April 25, 201311 yr Yay! 10 series appeared in my local Lego shop. Medusa is indeed a piece of minifig art, and her face makes great orcish woman! The tribal-punk (heheh) is a well made minifig, I love how each arm have own printing! And the final one- The capi... oh who cares about capitain?! The seagull is indeed rubbery piece but it looks great and I really hope we will get a scare crow with the same mold crow!

Taking my state, for example, there are 138 targets TRUs and Walmarts, and assuming each gets 3 boxes (TRU will probably get more, but there are only 11 TRUs) for a total of 415 boxes, 75 Shopkos that may get 1 box each for 75 more, and 1Lego store that may get 20 boxes. That's about 500 boxes, and if you multiply that by 50 states, you get 25,000 boxes. Now, assuming half of the CMFs in the world go to the US, that means 2500 Mr Golds in about 1.5 million packs. That's 1 in 600 packs. Even if you assume 5 boxes per store and 40 boxes to the Lego store, that's that's still only 1 in 1,000 packs. If you assume half of the US sales are online (which I highly doubt) that's one in 2,000. I know I'm making a lot if assumptions here, but 1 in 3,000 seems FAR more accurate than 1 in 10,000.
April 25, 201311 yr Well, now my tally is at 720 packets searched without luck. FYI - these are all brand-new, unsearched cases I am searching. I don't know about the rest of you, but even if I find a Mr. Gold, I will still feel very frustrated by this whole thing. I have been buying the CMF since series 1. Each and every figure. And this is how Lego says "thank you?" By releasing a figure which, odds are, I will never find? Doesn't seem like a very nice thank you to this loyal customer... "thanks for supporting us for ten sets! Now we're going to make it so you can't have a COMPLETE set unless you're rich, insane, or extraordinarily lucky!" I appreciate the fact they wanted to do something special for their 10th anniversary series, but making it THIS rare was not the way to go in my humble opinion. - MJ

I haven't even had the chance to search any yet, none in my area. I am very glad that I'm not too impressed by Mr. Gold though, I don't really feel like I want to even bother hunting for him. I'd rather just get the regular minifigures from the set. Give me medusa over Mr. Gold any day.

Sorry, but are you serious? I mean, Minifigures are sold only in TRUs and Walmarts? In my country you can find minifigures at newsagents, kiosks, supermarkets, highway stops, small toy shops, great toy centers... I would count more boxes in my city than in your whole state. Sorry, but since I know that TLG is not endorsing too much Italy because we have not enough Lego fans (we don't even have a Lego Store on the whole National ground...) I can't believe my single city hosting more boxes than your whole state. I say: I'm not calling you a liar or telling you you did your math wrong... just that's too strange. Say a friend of mine, a newsagent, ordered 20 boxes for series 7... and he's just a newsagent. Plus: how can you possibly work with people wanting a whole box? Here, I know a LOT of people ordering 2-3 boxes for THEMSELVES as soon as a series is out. If only 4 hundred boxes where available, how could this have possibly worked? From my calculations, I assume we will host 400 boxes in Rome only. So, if TLG does the proportion and delivers 400 boxes to a 3 million inhabitants city, 1 person out of 125 will have a random minifig. If I live in the average country, I would say about 40 to 50 million minifigures will be around, making odds of having a Mr.Gold up to 1 out of 10k EDIT: I found out on wikipedia that prior to minifigures series, TLG already produced about 150/200 million minifigures per year. It's very likely that now they go 200M minifigures per year from normal sets and 200M minifigures per years from three series of collectible. So that's very in line with my calculations. I affirm again that the odds of finding a Mr.Gold are about 1 to 10.000 / 12.500, IMHO Edited April 25, 201311 yr by Itaria No Shintaku

However, seeing as how Lego does this all the time (I will never own a Bizarro Superman or White Boba Fett) it's not out of the ordinary. Edited April 25, 201311 yr by The_Duke

The Sad Clown is a neat fig that would be great as the exclusive for the forthcoming CMF Encyclopedia. And the Toy Soldier is an army builder that should be six to a box. I agree with you on all three! The Gingerbread Man or Holiday Elf from the next series may come with a candy cane piece, allowing to be recolored brown, though! I think the Sad Clown would be a really stupid idea for the Minifig Encyclopedia, as it really doesn't capture the spirit of the Minifigures to me, but they should've given the book Mr. Gold, instead! A book figure being an army builder is poorly thought out. We also need minifig-sized books! Playmobil has appropriately sized books! I mean, some tomes really are that big, but not every one. I mean, the Librarian is resting her arm (or it is up to arm level) on the book on the pamphelt! EDIT: I had not even thought the seagull was rubbery! Edited April 26, 201311 yr by 8BrickMario

Mr. Gold is not a part of that.... I find this instant gratification demanders so childish... you cannot have everything in this world... learn to live with the fact really.

While I can understand why you wouldn't consider Mr. Gold a part of Series 10 proper (I do because he is a part of the group picture on top of the box,) you cannot deny that he is a part of the Collectible Minifigures Series as a whole. That would be like saying the Toy Soldier that comes with the book is not a part of the series because it doesn't come in a blind bag. And excuse me, "instant gratification?" I wouldn't call searching 700+ packets as "instant" anything. The whole series is designed around searching for the ones you want and not getting ANYTHING instantly. I was bemoaning the fact they made, in my opinion, far too few of a figure which many would consider as part of a series where we are encouraged to "collect them all." - MJ
April 26, 201311 yr Saw 2 boxes at one of my TRU's,used the "have my 5 yr old cousin grab packs at random" method, ended up with Xena,Grandpa,Paintballer,Painter,Indian,Revolutionary Soldier and 2x Baseball players.
April 26, 201311 yr Found some in the south of the UK today in WH Smith. Could not feel them as right on counter and were handed out by staff, (Which is unusual.) but I got five random ones. Annoyingly when I got home and opened them I have three Grandfathers, One Roman Commander and One Biker/Mechanic Guy. I mean THREE Grandfathers out of five random bags, that is not really very random is it?

According to WhiteFangs review there should only be two grandfathers in a box with 60, so if that's true, you are lucky to get three by a random pick.

If you feel an open box, the number may not be accurate; WhiteFang was talking about a sealed, new-from-factory box. Besides, IDK how good your feeling skills are or what you felt, but if you did feel just a mug, a few of those could have been librarians.
