Honorable Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Wow, the jazz musician looks better than I anticipated, and to top it off, he has a saxophone! I play the saxophone in real life, so this minifigure just took the number 1 spot for my favourite CMF. The scarecrow, constable, tiki islander, bavarian girl, yeti, and gingerbread man are up there as my favorites as well. I'm not really too excited for the rest of the series, though they all look quite nice, except for that clockwork robot... Quote
jluck Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I am thrilled to see some physical pictures, really all I'm waiting for now is WhiteFangs review. I'm kind of surprised at a lot of the dislike the lady robot is getting. She's not my favorite but the key in the back is a cool piece and the placement of the designs on the front are actually pretty amusing! Quote
Yooha Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 The Constable's collar says 1337! Made me laugh. What does this number mean? Quote
Haltiamieli Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 What does this number mean? In geek/nerd culture it reads as "leet", that is "elite" (cf. linked Wikipedia article). Strange design choice for the old-style bobby, I have to say. Maybe there's some interesting story behind it. Quote
pjonze Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I'm still wondering what the welder looks like under his mask - focused concentration with a sweaty brow? Quote
Alcarin Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 What does this number mean? 1337 is a synonym for leet 1 = l 3 = e and 7 = t https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet It became more commonly seen and used word with the wide spreading of computer gaming where MMO game (massive multiplayer) and especially games like Call of Duty (FPS) people and young generation started using terminology like lol, noob (n00b) haxor, suxor, and 1337 or leet! leet really represents ELITE. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I've never heard that before. Not sure why a bobby would have that. I hadn't thought of the welder's face. I would assume sweat involved, which would be nice to have some more variety. I wonder if the mech will have something else on the other side. Quote
Dragonfire Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 The welder and the gingerbread man are beginning to grow on me... Quote
Yooha Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) http://www.flickr.co...s/99156425@N03/ Pictures of 9 of the minifigures in the flesh (or should that be plastic?) here. *EDIT* It seems that whoever took the pictures put the skates of the Diner Waitress on the Yeti. He said on Brickset that he is only missing the Tiki Warrior and the Jazz Musician (which is annoying as I want to see them in the flesh/plastic). Some more photos are up now. The diner waitress looks a little better now. And has a double face Edited July 21, 2013 by Yooha Quote
lifeinplastic Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 The Waitress looks a little better but it is really annoying when, like the Mechanic and American Footballer, the figure has a name tag or specific number which means using multiples in a MOC just looks wrong. For example, every player on the American Football team is number 12 or all the mechanics in the garage are called Raph. Now all the waitresses are called 'Ta...something' You would think the designers would consider this when creating the figure but it's a pity they only see each figure as their own design and each figure as an individual one-off figure rather than something than can be used multiple times. This certainly limits their appeal and the number of each I would have otherwise bought. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I wonder why the mountain rescuer has a huge pick axe and not an ice pick ? Plus looking at the waitress.....now doesn't make you want to MOC an Arnold's from Happy Days ? Quote
jonwil Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 And the Mechanic figure would be a great start for one of the other characters on Happy Days (I forget which one though) Quote
CM4Sci Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 Ha, angry waitress! The color doesn't look bad at all. -Sci Quote
8BrickMario Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I think her name is Tara as a reference to Tara Wilkes, a CMF designer. Her angry face is funny, and she looks better. Quote
JeagerEX Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) She's mad, but she's stop laughing. Anyways that angry face and a hair reminds me of the News Reader from LEGO City Undercover. Edited July 21, 2013 by JeagerEX Quote
8BrickMario Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) I'd like a picture of her minus the accessories, so we can see what the yellow and cool yellow look like in proper light. You can see it on the legs, but I want a full shot of the color comparison on the figure. One of the reasons I don't like the Lady Robot is that the gray base color is too bland on her. If it was a pale pink or lavender, it would get the feminine appearance across better, and would be more colorful. Edited July 21, 2013 by 8BrickMario Quote

8BrickMario Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Yeah, that does. You know, I can't believe I asked for something (a robot, to boot) to be more girly! What is wrong with me? Quote
lifeinplastic Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I think her name is Tara as a reference to Tara Wilkes, a CMF designer. Her angry face is funny, and she looks better. That would explain it but still... as nice as her name is I don't want all my waitresses to be called Tara! Please, please Lego make figures more generic for multiple use. It's really annoying!!! I think the grandmother has been quite unfairly judged. I think the hair looks good in grey and although I dislike figures with open mouths, the torso and accessories are pretty neat. The mountaineer has the crash helmet in red, which is quite appealing. I wish the elf was more colourful with a better face. Hopefully the 'Blues Brother' will signal further musicians, as it is a well crafted figure. The crow on the scarecrow looks a bit ill though! Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I see why they took a chance, trying to see if they could pull off yellow attire on a yellow-skinned fig. But it just doesn't work. Her legs, specifically, look like she's naked with a strip of suntan or sunburn. The colors just seem too close to imply separate surfaces. Quote

Though i would be angry too if i had to serve ice cream while naked and sunburned, So that explains the face . Quote

Somebody ought to report him to Chase McCain... Quote
Tamamono Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 As I suspected, the Waitress is spectacular (don't even step to me, "haters" ). White tray!! Quote
Jargo Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 So the scientist is called Professor C. Boden according to her security badge. Is that another Lego designer? Or is it a science joke I'm not getting? The waitress with angry face reminds me of gruff voiced Roz from Monsters Inc. "Wazowski!" I'm liking the mountain rescue dude more and more. The barbarian is cool and the Professor C. Boden is excellent. That robot though. I see a mischievous face on her torso print with the gauges as eyes and the little display below like a sharp toothed mouth. It's unsettling. Quote
8BrickMario Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Haha, that does remind me of Roz! I think the colors are distinguishable. She doesn't look naked or half-naked to me. It's a bad color choice, but it's easy enough to see the color difference. I like her better now, but still want to see her hair from the back! Diner Waitress: "Sorry, mista, I've told ya five times that we're outta root beeya floats!" Quote
