Capt. Stabbin Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Hi everybody! I have always been interested in Lego trains, but never did anything about it until now. I recently acquired Emerald Night and I am now addicted. I just recently placed a couple orders for more track, and will be designing my layout soon(can't wait!). I'll have to wait a little while for the power functions, but as with all hobbies, it will only get better with time. I am new to the train forum, and have alot to learn. I look forward to being a part of your community! Here are a couple pics. I know everybody has seen this train, but its always nice to look at. Thanks, Capt. Stabbin Quote

Matt Barton Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Hello My name is Matt and I hail from Indianapolis, Indiana. I've come out of the dark ages! I was recently gifted a 7938 Passenger Train for my birthday, and boy did it make me feel like a kid again. When I was younger, I played with LEGO all the time, as well as a Lionel train set from the 1940s that I inherited from my father. I had no clue that LEGO made train sets! If only I had known that as a child because combining both things that I loved dearly back then would have certainly made my head explode. Anyway, since getting the set, I went over to my parents house and found my old LEGOs. I reckon I have a few hundred bricks, but I'm not sure. Of what I can remember, I had a 6075-2 Castle, 6375-2 Gas Station, 6624-1 Delivery Van, and some others. Hopefully, I can use these bricks to help add to my train collection. I've also got an Emerald Night on order that should be here tomorrow, as a matter of fact. I plan to motorize it in the next couple of months. I've also got some additional tracks and cars for the Passenger Train coming. I plan to work on a killer train layout soon, so that has me super excited. Well, thanks for reading and I look forward to being part of the community! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 Big welcome to you Matt. It sounds like you've got some real gems in that Classic Town and Castle collection. You will really love the Emerald, esp. once you get it rolling around the track. Just make sure you build the wheels with the 12:00 / 3:00 configuration. I missed that part on the instructions and mine kept sputtering. In any case, I hope you enjoy Train Tech and feel free to share your train topics and MOCs any time. Quote
BelValcor Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Greetings everyone, I am BelValcor or Bel for short and like many I decided it was time for me to join a support group for my addiction. This is the correct place right? My symptoms include: Making one last trip to the lego section at Toys-R-Us Constantly looking for better storage solutions for piles of bricks Buying that cute little set for that rare part I don't own yet Doing small sketches for possible MOCs at work Struggling with how pure my MOCs are.. revise yet again? Trolling the net looking for inspiration and solutions to design issues Boring my co-workers with my annoyance over a lack of more train track configurations and the list goes on... I guess I can blame my parents. I received my first set at age 7 and it's been downhill ever since. I had an old piece of luggage with plastic containers to do separating of similar parts before I even reached my teens. My parents should have seen the signs then. lol I didn't build or buy anything from my late teens till my early thirties then I saw the re-released High Speed Train (or maybe it was not a re-release.. the box was grey scale.. no colour). And that was it for me. Back into Lego. So here I am. Working on my designs and looking for a great community to draw inspiration from. Life is good. Bel Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Welcome Bel - I hope you enjoy the Train Tech Forum. EB also has a "Hello My Name Is" forum for general introductions. In any case, train fans are most welcome in our Train Tech EB community. Quote
Snapshot Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) Anyway, my train collection now contains: - the green Brick Express GWR 5101, pulling three Blokbricks beverage wagons (red, green, and blue) Ah good, someone else with a 5101. I built one in red as well as green but the green looks better. I've also built three of the BlokBricks timber wagons and I get stick (sorry!) for using real wood for the load instead of Lego. Gareth Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Hello every one, I started in trains back in the 80's when my parents brought me the set '7735 cargo train' for Christmas, I must have spent months playing with it. I managed to get a crossing for it and some extra track and wheels mail ordered from the Lego shop, but unfortunately the next year 9v trains arrived and I was not that impressed with them luckily my parents kept on ordering me 12v items from the Lego shop. Now 25 years on and my son and I still enjoy using the 12volt trains and with the help of brick link and brick factory I can construct all those sets I didn't get all those years ago, and more, I especially like trying to convert 9v trains to 12v. Lego trains for me is the ultimate theme for Lego and now I have found this website its set to get better, when my layout is complete I shall post some pictures up for every one to see. Quote

