michaelozzie Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 My wife came home with a nice suprise for me today. Picked up a Mr gold minifigure at our local village toystore. She didnt even know about him but just saw some collectible minifigures and at the registers and bought 6 random bags. Im thinking what to do with it though, leave it in its sealed bag or open and use it in a moc? "]http://[/url] Quote
The_Duke Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 First off, congrats! Secondly, I thought about what I would do with Mr. Gold and I would hope I would build him in the bag and leave him sealed and displayed him with my other minis. Quote
8BrickMario Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I went to the Target. Didn't have S10. LEGO store had a ton, but if I really did feel every one, no Gold. After every failure, I get depressed, and now I'm running out of places to look! I really want him, but I am starting to feel like I'll never get him. Quote

I really don't want to be other than sympathetic, but the odds are totally against anyone. I strongly believe odds are so small that a super searcher has exactly the same odds as the random buyer. And the last acquisition by michaelozzie confirm what I am saying since the beginning. No sense in damning for finding him. One should open/feel AT LEAST 10K bags (thus opening way more than 150 boxes), and even after this you won't reach the minimum odds. Lego should have spreaded 10 times more, 50K would have lowered the odds to 1 out of 1000 and this way it would have been sensed to go raiding packets. I will raid as ever, the only difference is I will feel all the bags, even after finding what I needed. That's all. Really if I would like someone to find it after me, it would be you, no kidding, you really seem to be the most caring user on EB about Mr.Gold. But for this reason I really would suggest you to keep on looking but WITHOUT ANY HOPE. Really, dude. Quote
KanyeTwitty Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Had a pretty decent May the 4th today ... everything's coming up chrome ... Quote

I won't be totally hopeless when searching. but even though the odds are so small (really, LEGO, don't do this again), I can't help but be disappointed when unsuccessful. Today I almost freaked out when a little kid was looking for him too. It's hard when the minifigs are out in the open! I kept on snatching up the packets other customers rejected to see if it wasn't him! Edited May 4, 2013 by 8BrickMario Quote
KanyeTwitty Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I was at a Lego Store, searching for a ship captain and colonial soldier ... found a million mechanics and paratroopers and gave up, but decided to grab two of the TC-14s they had by the register. The family in front of me was taking forever to check out, so I stuck my hand back into the big bin of figures by the cashiers to pass the time ... in the first one I grabbed, I felt a lightsaber ... hmmmmmm ... how can this be? HOLY MOTHER OF CHROME. I'm almost ashamed to admit that my hand was shaking as I handed over my card when I checked out ... Quote
TrumpetKing Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 My Target has them. I'm going to go and pick some up oday. I'll make sure not to let Medusa escape my hands again. Quote

I'm scared to waste my time and check at the LEGO Store... a lot of the employees there search through all the figures before putting them out! Quote

