January 10, 201312 yr I know this is way out there, but I wonder if there is a way to add a medium size bucket (aka 8294) to the 3rd boom...I know most, and I too, bought it for the claw operation, but I was thinking its such a realistic looking excavator of trying to use the mini-LA for the claw function and somehow turn it into a real excavator...any ideas?
January 10, 201312 yr It's probably easy enough done but why bother, we have 8043 for that, it's the claw that's attracting us to buy this set! I'd be more interested on trying to make the claw fit 8043 :)
January 10, 201312 yr It wouldn't be hard at all I wouldn't think. The boom looks long enough to acommodate a LA and you already have an axle running up through there. It could be what the 8294 should have been!
January 10, 201312 yr :O you can already buy it from Estonia, but the price is very high(73 euros). http://www.klotsipood.ee/lego-technic-ekskavaator/t/1490.html

I'd be more interested on trying to make the claw fit 8043 :) Problem is the 8043 is a much larger scale than the 8294 and 42006...i thought I'd just get my thought out there on whether it is possible to attach a bucket like the 8294...I'm trying to modify 1 of my 8294's for just a claw grabber, just having issues since they only use 2 LA's on the 8294. I know its possible to accomplish this, I'm just not as good at MOCs as most of you are...thought I'd throw the idea out there...really it wouldn't have been a stretch for TLG to add a 3rd LA, whether it be full-size or mini for the bucket tilt function...
January 10, 201312 yr Here is mine I built in orange last week: I had to change a few pieces to make it happen. Edited January 10, 201312 yr by Technic Gearhead

January 10, 201312 yr Here is mine I built in orange last week: I had to change a few pieces to make it happen. Now that makes me drool, I wish TLG would make at least 1 excavator in orange instead of standard yellow all the time...the 8294's red scheme was a nice change, but I tend to see a lot of orange color ones around my neck of the woods, wish I had enough orange to modify my 42006 that way...very good work Technic Gearhead... January 10, 201312 yr The orange is great! When I buy it I plan to add more of the small caster type wheels that are on the 8043, the tracks just dont look right with them missing.
January 10, 201312 yr Thanks for the comments on the orange. It's a shame there isn't more available but maybe one of these days there will be. I have been collecting orange pieces for a while, not knowing if there would ever be enough to make a model of any size. It just happened to work out with this one and the 8043 but now I'm just about out of the more rare parts. Edited January 10, 201312 yr by Technic Gearhead
January 11, 201312 yr I missed out on the last Yellow crane thingy they did so I am going to buy this one
January 11, 201312 yr I missed out on the last Yellow crane thingy they did so I am going to buy this one Lego will be issuing another crane in 2H of 2013 42009 Mobile Crane Mk II..so we have our chance!

January 11, 201312 yr One would think with the 8110 in orange that TLG would have enough molds to have made the 42006 in orange...that would have been awesome.

It just happened to work out with this one and the 8043 but now I'm just about out of the more rare parts. Betting some of the fairings and specialized type orange parts were pretty hard to get...funny thing is I have a couple of Unimogs (haven't even built the darn thing yet). I'd open a 2nd window and check BL parts inventory on it, I'm guessing maybe that the right size fairings you needed to duplicate them on your orange exc. I missed out on 8053 You didn't miss out on much in my estimation, it was like a mini-me of the 8421, just not as easy to operate, I put on the PF elements, but the string never quite would wind back on the reel without going off track, a major PITA, though the black wheels were nice....the b model harbour crane was the model I liked better than the crane, though I took the wheels off the 4 'bases' of the harbour crane and added just a bunch of bushings, I cracked my knee on the underside of the table it was on one time and the darn crane took off over the side before I had a chance to catch it...being Technic didn't lose too many parts off it, but the wheels came off, and some 1/2 and full bushes took their place so it wasn't as likely to move, plus I got 8 black wheels to use on a other models, a nice change from standard gray rims Lego will be issuing another crane in 2H of 2013 42009 Mobile Crane Mk II..so we have our chance! Now the long wait until end of July. We just got the 1H, now its 6 months til the 2H...
January 12, 201312 yr Just got my copy tonight with the 10% off coupon from the Lego catalog. Can't wait to start building it. EDIT: I finished building the 42006 this morning. Most of the model is great. The only complaint I have is that the 2nd part of the arm does not close past 90 degrees. So every pickup and drop is from far away. I'm sure I'll be able to modify to my liking. Edited January 12, 201312 yr by gmshades
January 13, 201312 yr Getting mine tomorrow I can barely wait What are you getting tomorrow(weli a couple days later now)? The 42006? It really is a fantastic model, though one thing I wish is that TLG had made a couple modifications like they did with the 8294, mainly raising the tracks up in the middle on with part # 42610 with the small gray wheels to make the tracks rise, but I suppose its easily accomplished...haven't built mine yet but I'm sure I can modify that simple task

January 16, 201312 yr Finally got this set just now, smyths had it in stock :) looking forward to building it soon :)
January 16, 201312 yr Finally got this set just now, smyths had it in stock :) looking forward to building it soon :) Wish it was available retail in stores around here, TRU doesn't have it, and I hate shipping costs and their taxes are higher than my state's are I have 1 copy of it, wanted a 2nd one to play around with claws and make it into a grappler to hold logs and such...only place to buy it here is Lego S@H thus the shipping and such...I have 2 Lego stores, but I'm way in between, one in Detroit, MI and one in Chicago, IL, but I'm about 150 miles away from each and with fuel I'd probably end up with the same cost as if I had it shipped directly from S@H ...
