I made two pictures into links, because they exceed our maximum size of 800 x 600. If you would like to repost them, please resize them. Thanks!

I like that the horses have different hair colors and the idea of different flags/color schemes for different factions is a good idea. I'm sure the actual quality would be laughable, let alone some of their concepts of weaponry and headgear.

After looking at the pictures of the Toyrific brand Pirate and Castle sets, I find that the themes don't look very consistent. :pir-hmpf_bad: For if you look at the Blackheart Fortress set, it looks as though they tried to combine Vikings, Cowboys, and Pirates in one go. Furthermore, I don't understand what dragons have to do with Pirates, unless Toyrific really doesn't care about blending the medieval with pirates and cowboys. Am I the only one who has a problem with this theme blending?

AH!!!!! :pir-sing: Its a big, fat, wingless dragon with a golden spike for a hand pouncing on a viking-pirate ship!!!!! Seriously though, its running on water! Its a Jesus dragon! (no offense to Christians, I am one myself)

At least it and the island are original.

I would be willing to get some of these just for the sake of different flags or torsos. Obviously the themes all run together, so no consistency there. But my biggest worry would be quality. I have some early 90's megabloks and they look and stick like real lego. Then I have some later 90's version and they hardly hold together at all.

recently picked up some of the fuax legos sets for a friend to use in ESPG they seem fake and have taken great pains to keep the loose blocks from my own sets

Hi,

I recently bought one of the Black Pearl' sets only to find the manual is incomplete. 4 pages missing. Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Black pearls is a copy of Black Seas Barracuda, so you should try to find a Black Seas Barracuda instructions.

By the way, i think you shouldn't buy enlighten sets....they are crappy, even they have cool accesories like chromed swords or new hats and torsos

Thx for the reply man.

I agree with the fake not being the same. But rather let my 6 year old destroy that while my original Lego (on order) sits safely on the shelf.

why not have a official pinned fake lego topic where all topics about fake lego pirates will be stashed in? then no one needs to look for a topic like this. It's bound to show up more and more, so would be a smart idea to keep the forum clean and place it all in 1 official forum instead. :pir-classic:

It is all in one place, this thread. I don't see a need to pin it, since conversation finds it's way here.

Any set reviews of non lego sets go in the community, so this thread serves it's purpose.

I recently purchased a very small set of Enlighten via eBay just to see the quality. It was reasonably priced for what you got in the box so I thought I would give it a go. Plus I had ebay bucks to spend or they would expire so it wasn't any extra money out of my pocket other than shipping from China.

I would say the overall quality isn't bad considering all of the hate for anything non-Lego. The colors definitely do not match up, but there is some good sticking power between enlighten/enlighten and enlighten/lego, so that works I suppose.

In the parcel, I received a pirate, some weapons, a bird, and a skeleton treasure. The new torso is welcome, but the legs were a little off-kilter. The multicolored bird was neat. The skeleton head didn't fit on the body. And the gold crown and coins were a really weird bronze color instead of gold, which I guess is realistic since not everything is the same color.

The box itself was really small since I'm so used to Lego's oversized packing material. Although I rather like the larger pictures/scenes on the Lego boxes.

All in all, it isn't a terrible product, but they could certainly use better quality control. If you've never known anything else, it would be good. But after knowing Lego as the gold standard, it is hard to compare.

i don't understand the meaning of "skeleteon treasure".

By the way...i think the fact that the skeleton head didn't fit on the body and the off-kilter legs prove Enlighten products are bad-quality products, so i don't understand you are saying quality isn't bad.

I have bought lots of Lego sets since 1991 until 1999...in the decade of the 2000's i didn't bought lego products until 2009, when they released new pirates.

And i have never seen a Lego head that doesn't fit on the body of the minifig. I haven't seen off-kilter legs in a Lego nminifig. you bought enlighten products ONCE, and you have seen both things.

And other EB user told us in this same thread about enlighten caps that didn't fit in the heads. I think that proves Enlighten quality is bad

Captain Roger

I don't know what I meant by Skeleton Treasure. I think the set was named that and when I typed it, I must have left out a word. It came with a skeleton and some treasure.

If you read closer, I said they have some quality control issues and compared to Lego they are an inferior product, but if you haven't known anything else, it wouldn't be a bad product, especially for the price. My stating the overall quality not being bad was referring to the sticking power between the blocks. Everyone mentions how things don't stick well at all and these were snug enough without causing any stress to remove them.

I may be reading into this, but your post comes off as upset that I purchased and wrote about this product. No one has to run out and purchase any of these sets after reading what I wrote. I was simply letting the readers know my experience with the product. I still choose Lego above and beyond any other brand. I haven't had much experience with anything other than Lego, so it was worthwhile to spend a few dollars to see what else exists.

I will say that I am tired of these fake pirates flooding ebay... It was ok when a few people were trying to offload Enlighten ships (if they were not all in china, I would have been tempted to buy one.) but now there are so many shifty and enlighten dealers that results pages are coming 50% or more of them. Nuisance! lol.

I have two ships from an off company that I bought back in 1999. I cant remember what they are called though. All I remember is that it took two flat pieces to make a whole unlike Lego's 1/3 pieces. I know Tyco used to do this when they made bricks, but it wasn't them. Anyway, if the ship would have held together it would have been really nice, and at the time it was a good rival in war games involving large ships. I have since packed them up somewhere so I have no idea what they were called. But for my purposes, they were only good for war gaming - I couldn't modify them at all because their bricks would not stick well with lego and were off color.

Well, LegoDoctor...i have already read you said Lego is better than enlighten, but i don't understand why you said Enlighten is interior to Lego, but is not a bad product after all.

If i bought a product of a determinated brand by first, and is defective. My first impresion about that brand is negative. You bought an enlighten product by first, it was defective, and you thought isn't a bad product.

Skaforhire...Shifty isn't a brand...some enlighten sets have written "shifty" in the boxes...but they are Enlighten sets

Still, it is all the same. Shifty is a pretty good name for it all though. I heard that they were two different companies, one is a Knock off of Lego, the other is a knock off of the knock off. Anyone remember 11 years ago when Lego tried to convince the Chinese government to shut down different clone companies? I see it never panned out.

there are lot of companies that are a knock off of Lego. But Enlighten and Shifty are the same brand.

About your question, according to wikipedia:

Also in 2003, a large shipment of LEGO-like products marketed under the name "Enlighten" was seized by Finland customs authorities. The packaging of the Enlighten products was similar to official LEGO packaging. Their Chinese manufacturer failed to appear in court, and thus LEGO won a default action ordering the destruction of the shipment. Lego Group footed the bill for the disposal of the 54,000 sets, citing a desire to avoid brand confusion and protect consumers from potentially inferior products.[3]

About your question, according to wikipedia:

There had actually been a case some years before where Lego sent representatives to China to ask the government to shut down the factories. I don't think anything came of it, but in Europe I know they have had success keeping exports out, as in the case you mentioned.

I absolutely love the way one of the fake brands is called 'Shifty' - so appropriate! Honestly these fake sets do look pretty good in the pictures but I suppose their actual quality isn't too amazing. Haven't really looked about for any fake sets (or real lego) recently so I haven't had a chance to buy any, but I am a sucker for bargain so I might try and get a knock off set and post a review. (I am the 'official Pirate Set Reviewer' after all! :D )
