CMF 11 will be officially available at all European Brand stores as well through S@H on the 1st. August!

Argg... I had hoped for September, because the rumors says that serie 11 wont be available in many shops in Denmark, according to the rumors only LEGOLAND and the LEGO brandshop will have that serie, and I wont be able to go to Copenhagen before September :cry_sad:

I picked up the CMF book fairly cheap this morning, and finally got my hands on the Toy Soldier fig included with the book.

What a wasted opportunity-- talk about an amazing army builder that never was!! Great little fig... I'd have picked up at least a dozen to swap out heads. Why couldn't they have put the Sad Clown in here and included the Toy Soldier in Series 10...?

Because the Sad Clown is the perfect candidate for the "dud" fig of Series 10? I do wish that the Toy Soldier was a proper army builder, but that's off-topic.

I'm sorry, but sometimes they aren't there to prevent off-topic discussions. I don't mind it normally, but I wanted to point out that there is a topic for the Character Encyclopedia. I try not to be a mini-mod, but sometimes there are little things that I hope I am allowed to help with. :classic:

I think the Gingerbread man doesn't really fit..

But the rest are pretty good

Yep, I have to agree with you Blondie. I've got a complete set, so there's no stopping now... but I just don't have the same enthusiasm as I did 7 or 8 series ago. Wow, that sounds like a joke but it's actually true!

I go through phases of fatigue when I think of the ones that don't appeal to be. However, each release they come up with something that really impresses me. I get all the figures I want in a few weeks and swear off the wave. But then as I check for good deals each week, I get a few to meet the LEGO craving. I don't need them but it is hard to walk down a LEGO aisle and not buy something. A CMF package is to a large set as a candy bar is to a buffet.

Just to clarify, I don't mean fatigue in the sense of getting sick of them, I just mean that it's extremely taxing trying to keep up with them all, and get as many as I want of each figure. With about three series a year now, that means there are 48 new individual figures each year (not including things like Mr. Gold, the Toy Soldier from the Character Encyclopedia or the entire Team GB series), and each of them costs about three bucks here in the US. That means it gets pretty expensive trying to get at least two of each, never mind the considerably greater numbers I inevitably want of at least one or two figures per series. That's in addition to trying to afford all the other, "regular" LEGO sets I want each year, which is hard enough.

On top of the expense, though, there's literal physical fatigue, since getting the figures I want means putting in actual physical effort and time (to feel the packets). Suppose it takes an average of a minute of packet-feeling to make a sure determination of which minifigure is inside. It then takes a full hour to go through all the packets in a freshly-opened, 60-minifigure display box in the store, assuming I go through every one (which is frequently the case, since I might want every one I can get of one or two "army builder" figures in a given series). In practice, since it can take longer than a minute of feeling to be sure of a certain figure, it often works out that I might spend well upwards of an hour (or even two or three) feeling every packet I can from a couple boxes of minifigures out on a store shelf. Just standing there in the store aisle for a couple hours is draining in and of itself - still fun, mind you, hunting all those minifigures, but it does take a toll after a while, for someone who's both a completist (wanting at least a little of everything) and an army builder (wanting a lot of certain things).

My Polish friend just reported back. He couldn't find S11 anywhere and even went to a LEGO store, but the people there didn't know anything about it. It's funny, the minifigs probably aren't supposed to be out yet anywhere in Poland, but people are always releasing CMFs earlier than they are supposed to.

I can understand the fatigue. The ideal situation is finding a new unopened box and a chair to leisurely feel the packets. Normally when I am able to feel the packets, I have my toddler in tow, so it can be quite difficult to pay attention to both. Needless to say, it requires multiple visits to get the figures I want in the numbers I want. That also adds to the fatique. The CMF are a great addition to the LEGO world, but it does add up getting multiple figures, plus all of the other sets out there. I think I am going to have to quit some themes just to make sure everything gets into my LEGO room.

I'm not a completist by any means, but I like having a collection. With exclusives/rare figures, I gave up the idea of having one of everything. But for most things, I am an army builder, so that ends up taking up a lot of the money that could have went to an exclusive figure.

I'd rather pay a little extra to get the figures from bricklink or ebay. I really can't deal with disappointment and wasting journeys to find something but coming home empty handed. So I let someone else figure out what each figure is and cherry pick. I think the money I spend on postage is probably about the same as I'd waste accidentally picking up the wrong figs if I was out feeling packets. And the cost of travel. On balance I think Bricklink and ebay are the better option.

regarding the release date of series 11, I passed on the info to my brothers step daughter who is madly deeply in love with Lego right now and she went to bed a very happy young lady.

Saxophone piece=Simpsons? Or has that rumor been debunked?

Good point! Tonto's crow is with the Scarecrow in this series, so there's a precedent set for licenced theme/CMF part crossover...

Honestly, I pick out my favorite 3 or 4 and then get any others online too. There will always be the $5 figures but most got for very near their msrp value if you buy within the next few months.

I haven't been a real completionist for the Collectible Minifigures at any point. Typically on any one shopping trip I'll just get a handful of Collectible Minifigures my two siblings and I like, and we divide them up when we get home. My earlier CMF series are more complete than my more recent ones, but that's less about CMF fatigue and more about my brother and I not going on as many shopping trips lately, or having other things we're more concerned with finding on said shopping trips.

