Rocketbilly Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I don't know, the other Laval and Cragger looked more finished, not to mention they had more recolours. If these are finalized, I'm happy to get tr. red blades, but a gold Hulk chestplate is far less useful than a titanium metallic one Eris is the worst of the bunch, her colours are messed up and her head looks nothing like the minifig. Not to mention the weird axe - it looks too spindly and the connection of the head to the shaft just looks flimsy. That right angle looks so awkward. I know that's how axes are but something about it looks off to me. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Overall, I'm quite disappointed I see little attention put towards making Eris look feminine. I wasn't expecting a unique torso build or anything, but even her legs don't really feel too feminine. It's an awfully small pic, though, so I'll hold off my final opinions until we see clearer pics. The gorilla and raven sets look intense. Hope better pics don't show them to be less impressive than they appear here. Can't really judge Worriz because his head is at a bad angle for judging its shape. I see what look like some nice Dark Red shells, though. Quote
Shakar Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) Wow, tiny pic is tiny. The zoom on my mobile made it look bigger, and I spotted a few details. Eris's thigh shells look kinda big. 6M white shells? Stormer probably uses them too (on his lower legs). Seems like my prediction/wishful thinking about Worriz was right, he does use silver recolours of the new fur elements from Laval/Stormer/Frost Beast. He uses a printed shield too- neat. And of course, awesome dark red shells- I knew he'd be the one to include them. Gorzan's limbs look rather short like on Hulk, but I excepted it. I hope the titanium metallic chest is the final one, but I don't have much hope. Razar is probably the best looking (really curious about that clawed left hand), along Cragger (exposed shells, sure, but I love his torso build). He seems fairly faithful to the minifig, and he looks cool overall. But I want to say this- I've grown incredibly bored of the 2.0 torso. It looks cool when coupled with some stylish armour (the 2.0 chestplate for example), but on its own or coupled with an equally plain chestplate (like the Super Heroes chest) it looks rather boring. I'm not saying its use should be banned (Black Phantom made it work), but in 2013 it is WAY overused. All 4 Winter HF villains use it, at least Aquagon in Summer and now all 6 Chima Ultrabuilds. I know the Breakout torso isn't very organic, but you can pretend it's armour. Edited February 2, 2013 by Shakar Quote
Cahillrebel Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 The new HF torso would work if they made a chest piece add on to cover the hinge parts up. It gives the chest an armored look. We all know each tribe has metal armor so make it a torso piece. Quote
vexorian Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Yeah... I don't think I'll buy any of these. Maybe for the parts. Quote
DOTM Shockwave Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Yeah... I don't think I'll buy any of these. Maybe for the parts. I'll most likely be doing the same, the Lion (Laval?) and the Gator (Cragger?) don't look as good as they looked in the earlier photo. Quote
krystalKING Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 OH GOD NO These had better be prototypes, otherwise Eris will be sitting neglected on the shelves. I wouldn't buy her, I don't know anyone who would buy her looking like that. They should fix the axe and put some effort into making her look semi-feminine. (I know they can't make her look like her minifigure, but they should at least try.) Oh, and Razar looks awesome! Quote

There will some people who will probably buy any action figure set they think is cool-looking, regardless of whether they even know what the character is supposed to look like. On the other hand, given the target audience of Legends of Chima, I have a feeling that a lot of people familiar with the character would avoid buying Eris even if she looked very visibly feminine, just because she's a female character and thus quite likely "not as cool" to many six- to twelve-year-old boys. Making her not so visibly feminine could actually BOOST sales in this case, though in my personal opinion any female action figure set should at least look androgynous compared to the male characters in the same wave, if not outwardly feminine. To be honest, Eris's poorly-proportioned legs bother me more than anything else. Edited February 2, 2013 by Aanchir Quote