meyerc13 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 The case distribution for this series is the worst yet. The figures I like the most, being a City fan, are the rarest. I had to search through a whole box to find a Sea Captain and Librarian. I don't know what LEGO is thinking here. The mechanic seems to be one of the big losers of this series, 6 in a case and I must have felt at least 10-12 in the case + leftovers that I was searching through. Somehow in my excitement to find a mostly untouched case (the TRU employees warned me that some guy had searched both of their cases for a Mr. Gold), I forgot that I still need a skydiver, so it looks like I'll have to keep searching to find him plus the extra Sea Captain, Librarian, and Grandpa I'd like to find. With those being so rare, I think they are going to be almost as hard to find as Mr. Gold, and to me they are more valuable (although I wouldn't pay $25 for a Mr. Gold, much less the crazy prices he is going for). TrumpetKing Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Well, after a horrible customer service experience, I came back empty-handed. I asked the lady to seach it up on their computer since they weren't on shelves, and she had somebody go and look in the toy aisle again, right after eplaining things to her... Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 (edited) What's with everyone complaining about how rare the gold figure is? That's the whole point of making a rare figure, to have it be rare LOL. The point of having a rare figure is to brag that you have a rare figure, if every third person could get it then it wouldn't be rare anymore and having one in your collection wouldn't mean anything, there'd be no point in LEGO making a big deal about it. I'd love to have a Superbird, a castle, and a life-size replica of Red Sonja, but you know what, they're rare and expensive and I can't find them in little packets at a toy store, so I just have to accept it and move on. I hope I do find a gold figure, that thing would pay for the auto mechanic courses I want to take! Edited May 5, 2013 by Henchmen4Hire Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 I agree with the random sentiments. Of course with enough determination/time/money, you can search and search and find one. But there is no guarantee. It seems random is the way to go. I always feel the packets for what I want and obviously if I feel Gold. I will get him automatically (no brainer), but since I don't have any yet, I will be feeling for a complete 16, plus a few extras of a few people. Since S@H has them, I did order some since none are in stores around here. By doing so, that does give me random picks, which I normally don't do. So I guess we'll see what I get when someone else picks them for me. I don't have my hopes up. I do find it odd about the distribution. Obviously it will never make everyone happy, but it is weird the numbers they think people will want to collect. It seems, some of the figures I've been wanting the most are the ones with the lowest distribution, and not because of that reason. I just happen to like those the most. Thanks TLG for making it even harder for us. I don't care about Gold, I'm talking about the regular series. I realize not everyone will want them in the same total and TLG knows all about army builders, but why not make it them all equally distributed. I realize it is impossible since 60/16 doesn't equal a whole number, but I'm sure there is some distribution that would make more sense than some with only 2 figures out of 60. Quote

Fred Meyer is the worst at looking up inventory. Their computers lag about 2 weeks so even if they did look it up it would do no good. I ran into this with Series 3. Quote
howie28 Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 (edited) Well, I spent a half hour at Target searching for goldy and got nothing. But I don't expect there to be any at all in my small Aussie town. Edited May 5, 2013 by howie28 Quote

Duck Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Being in the middle of a temporary break from Lego, yesterday was my first time spotting (or even realising) S10 was out in UK shops. I got the three I wanted: The centurion, revolutionary soldier and warrior lady and was happy. I think my favourite out of them is the revolutionary soldier (new-style bluecoats huzzar!) . I'm a bit disappointed that the centurions helmet is just grey and not silver like the other roman soldiers - he just looks a bit "cheap" next to the others - would have been great with a shield also. With regards to Mr Gold.... I didn't know of his existence but I did think it was a little odd that there were 12 opened boxes of them CMF's on the shop floor! Quote
Brickmamba Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Wow amazing the amount of gold figures popping out from random purchases, grats to all Quote

Jargo Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Am I alone in not wanting this minifig? Maybe it's because it's ugly. Maybe it's because I don't think chrome is fitting as a finish on Lego and prefer pearl gold as a true Lego colour. Or maybe it's that I have no taste for rarities and exclusives. I think mostly I dislike people crowing smugly about having something others don't. Especially when it's adults and they're taking something intended for children. The expression 'taking candy from a babe' springs to mind. I have the utmost of contempt for anyone now selling these things for hundreds of dollars. Quote
KeepLeft Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 I bought 8 random packets and the only duplicate I bought was two Romans, which I really like, its a pity I never managed to get any of the other series Roman soldiers. I like the themes that get carried through in the series, Like the Romans, also the Indian chief from a previous series goes with the soldier in this series. There are quite a few possibilites to make some nice scenes with these recurrent themes, like using Roman soldiers and gladiators, or Cleopatra or Medusa. So I quite like this series. As for Mr Gold, if he was one of the 16 in a series he would not be on my list to buy, so now that he is rare, quite frankly I am not that eager to get him. Must have more Romans. Quote
305Bats Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 You are not alone,if I found one I'd sell it on ebay,pay some bills,get new tires,buy more Lego,etc. Quote