Feeling the bags for figs I like has always been my policy with the CMFs, and that takes a certain amount of time and concentration. So if I'm on a shopping trip and have not yet found everything I wanted to find on that trip, I don't exactly have time to burn. For the first few CMF series, I was at college in Vermont and most of my shopping trips were via my college's shuttle service. This meant that after checking what's available at the few stores in my immediate vicinity I would often have plenty of time to burn before catching the return shuttle. My twin brother and I also had a very powerful motivation to buy CMFs at that time: our younger brother was at boarding school, so we'd regularly ship him a third of the CMFs we bought so he wouldn't feel bored or lonely.

When my brother and I went to college in Boston last year, we didn't end up getting CMFs as often, partly because there are so few places to buy LEGO near the school where we were at (and the ones that sold CMFs were often one or two series behind schedule at any given time), and partly because we often had much more important things to buy like groceries and school supplies.

And when I'm at home, as I am currently, I probably get the CMFs least often of all. I don't drive yet so I have to either join my mom on shopping trips or catch the local transit buses, and the main places around here where I can go to buy LEGO are much less pedestrian-friendly than the places I'd buy LEGO in New England. So I spend more time hopping from store to store than sitting in one store feeling bags. I also feel a little more self-conscious about any kind of "impulse spending" when I'm at home because I'm having a hard time finding a job and I want to be able to show my parents that I'm fiscally responsible.

Just another reason I miss my time in Vermont, I suppose. It felt like I had so much less to worry about up there on a number of levels, and I was able to enjoy myself a lot during that time as a result.

When will this series be available in The Netherlands? I want nr1 and maybe nr5, the rest is not very usefull for me. I am buying the figs I want to have, basicly the ones I can build an army with  .

I was at the Lego store in Arundel Mills and the manager told me series 11 should be out by at least mid August if not a bit sooner. So I guess I'll be checking back in or going to TRU in two weeks. The Evil Mech and Jazz Musician are calling my name..

Great, when I get back from my trip I'll be going on, it'll be the second half of August. I'll head to TRU when I get back home in a couple of weeks!

Mid-August, not that long, but too long to wait for  . So, how many of nr1 should I buy? He makes a great gladiator or viking war lord, or something like that.

I was browsing the internet, like always  , and I found this. It says the figs will be available the 1st of September, not mid-August  .

That's a preliminary date. Mid-August are "unplanned" early releases at Toys"R"Us/Five Below stores in the US usually. I'm sure it's a September release for the US.

O, then I understand. For the Netherlands this site is pretty accurate, so I guess I won't be seeing the series 11 figs before September here, I even think it's going to be mid-September where I live :cry_sad: . Lego's are always late in the stores nearby.

It's mentioned on lowlug that the collectible minifigs series 11 will not probably be released in regular stores in the Benelux.

NOOOOO, I don't want to drive that far just for some minifigs. I hope they will be available here in special stores though, but if they are not sold here, we always have the internet :sweet: .

I like this series quite a bit, as there are a lot of figures that can be added to the Winter Village sets; the elf, gingerbread man, grandma (and last series grandpa) will find a home in my village scene this year. The lady robot is my least favorite here, it's just a rehash of the clockwork robot. And those strategically placed meters on the robot's chest.... come on Lego, you're better than that :hmpf_bad:

The female scientist is one of my favorites. I love the beakers, one of my favorite minifig accessories. Can be used for scientists, or potions in a medieval setting.

(This post is a musing. It isn't meant to derail the thread or start a protracted debate.I just wanted to make a comment but didn't see a point in creating a separate thread.)

In my opinion the clockwork robot is the worst minifigure of the modern age. Maybe if the base colour was pearl grey or a primary colour they might be interesting but the light blue grey is just so bland. The decoration just sits there all limp and pathetic and it should really pop at you and make you go WOW!. The female robot is a really bad idea. For one thing the design of the torso is dubious and for another, robots are genderless. There's a billion ways Lego could have got another female fig in the mix and this is a rotten choice. Rather than being a notch on the feminism flag pole it's got girly pink colouring and lipstick which smacks of sexism and gender stereotyping. A shot in the foot for Lego.

Like I say, it's merely my opinion and yes, I'll be ignoring the figure in future and pretending it didn't happen. There will be some of you who disagree and say it's just a bit of fun. I say that makes you complicit in the sexism and gender stereotyping. How can Lego put a strong female character like the scientist in a series and then this robot? Ugh, horrible 1950's misogyny. It makes me think the scientist isn't a scientist at all but a lowly lab assistant instead. Because "girls don't do science, all that thinking melts their brains. Now run along and bake me a flower or press some dead cakes in a book or whatever it is you delicate types do". It's all too Stepford wives.

I think Lego need to up their game. Ditch the pink as default colour on female CMF's and be more interesting. More adventurous. And definitely, DEFINITELY no more sexualised female robots! It's tacky and creepy as hell.

I agree that the girl robot is stupid and I don't want one. I don't feel that it takes away from the scientist. Each minifig stands on its own.