MakutaDreadscythe Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Oh man, Gorzan, what did they do to your banana ammo belt? Not to mention Laval and Cragger's visible downgrade from the previous pictures. Seriously LEGO, this is your blockbuster line this year, at least put some effort into your recolours and design. I was actually considering getting Laval for that foot design, now he just looks boring... Quote
Mesonak Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) Well. This is underwhelming. I'm holding on to the belief that these are prototypes, as unlikely as it is. I just can't realistically see them making new, unique molds for Cragger's swords, along with several unique recolors and interesting leg/feet designs, only to ditch them later on in the development process. Also, Gorzan's absence of a banana belt makes me cry a little inside. Eris is strange and woefully uninteresting, Worriz has some nice parts, and Razar actually looks pretty amazing in my opinion. Edited February 2, 2013 by Mesonak Quote
Dorek Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I think most of them look pretty neat, but I guess that's not the cool thing to do out here. Eris is the worst posed of the bunch, but dat axe piece... Gorzan, save the lack of Bannana bandolier, looks good. Quote
Cahillrebel Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 On the issue with Eris, I have one question to ask............how to they make Breez look like a female and then make Eris look like a guy? Were they trying to make her dress like on the minifigure? Quote
Mr. Gundam Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Hold on, can anyone confirm if these are prototypes or Final releases?? Cus its getting confusing what to expect from this line. Only disappointment is in the leg design taken out. Although, this does give me a design for the lesser known characters. I do have to admit, i'm not sure why some of you guys want the Eris to look fem. What would that look like exactly?? Also, didn't know the minifig wings were that big. Great choice on that. Axe pieces are kool too Quote
CabooseBM Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) Man, that sure is a tiny pic to judge the entire line and all of its faults with. Edited February 2, 2013 by CabooseBM Quote

Welcome to Eurobricks! No but seriously, I think most of them look pretty good. Though Laval's normal feet still disappoint me, but at least it's easy enough to go back to the "prototype" (if that's what it is) version. Quote

Were they trying to make her dress like on the minifigure? So if you think Breez looks like a female, then you must also think every other hero looks female. The literally have the same body form, so I don't see how Breez looks female... Quote
Shakar Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Wow, I forgot about the ammo belt. These look really incomplete. Toyfair has shown not completely finalized sets in the past (stickers acting as stand-ins for printing being a prime example), but I don't remember prototype-looking sets to this extent so, absurdly enough, maybe they are mostly final. Yet, as foolish as it sounds, I can't shake off the feeling these are prototypes, because they have many of the typical tratis. Maybe I should just accept it. Cragger's blade is the same as Frost Beast's in the show.. Quote
Bfahome Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 so I don't see how Breez looks female... Same way the 2001 Gali set looks female to people. Once people get used to a character being female, they suddenly see any minor differences as evidence of her gender. Apparently the four connectors on her hips made her hips "wider" (while ignoring Pohatu's hips), her inverted legs make her "thighs" larger (while ignoring Onua's identical setup), and the socket on her chest somehow translates to "boobs". Throw a little nostalgia into the mix, and suddenly Gali was the perfect representation of femininity. Even though without the story, you'd never know the gender difference. Quote
Mesonak Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) I dunno, I don't really think that my opinions would be different if this photo was any larger. As far as the design goes, these Chima figures are pretty solid, no real glaring faults. It's the mysterious and controversial "prototypes" that are stirring up all this controversy. Not really because these versions are bad, far from it. They're just quite a large downgrade from what we previously saw. Edited February 2, 2013 by Mesonak Quote

That's very true what you said, and I remembered I heard a kid say "Nathan Breez" in a store once... Quote
PenPlays Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 To put it simple. If they hadn't of put Natalie before Breez in the first wave of HF, to this day I would have thought of her as a boy. On subject. Razar is by far THE BEST out of all of these. Eris is such a disappointment. It should be very easy to design Equila out of her(Eris's head might have a printed on Tiara in the final version, however). Gorzan and Worriz are great as well, and here is hoping that Laval and Cragger will be finalized to look like the first pic we saw of them. If anyone finds any videos or more pics, we all will gladly appreciate it. Quote
Cahillrebel Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) I meant the way they made her. They used smalled armor pieces for Breez then the rest. They also gave her a more feminine face which help make her more female. I was only trying to say they made her look more female then Eris and should have took ideas from Breez's model a bit. Sorry if I caused confusion. Edited February 2, 2013 by Cahillrebel Quote
ZORK64 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Breez looked to me also slightly more feminine than the other characters, at least in the first wave, Breakout and Brain Attack (her 2.0 form though looked quite bulky and masculine). As I mentioned already at some other occasions, Breakout Breez looks fairly female to me mostly because she strongly reminds me of Samus Aran though. But it's also because of her sleek helmet. On that note, I didn't expect Gali to be a female - the first catalogues and such in Germany referred to Gali as a male, which also didn't helped that. The first Bionicle set I owned which actually looked female to me was Kiina. Back on topic: I agree on the weird shape of Eris' head. It looks like it got something like a chin. Also, it doesn't seem to split into three "spikes" at the back of her head like it does on the minifig. I do like her wings though (same goes for the raven guy - his head looks good though). I also like her axe. Just like to mention that Laval is missing his sword on this pic, so I wouldn't bet on them being final. As for the rest... I can't judge them properly form that tiny picture. Quote
Cahillrebel Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I wish they used the wide torso for the guy and made the narrow one Breez's torso. Quote
