Shipping (and Rule 34) seems apparently rather common in the Furry Fandom (a friend of mine is a furry).

From that viewpoint I can understand why Chima doesn't bode well with the community - after all, they still look blooky and robotic, and not very furry-like.

But I guess that's off-topic enough.

Wait what? Wings made out of minifigs?!

No, the wings are made of these if the prelim pics are any indication. That's what Huw meant by "the same parts as the minifig sets" (paraphrasing here).

Which is the best way to potray realistic bird wings, and I sort of excepted them to do that. The question is- will the main part of the wing use a new part? Obviously they can't use too many pieces, since they have a number range to stay in, not to mention that would make the wings too flimsy.

The article writer didn't mention anything about Worriz, I'd like if he used a silver version the new spike/fur armour piece found in Laval and Stormer.

I agree the Eris minifigure is quite..attractive. I hope the Ultrabuild figure does her justice.

If he does use the claws, I'm modding him. Anyway, I like the idea of him using silver fur pieces. Hmmm, silver on humanoid wolf. Now that's not going to provoke a lot of silly jokes in this community, now will it.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, I expected these too. I'm honestly thinking about buying Eris' eagle jet just to get a fair load of these (and a whole bunch of winged minifigures).

I'm sure you meant something that refers to Bulk 3.0, but I just recently saw

Can someone tell me how this shifted to rule 34 of all things? I'm seriously lost as to how anyone...nevermind. I'm just kind of at a loss. Well, how can I contribute...ummm...Gorzan's banana belt is pretty epic. Almost constitutes a purchase.

Oh good lord man let's not get into 34 territory here XD had enough of that with Bionicle 0_0

Wait....Someone wanted s*x appeal in LEGO brand???

If the Combiners are anything like HF, they could be cool. Although, very disappointed the wing are made out of minifigs

LOL, yes because we definitely need some sicko making porn out of a toy brand right? Seriously what's wrong with these furries? I mean come on XD Edited by LuckyShot777

Actually, that was a joke about werewolves.

I honestly think Worriz will stick to his set colorscheme, although LEGO might decide to give him purple just for the hell megablocks of it.

...I had not even realized that about the Gorzan set. You're right, that IS epic. Hopefully it's something that makes it to the final set and isn't just preliminary.

The belt alone probably adds about 20 pieces to the set - really hoping that Lego makes it final. Can't wait for Toy Fair.

Being honest I am surprised TLG are not getting sued for this.

If they were sued, TLG would win the lawsuit. Nobody wins a lawsuit when their only argument is that one character looks almost similar. Lion-O in Thundercats doesn't really look anything like Laval, besides red hair and a cat influence. Lion-O has a human face, while Laval has a all-out easy-to-distinguish snout. The argument about Chima being a knockoff of Thundercats is complete bull.

Guess I drop the ball on my last post. By minifigs, I was taking about the wings...

Anyway, I was wonder if anyone has ideas on what their weapons are gonna look like. I was hoping TLC would make an new mold for Eris' Axe. But I can't think of how worriz is going to have his claw thing.

Also I like the designs mostly for the fact that you can make the other characters from the base models. Since there even Chima till 2015. Do you guys think will get other tribes in ultrabuild form?

O, the combiners could be pretty creative if TLC makes them into the legendary Beast. Like Laval Lion Legend Beast.

I think some of the characters might not have weapons at all. The Raven one seems like a clear example of this.

They might decide to make the Fox tribe, although I seriously doubt they'd make the Skunk tribe.

I wouldn't say that. So far we haven't even seen the foxes, but the skunks we have seen in the show. Really, if they make one, they'll make both.

Being a fan of the original and new Thundercats, I can wholeheartedly say that Chima is in no way a copy or knockoff, but merely takes cues from Thundercats.

I am not saying TLG are doing anything wrong. It is not a knockoff of Thundercats, but the "cues" TLG are taking are very obvious, and copyright law is currently very messed up. Don't forget we live in a world in which Apple can get products banned because of rounded corners.

I'm very, very sorry that I brought that up. In fact, I'm so sorry that I'll edit my post a bit. The idea of Bionicle in that regard hadn't even crossed my mind yet (and I don't want it to happen - Kiss Players was enough).

I'd also like to remind all of us that not necessarily everyone in the furry fandom has to think that way.

Since I never watched Thundercats, I can't really judge on that issue, but considering that some of the Hero Factory designs got a slight Transformers vibe IMHO, I guess that's a rather subjective matter. I, for example, don't really care about the storylines of any of the LEGO brands (though I watched a few films from Bionicle and Hero Factory), I simply buy the sets for the sake of MOCing, and same will apply to Legends of Chima as well (for the very same reason I bought Eris' Eagle Jet today, and I'm very happy with that set). Because of that, I don't bother myself that much with issues like the creativity of the plot/setting or how well the story telling is.

In the US. Same does not apply for Europe and the UK.

While I'm in no way defending that kind of behavior from Apple, keep in mind that most of Apple's lawsuits are connected to patent law, not trademark or copyright law. Because of the significant differences between even the most similar characters between the two brands, it's unlikely that any sort of legal action against Lego would be successful.

I have no doubt that Chima is inspired in part by Thundercats (and similar shows and media), but really it's the same sort of semi-vague "inspiration" that Adventurers took from Indiana Jones. It hardly infringes on any copyrights.

What's wrong with Kiss Players?

I must confess that I didn't read any Manga or expierenced any other fiction of Transformers Kiss Players firsthand, but judging from what I read about it on the TFWiki (and partly TVTropes) it contains plenty double-entendres (both visual and in dialogues) I'm uncomfortable with. Despite this though, I'm glad that Kiss Players didn't feature anything outright explicit, but it comes very close to crossing that line.

In short: I didn't wanted to bash Kiss Players, I only wanted to say that we don't need any more form of fiction with robots (as seen in Bionicle) doing squicky things - Kiss Players already covered that.

And allow me to leave it at that - I don't want to derange that topic anymore, since I'm also really looking forward to the Chima Action Figures.

I agree with you on this. Calling Chima a ripoff of Thundercats makes as much sense as calling Harry Potter a ripoff of Lord of the Rings or Uncharted a ripoff of Indiana Jones (funnily enough though, the protagonist of Tomb Raider was originally a guy but was replaced with Lara Croft to avoid too many similiarities with Indiana Jones).

Banana-ammo belt!?

LEGO people, you have me impressed.

I kind of like how Cragger's figure looks, head and blades in particular. Shame he won't get the shells on his thighs in dark green like in the other pic..

Laval looks pretty cool, though I am a little disappointed his feet won't be SP paws. Better for balance this way, true, but still.

Can't see the bird clearly, but dark red is desirable. Definitely.

Posted (edited)

The images in the video are more preliminary than the first picture we saw of Laval and Cragger. In fact it is much more finalized in the old picture that I think it's just a watermarked final image, but that if course is me speculating.
