Gatanui Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I see where you are coming from, the first two episodes of Ninjago were not as good as the later episodes. But the main problem is the voices which will stay with them throughout the series. Remember, the four ninja are at the same age group as Laval, Eris, etc and their voices were more adolescent than they were. Lloyd was about 7-9 years old when the series started. But regardless I will give it a shot when later episodes come around. I'm not sure about the ninja's age. They could well be young adults, like 17, 18 or even 19 while the Chima characters don't seem older than 13 or 14 at most (or at least they behave that way >.<). -Gata Quote
DraikNova Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 (edited) The Chima characters seem more like 5-10 year-olds to me. Perhaps 14 in some respects. And since they're humanoid animals, their age probably doesn't translate directly into human years. Edited January 19, 2013 by DraikNova Quote

I'm guessing the Age of Becoming is something like 13-14 years old. Quote
PenPlays Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Sorry to break the age discussion (they're animals. they are probably around 5-6) but I'm curious about who exactly are the voice actors for LoC. If someone has it DVR'd, could they post up a list from the credits. Thank you in advance for whoever can. Quote
Oky Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 they're animals. they are probably around 5-6 That would make sense and would explain their childish behaviour. It would be quite ironic as well since that seems to be the target audience for this show. Quote
Meiko Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I have it on my DVR, but I need to find how to get it off FiOS and on my computer. I looked at them, and it doesn't say who is who, but some did say on their Facebook profiles, so you can check the pages for Laval, Eris, Cragger, and Razar on The Chima Wiki. I have those there. The list on Wikipedia is wrong I'm guessing; either that or the credits are wrong, which I would like to assume they aren't. I'll try to find more names and match them to the characters, but like I said, the credits only list the VAs' names, and not the cooresponding characters. Quote

They so locked themselves in in those first to episodes that you really can't see any way that they will be able to write around it in future ones. That whole Lion mantra of rules are rules are rules and its fun to follow the rules. By beating you over the head with it in the first episode, there is no room remaining for it to actually become a meaningful story element or lesson deeper in. When Ninjago first presented its premier, yeah it was a little lame and childish. But the seeming immaturity and flaws In the main characters gave it room to grow. And grow it did. I don't see that room here. Can anyone who has watched this see any way to make Larval or Eris interesting or heroic characters, that does not basically involve ignoring every line of dialogue spoken by them in these two episodes? "Start over with better writing" is not in fact a character arc. And that still leaves the whole "addictive drug war" element of the main plot hanging out there. Mike Shrapnel Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) G'day from Australia. First Post As a father of two children (both less the 10 years old) and who has watched the first two episodes with them, I have a few positive things to say about the show. 1. Faefrost asked "Can anyone who has watched this see any way to make Larval or Eris interesting or heroic characters, that does not basically involve ignoring every line of dialogue spoken by them in these two episodes? " I think the writers can make these characters heroic using the current writing and story line. The way I understand it, Chima and it's animals have only known peace for many centuries. They are not used to violence and conflict between animal tribes. That would explain why the main characters seem to lack a high level of heroic behaviour as they have not needed to be heroic, until the war comes. War can bring out the best (and worst in people). I feel the story will be more interesting seeing Larval and Eris grow from innocent youths to war hardened soldiers. This is the direction the writers could go. 2. My children love the show. as much as they first loved Ninjago. They are huge fans of Ninjago now. 3. The music and animation are excellent. 4. The writing, for the most part, was good for a childrens show. The writers raised themes of what it means to be a friend, acceptance of other cultures, order vs improvisation, sharing, responsibilities of growing up and of leadership as well as respect for nature. That is a reasonable amount of information to cram into a 40 minute childrens show. Edited January 20, 2013 by Mike Shrapnel Quote

PenPlays Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 (edited) I just watched the first two episodes again. Something I noticed was that one of the robed lions has a whiter colored mane. Not to mention a Jeweled Crown. She was also present when Crominus and Crunket came to pick up Cragger. Lion Mom? I think yes. Knowing Toys R Us, It will be one of the preview videos we've already seen. I'm really ticked though that I have to wait until the Summer. Not to mention that Toys R Us will be giving the kids some codes for the Chima Vault. I've had no luck in finding some and I just NEED that concept art! Edited January 21, 2013 by Penkid11 Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I thought this is what would happen. Shame really, wanted to see where this was going soon. Quote

krystalKING Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) Alright, my thoughts on part of the primeire. Positive: The animation was good, the fighting was fast paced, which is something they didn't do with ninjago, and Crooler had one of the best evil personalitys I've ever seen. Overall, I'm positive about where this is going. Negative, (Warning, overley negative about a couple small things.) First of all, I'm disappointed with how much screentime most of the tribes got, espescially the eagles. Second, they F***ED UP ERIS' PERSONALITY. I mean it, she's described as a joker, good storyteller, and a quick thinker. lets look at some comparisions. Joker, I never saw her make a single joke, unless you count the line she got while fighting Cragger in the falling jungle. Something along the lines of "A little birdie did, with some big, metal, eggs!" Good storyteller, OK, I'm going to let this one pass, I havn't seen her tell a story yet, so I'm going to wait. Quick thinker: Alright, this was denied when cragger attacked during the speedor tournament. She could've hopped off, or flown away, but instead she sat there and screamed, which also puts her bravery into question. sorry for complaining, I had to get this off my mind. Meiko Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I expect we'll see a lot more of the eagles for one big reason: LEGO's real reason for the show is that it's a big marketing campaign. So the show is going to have to market the eagle sets eventually. I can picture a really cool battle scene with the Ultra Stiker and Eagle Interceptor. Quote
Aanchir Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) A lot of the criticisms I'm seeing (besides voice acting) could just as easily apply to Ninjago's pilot. The villains in the Ninjago pilot were mostly either dumb or had weak motivations, the one female character, Nya, served as little more than a damsel in distress (seriously, she was involved in a single fight towards the beginning and was promptly captured), and very few of the characters seemed very developed. The heroes were fairly immature-- besides Cole, we had the hotheaded Kai, the bad joker Jay, and Zane whose distant and humorless personality was much shallower than in later portrayals and whose principal character trait at the time, his "sixth sense," was used almost purely as an excuse to utter cheesy lines like "I sense we won't be getting out of this one!" So in general, I don't know what to think about the criticisms I'm seeing here. They all seem like things that could improve over time, besides the voice acting, and to be honest I've hardly ever seen a voice acting criticism amounted to much besides a random bias against high-pitched voices or certain accents (examples: Kiina and Berix from BIONICLE: The Legend Reborn, Lloyd and the Overlord from LEGO Ninjago, Mark Surge and Will Furno from LEGO Hero Factory). Haven't seen the TV special yet so not reading spoiler tags, but I'm hoping to catch up soon. Edited January 23, 2013 by Aanchir Quote
Meiko Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Good points Aanchir. I brought up the part about Nya in a group chat with some friends. She was captured by Garmadon what? 2 or 3 times, right? It got pretty repetitive. Quote
