Scubacarrot Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 "Let's not risk damaging potential goods. We take the chest with us. And someone take that bow and arrows." Guts swings the chest on his back, he then says: "Let's take a look at the beach." Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 (edited) QM Note: You can't take a chest with you, that's just over the top! Maybe if the person carrying it is Slowed or something. Edited January 10, 2013 by Rumble Strike Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 "Hm, Nagure, you are a strong lad, pick up the chest, will you?" Quote
Etzel Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 "Three rogue heroes and none of you can pick a lock? I don't think carrying around the chest is a good idea, we need everyone to be on top of their strength and speed if we are to face the Sisterhood, Haroka and his Inquisitors. Let's open it now with force." Quote
Chromeknight Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 (edited) It is a shame Sarick is not here. I have seen him freeze a lock such that a small blow shattered it and opened such a chest. Mizuki, since you have that compass, perhaps it can point in the direction of the key. Nerwen checks the bow and arrows. If the can be moved, she picks them up, if not, she damages the bow and breaks the arrows so that it cannot be used. Edited January 10, 2013 by Chromeknight Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 "Look. It seems everyone has heard these stories about rogues being able to open locks with hairpins and lockpicks and whatnot. But those stories are not true. Why lock something at all if every rogue can open it as quickly as snapping your fingers? Todays' locks are harder to crack. I could probably do it, if I had the tools and some time, but we have neither. I'm leaving the chest here, for now. If we find the key, we can come back." Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 (edited) QM Note: The bow can be taken and is of a type the same as in the Marketplace (WP: 5). If Nerwen takes it she will need to drop the Shackles of War. With the chest saga sorted, are you still heading to the beach? Edited January 10, 2013 by Rumble Strike Quote
Tachyon Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Mizuki swaps the bow for her helmet and pulls out her magic cimpass. Thinking of a key to open the chest the party has taken, she looks at her compass watching the needle spin. OOC:Will bodify later. Quote

Endgame Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 "If I get sand in my fur, this is all your fault." "Beaches are not half bad. Just take a dip in the water, assuming that there is not some sort of horrifying kraken in the water." Quote
Chromeknight Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 "Beaches are not half bad. Just take a dip in the water, assuming that there is not some sort of horrifying kraken in the water." We are trying to summon the Kraken are we not? Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 QM Note: apologies for no picture at this time, the ones I took were not good enough. I will also update your party stats later. Mizuki's compass points to the direction of the kitchens, where they can still see palls of smoke drifting lazily across the horizon from their encounter with the Guardsmen. If the key was in the kitchens, it is likely yet another victim of the fire that decimated Ismelda's workplace. The party head towards the beach, the murky gloom clutching at them, cold and harsh but concealing them from any more lawmen. The beach looks deserted, almost serene with the waves lapping at their feet, but they can see strange tracks that go from the waters edge, across the drifts of sand and towards the tall tower that dominates the skyline. Endgame Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 "Hmm, true. Demonic shark then, maybe?" Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 "Hm fine. We go back to the armoury and force the chest open." Quote
Tachyon Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) OOC: Would nostrum improve our chances of opening the chest with the contents undamaged? Edited January 11, 2013 by zakura Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 QM Note: Good question! I have checked the description of Nostrum's however and the "battle roll" only applies during battles. Quote
Endgame Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I look at the chest, wondering what was inside. "Hmph. I have an idea." Unsheathing my steel fan, I close it quickly: it now bore more semblance to some sort of metal chopstick... made of 8 folded together blades. I put the now incredibly narrow device into the lock, not trying to open it, but just trying to file down the inner edges of the lock a bit, making the weapons and perhaps even the key fit in that much easier. Just trying to stack the odds! Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Back at second floor of the armoury, Sorrow carefully sheers tiny slivers from the lock, his tongue out in concentration. He stands back, pleased with his efforts, and Guts takes the hilt of Lifestealer and smashes the front of the chest in. (Damage decided by dice roll on a sliding scale, where 1 is undamaged, 6 is totally damaged. Dice rolled: 4) The wood splinters with a loud crack. Too loud. It's clear that some vials are also damaged. Guts pulls out a tan-coloured satchel and a cutlass. The chest clearly stored the prisoners effects. The satchel contained one Smelling Salts, one Nostrum and one Mead. The rest of the consumables Laxadaisi may have had contained within were soaking the fabric of the satchel. Hlin's face lights up when he sees the cutlass. "This is my blade! I even had a gem infused in it once I began my adventuring!" Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) "Well. Better than nothing. I'm using some of those, I get the most use out of them." Guts drinks the Mead and Smelling Salts, and hands the Nostrum to Maurice, hands the Cutlass to Hlin, and takes back the hollow dagger. "Better drink that before we are off again to the Church. It's not like we have a better idea?" Edited January 11, 2013 by Scubacarrot Quote
Endgame Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 That wasn't too effective... "Looks like we'll go challenge Sorona again. Nobody fall for that stupid vortex trick again..." Quote
Chromeknight Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 With a swift move, the tip of Nerwen's torch staff pushes on Guts' forehead, the ruby inside glowing a sullen, pulsing red. Greedy rogue! First your violence breaks things. Then in your addiction addled brain you think it right to just take without discussion. In our faces no less. Leading a party requires care for all, not simply yourself. You are making this quest more difficult than it needs to be. and in an OoC explanation, Rumble has already bemoaned the difficulty of balancing battles given the sheer amount of damage a buffed Guts does. I know that you built him to do that Scuba, and that in some senses it's not your problem, it's Rumble's. However, it's the rest of the party that gets squished, or worse, does not feel like we are contributing much to battles. And that breeds disconnected players, which is bad for the game as a whole. I'm not sure what I'm asking for here. Guts acted completely predictably (in-character). And, knowing you, Scuba, you put thought into that action rather than doing things heedlessly. I guess I wanted to point out a side you might not have thought over. Anyway, done is done. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 "I asked if you had a better way to open the chest, you didn't gave me an answer. We've already seen our enemies, Cleric. I doubt they'd be suddenly less capable if I had not been using these consumables. Prepare." I don't think it matters for this battle, as we know what we are going to face, but if we get more consumables, Guts won't use them, so the other battles can be balanced with that in mind. Guts is already severely nerfed in this battle because he won't be able to use Lifestealer. Quote
Chromeknight Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) Better answer? I suggested to Mizuki that she use her compass to find the key. But the key was destroyed. Was there another opportunity to suggest something amongst all the running back and forth from the beach? Perhaps now you have had your fix we can return to finding out what made those tracks out of the sea? Edited January 11, 2013 by Chromeknight Quote