Bernie56 Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Like Bel above, I too needed a forum to deal with my addiction. I too am constantly lingering at the LEGO aisles in Toy R Us or even driving Disney Downtown's LEGO store. After years of waiting longingly for a LEGO Train set, I finally got in to it this past Christmas. I got the Cargo 7939, a bunch of track stuff, then added the EN (10194), Train Station (7937) and just yesterday, added the Passenger train 7938 with more track. Prior to that I got the Level Crossing (7936). Now, I cannot wait for the 10219 Maersk set to be introduced. My EN has the rechargeable Power pack and the other two have the 6AAA battery pack with one PF controller. Question -I have 6 points to switch tracks and 2 7996 train rail crossing. How can I automate the switching process? Right now, I manual flip them and have to do it fast or else accidents happen. My entire track layout is plastic, with a bunch of the flexible stuff (8867) as I do not have any of the older trains that I coveted for so long. Need ideas on track layout. Right now, my layout is very rudimentary. And how I can automate track switching. Thanks all. Just overcoming childhood deprivations. Quote
peterab Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Need ideas on track layout. Right now, my layout is very rudimentary. And how I can automate track switching. Thanks all. Welcome along Bernie56, Take a look at the older topics, automation of switches (points or turnouts) has been discussed many times. There is no ideal solution, but is a recent topic of someone who intends to sell 4 electric switches in a kit which do look very good. His solution is also very compact, which a lot of others aren't. As far as track layouts go there are a few good resources on the net, have a google and you should find some. BTW if you are finding the crossovers problematic for running two trains on two loops connected with a crossover, try running the trains in opposite directions. You can set the switches so each train will run around it's own loop without interference. Quote
Fede78 Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Hi all, I can't tolk a lot about my lego trains passion becasue my english level it's not so high but I remember that my first train was the 4558 Metroliner set. Tt was the 90'. One year later I added to my Lego city collection the old 7735 Freight one. I traded my old jeans for it. For a long time i stoped to collect Lego (I use to live abroad with my family) but after some years I started against to colelct Lego. I bought a used 6399 Airport shuttle (missed of a lot of peaces) restored to a 100% complete one. So I decided to buy a 4554 station and a couple of manual level crossing. The next one was a 4564 Freight rail runner. After one year my friend decided to sell his lego collection and I bought for a good price anothet two trains (another 4558 metroliner and another 4564 Freight rail runner)...it was really really a good price. Two months ago I met an old men, very kind and very appassionated to Lego sets. He told me a nice story and I told him my passion for trains and city lego's themes. He asked me to make a price and he decided to sell me his trains. I added, disassembled, washed and rebuilt these trains: 7725 Electric passenger train(with perfect instructions) 7727 Freight stream train (with perfect box and perfect instructions) 7730 Electric goods train (with perfect box and perfect instructions) 7735 Freight train (with perfect box and perfect instructions...another one, now i have two of them) 7755 Diesel heavy Shunting Locomotive (with perfect instructions) 7760 Diesel Shunter Locomotive (with perfect instructions) 7821 Overhead gantry and lighting maintenace wagon 7814 Crane wagon with small container 7824 Railway station 7866 Remote controlled road crossing 7834 freight loading deport with wagon 18mt of 12v straight, cross left and right switcing rails That's all my train collection's now. The next one will be the new Cargo Train's. Nice to meet you all, Federico I added a: 7818 Passenger Carriage 4536 Blue Hopper Car 10mt of 12v rails with remote controlled point, left and right points (x6)and, 7860 cross line,an amazing 7866 remote controlled road crossing (it's the second one) and other cross roads. The next one it will be the Maersk Train Quote
Bernie56 Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Can you mix plastic tracks with those of an earlier system? For example, I wanted to add the LEGO 7835 Manual road crossing from the 4.5V system. It just looks nice. If that is possible, perhaps, a train set from that vintage would be very nice addition I think. Quote

