :classic:

They're here

My apologies Cinderbike and Snapshot - thought this was the start of a SW discussion. Those are pretty sweet; will have to look at these closer.

No problem. You've got a job to do and it could have been the start of a SW discussion.

Figured I should finally sign up after stalking the forums for the last six months or so.

US, 20 years old, college student in mechanical engineering, fanatical about anything to do with steam. I have a large collection (15+ engines, 60+ cars) of G scale model railroad equipment (including, yes, a Big Boy) and some N scale. Recently reobsessing in Lego after I realized I can build geared locomotives with my 9V stuff and still use the sideframes. I've got a fairly basic approach to building, specifically: making it look "right", the feel of it, is more important than the small details. Hence, I build big and I use a lot of pieces: my current projects are all 10-wide and narrow gauge.

Current roster includes an 0-4-4T (patterned after a Forney, though with the pivoting drive wheels it's more of a Meyer), a Climax, and a Plymouth diesel switcher.

Cars include a boxcar, refrigerator car, tanker, flatcar, working drop bottom dump car, and a D&RGW-patterned caboose.

Note the red ends on the yellow reefer--just like the real D&RGW (Rio Grande) narrow gauge ones (ok, they were brown, but who's going to argue?)

Good to be here!

Please add me as well.

I'm Rustie86, a longtime real train fan and Lego train fan from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I received my first Lego train set, the 4563 Load 'n Haul Railroad. That was followed by the tank car and caboose from the My Own Train series, and nothing else, really. I eventually entered my Dark Ages and went off to college.

During my years at Penn State, I came across the LDraw site and Peeron.com. Looking through the Lego train instructions there, I found a lot of sets that I had wanted to add to my train, plus a number of custom train creations on other sites. I started virtually designing/modifying, and later building, some original freight equipment of my own as well as 'improved' versions of some of the sets I'd missed out on. I started refining the 3225 Classic Train, then the 4544 Car Transport Wagon (With Car, no less) and moved on to a slew of original designs.

Just this past summer, I gave myself a birthday present in the form of the 7939 Cargo Train. Upon experimenting with the Power Functions system for the first time, I have to say I'm almost completely won over by it. I have only recently started planning a layout; a friend of mine that belongs to a railroad historical group nearby asked if I'd be interested in setting one up for the kids at the group's caboose ride events.

For an example of one of my builds:

The Locomotive from my MODded 3225

Others are located on my MOCPages page, such as my pride and joy, the 4-wheel tank car, and a few other random pieces.

Welcome Rustie. 3225 Classic Train was an Ebay purchase for me (MISB). It's always been one of my favorite trains, reminding me of early blue era trains I missed out on living in the US.

Hope you enjoy the forum and please share more of your trains with us.

Doing now.

Thanks K.

Hi I'm new and from the Gold Coast, Australia.

My passion for lego trains started when I was a kid and my cousin had the intercity passenger set. Over the years I grew out of lego but now into my late 20's my passion for Lego and Lego trains has been resparked!

I'm in the process of rebuilding all my lego sets from when I was a kid and I know I'm getting both the the lego PF train sets for Christmas and the train station as my starting point. I'm going to start working on a lego train layout in the new year but of course it will take time and $$!

Hope everyone is well and also Merry Christmas!

Dear TheBrickster,

When I was a kid I owned the 7722 Steam Cargo train set:

7722-1.jpg

My love for Lego trains restarted again in 2006 and 2007 with set 10173 Holiday train and the 10183 hobby train set.

I currently own one 7722 Steam Cargo train set, one 10173 Holliday train set, two 10183 hobby train sets, two 10194 Emerald Night sets, and one 7939 Cargo train. Further, I currently own the 7997 train station, the 7937 train station, one 7936 train level crossing, and several rail switches and track piece sets.

Last year I build my Terminus of the line railway MOC:

And last year I build my mini scale train locomotive MOC:

And this year I build a 1:45 minifigure scale BR01-1075 with PF motors:

I'm new to the LEGO Train World but am eager to be a part of the community. I recently acquired 10194 Emerald Night. Working on expansion. Plan on getting the Hogwarts Express since I love that style of trains. Hence the Emerald Night. I haven't got the time or the resources to be a very avid Train fan but is is defiantly on my priorities list of LEGO. Hope to enjoy the Train Community in the future!