LAKAbricks Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Hi everybody! I've been a fan of LEGO since I was just a little boy in the beginning of the 80s. But train was never a part of my collection, though I really liked some of the sets available at the time. Last year, a new TRU opened in my town, and thus had an offer, I couldn't reject: 50% off on all LEGO My heart was set on the 8404 Public Transport Station. Though I didn't want to buy too much (financial reasons...), my beloved wife encouraged me to buy some more. After all, you don't get an offer like that every day And then I decided to buy the 7938 Passenger Train and the 7937 Train Station. A small beginning, but it definately has caught my interest PS If you think, you have read this before, it's because it's the same as I wrote in the thread What got you into Lego? - Origins of your Lego Experiance. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 Welcome to Train Tech Laka. It sounds like you have a very supportive wife which is always nice. I've been looking at the Public Transport set since its release and still haven't purchased with all the other fantastic sets that came out last year. My last "big set" was the Cargo Train which I still haven't opened. I'm looking forward to the Maersk though, and excited about its release. Hope you enjoy our LEGO Train community. Quote
LAKAbricks Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Welcome to Train Tech Laka. ... Thanks for the welcome. I already have enjoy this forum a lot. There are lots of interesting topics. Yes, she's very supportive. Actually so much that she wants me to buy a second train. But I think it's because she also enjoys playing with the train You definately should buy the Public Transport. It's a great set. The most important part to me was the tram, but I got rather happy for the bus as well, it's really well designed. I really look forward to build my town someday I get a little more space for it. Quote
Daedalus304 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I think I'd like to sign here! I've been a LEGO fan since I was 4 or 5, and my first LEGO were two big red Dacta buckets. I always wanted LEGO trains, but never managed to get any (Parents realized how spendy an investment it would be, I supposed XD). My biggest meshing of trains and LEGO was first between my water treatment plant and a house, I set a few of These pieces flat and found they were the perfect scale to run my "Thomas the Tank Engine" toys on. Several trains to catch my eye so far have been the Hobby Train and the Super Chief, but unfortunately I haven't managed to snag either... hopefully down the road! The Emerald Night was the next train to catch my attention, and nowadays I'm able to buy of my own accord . With news of the Maersk coming out I began to fear that I would be too late for the emerald night - So I bought it! It's very beautiful and I'm planning on starting to work on a layout soon for both it and the Maersk engine; as well as the plethora of engines I'm hoping to start designing in the near future. Anyways, that's my "Lego Train Story", condensed anyways (I built several trains over the years that I've skipped over because I'm pressed for time). I've been really excited to get into LEGO train lately though - probably going to switch from collecting Star Wars to this! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Welcome Daedalus. The Emerald really is a beauty, isn't it? It will be interesting to read how others compare the Maersk to the Emerald once it's available. In any case, I hope you enjoy the forum. Quote
medib Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Hi.. I posted a few times here and a few other forums. I've been a collector for 25 years off and on. Mostly On. I bought my first train set in 1999. 4561 Railway Express. Lame. I know, but I'd ALWAYS wanted to have Lego trains in my collection, but I had never enough money myself until I had got older and was out of school. Since then, I have several train sets including a 7745 High Speed Train, a couple copies of the metroliner (1 original and 1 legend) and its adjoining club car (1 original a couple of the legend) I also have a couple of the Sante Fe engines (1 Limited, 2 Unlimited copies), and a few other train sets. The next train sets I'm going to get are the Emerald Night and at least 1 Maersk Train set. Here are a couple copies of some pictures of my collection: Oversized Image Removed I hope you enjoy. Will post more later on. Edited March 11, 2011 by TheBrickster Oversized image removed by TheBrickster Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 Hi Medib. Make sure you don't wait too long to purchase the Emerald. I'd hate to miss out on it. Hope you continue to enjoy the Train Tech forum, but please be aware of our picture size guidelines (800x600 max). Regards, -TB Quote