Welcome Teddy and JCC. Teddy: I'm a big fan of your magnificent Town creations and your most recent locomotive is stunning!

JCC: The Emerald is my personal favorite - and that's coming from a fan of Classic Trains, esp. the 12V era (of which I don't own a single train). Welcome and I hope you both continue to enjoy our LEGO Train community. Happy New Year!

Hi there - I'm going to post a question in the Train Tech section, but having stuck to reading the posts there rather than making any of my own until now, I thought it might be polite to introduce myself to you train buffs first, and humbly ask to be included among the noble Train Tech members.

I never owned a Lego train set when I was little, although I was always intrigued by them. They were expensive and hard to find, so I only knew about them from the catalogues. Then, a couple of years ago I came out of my dark ages with a Café Corner, then a Market Street, then... well, you know the drill. It's all gone a bit crazy. I'm sure you recognise the story :)

Being very happy with the bigger Exclusive sets, I decided to go for the Emerald Night. It was my first train, and I liked it so much that I bought an extra wagon on eBay and then pieced together another one from BL. And then I discovered the My Own Train sets, the Super Chief, the BNSF... my wallet hurts just thinking about it.

Anyway, my train collection now contains:

- the aforementioned triple-wagon Emerald Night

- two Super Chiefs with 3x10022 and 2x10025

- a BNSF with 2x10170

- a small brown My Own Train steam engine, pulling four different-coloured versions of 10015 (green, blue, red, and black)

- a big dark grey My Own Train steam engine, pulling 10013, 10014, 10016, and 10017

- the green Brick Express GWR 5101, pulling three Blokbricks beverage wagons (red, green, and blue)

- a 10183 Hobby Train

- a 10173 Holiday Train

- and right before Christmas, I found the 7939 Cargo Train on sale. So now I've got my first motorised train as well. It moved for the first time this afternoon...

Add a used, but spotless 10027 Train Engine Shed, that I stumbled upon cheaply on eBay, a 10128 Train Level Crossing pieced together via BL, a 7997 Train Station, a 4514 Cargo Crane and a couple of other small train-related sets, and you get the idea.

I've never really been interested in trains as such, though, so in this case it's a matter of Lego interest leading to interest in trains. Therefore, I don't feel like MOC'ing trains. I have, however, used some custom instructions I have found here and there. So, I've added these to the collection:

- LGauge's EMD SD40-2 Diesel, external pic here

- Anthony Sava's Ten Wheeler 4-6-0, pic of the creator's original here

- Anthony Sava's amazing Hudson 4-6-4 Streamliner, complete with tender and five coaches. Looks really great - here's Mr. Sava's own rendering of the magnificent build.

- Railbricks/João Campos' CP-5600, details here (built today - it's huge!)

- Railbricks/Jeramy Spurgeon's Fairbanks Morse H10-44, details here (built today)

- and Railbricks/James Mathis' B Unit, details here (also built today, being the problem child at the moment, see my question in the regular Train Tech section).

And this is just the Train bit of my Lego mental illness. There's (all of) the modulars, the lovely Architecture sets, the Eiffel Tower in my livingroom, and the ridiculously expensive Statue of Liberty I bought off eBay in November... and as those of you who saw the Modular Pharmacy that I posted in the Town section before Christmas might have understood, I have also been MOC'ing a bit. Not too long ago, I added up the total worth of the Lego sets I currently own, and almost fell ill. But I can (almost) afford it. And although it's really a bit embarrassing, and I really don't have the space, and I can't set up any kind of display, and my friends (the few who have a clue) think I'm crazy... it's so much fun :)

Now, I'm sure some of you can answer my Train Tech question, so please have a look at it, will you?

Thanks for reading. It's a bit unnerving admitting having bought all this, even to people that I don't know at all - because you speak the Lego language. You know how expensive this hobby is...

EDIT: AAARGHH!! You know, never mind! I found the solution to my own problem by comparing the B unit to the Super Chief. It was suddenly very obvious. So it seems I wrote an unbelievably long introduction to a question that I didn't ask...!

But at least I can ask another, very simple, Super Chief related question then, to you people who know your trains: The correct way to put a Santa Fe set together would be two Super Chiefs back-to-back on the driving end, with the B unit in between, right?
