Im a brickmaster. Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 There are no gaps! It's a story about world governments wanting official oversight on superhero activities (what with the whole SHIELD/Hydra thing kinda ruining what existed before), and how Steve and Tony each deal with those developments, along with others (like T'Challa, and whichever other hero-types appear in the film) I mean they have to take and apply the story to the MCU which leaves certain key roles (gaps) to be filled by existing characters. Peters role in the story was important because he started on one side, didnt like what he saw and switched. I'm just interested who will fill that role. Personally, I don't bother me none that spideys not going to be in it! Ya still get a good story Quote

Peter's role as a masked guy who unmasks and then switches sides does not exist. The movie story shares a name with the comic story, and shares the prominent roles of Tony & Steve, and that government(s) want superheroes to have accountability. That is it. There are no gaps. Nobody is taking Spidey's place, because Spidey's place isn't required. Quote

Gotta get the story from some where. Take it easy bro. Quote
The Legonater Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Yeah, I get what your saying. Like Age of Ultron is being called AoU just because...well it sounds cool. Gotta get the story from some where. Take it easy bro. A good example is Iron Man 3. It used elements of the Extremis arc, but did not adapt the arc itself in any way shape or form. Extremis wasn't even what Stark used for the Mark 42, it was... something else. That said, the Extremis parts of Iron Man 3 definitely could have been done better, but it's a good example of them taking the core essence of an arc without the whole thing. The core essence of Civil War is an issue divides the heroes and they come to blows. That, in the end, is what's necessary. Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I know they're doing well (Amazingly), I'm just saying that A: The MCU could be better with spidey and B: Civil war would be better if they had him. Oh, and I'm biased: I love spidey. Quote
Venkefedo Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 You can't know that Civil War would be better with Spidey, because you don't know the story of Civil War. The comic is irrelevant. Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Wrong! ...everything's better with spidey! Quote
Mr Man Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 There would be no problem integrating the current TAS into the MCU if Sony were to share him. The two universes are massively similar (power armour, intractable holograms, magic formulas and serums). No massive continuity errors (like someone in TAS saying aliens cant exist, despite New York). It would be nice just to have two Marvel universes (X-Men and MCU), even if Sony still owns Spider-Man it would be nice if they could share him, it would be mutually beneficial to the both. Quote

The Chosen Minifigure Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 (edited) In other news; what is thought of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doc Strange? Personally, I LOVED his Sherlock performance, and I think he's just barmy-yet-not-quite enough for Strange. I just hope this doesn't interfere with his performance as Sherlock! Zilcho Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 So what exactly happened to Fitz at the end of last season to make him like he is? (I stopped watching half way through the season) Quote
Steph 104th Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 (edited) @Zilcho he and Simmons were dropped out of a plane in a container type room by Ward to the bottom of the ocean. He sacrificed himself for her by opening the container and giving her the only air source. She swam him to the surface trying to save him, he lost his concious due to the lack of air causing severe trauma to his brain Edited November 3, 2014 by Steph 104th Quote
rodiziorobs Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 (edited) In other news; what is thought of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doc Strange? I think he'll do fine (if rumors are true), although I think Joaquin Phoenix would have done better. I was also looking forward to Ewan McGregor in the role. Truth be told, my top pick ever would be David Bowie...from about 20 years ago, before he looked old. Aw heck, even if they made it today, I'd still pay to see that. The Brigante Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Whilst I love Cumberbatch, he does seem to be risking overexposure. Not that I have a problem with that, I think he'lll do a wonderful job portraying Doc Strange, especially given his performances as Sherlock. As for the Spider/MCU debacle. I HOPE in the name of Odin that they sprt something out. Not just because Spidey made Civil War for me, but just cause I'd love to see Garfield alongside the likes of Evans and Downey Jr Quote
Mr Man Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 ...but just cause I'd love to see Garfield alongside the likes of Evans and Downey Jr Andrew Garfield is one of those actors in Marvel films I now cannot separate from the character, if played by a different actor (excusing flashbacks and prequels) they are just grating to me. The others are: Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Nicolas Cage, Tomas Jane, and Robert Downey Jr. Quote

The others are: Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Nicolas Cage, Tomas Jane, and Robert Downey Jr. Sir Patrick is partially responsible for making me the Marvel geek I am today, just the way he brought Xavier to the big screen was amazing. He was born to play Prof X . As for Cage though, and I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Ultron. Cage is just. Bleugh Quote
Mr Man Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Nicolas Cage? WHY? I really think he made a great Ghost Rider. I'm probably one of only 3 or so people on the planet that likes the two Ghost Rider films. The role does play massively to Cages talents, such as massively overacting and being hammy to the extreme. It's possible a reboot with a different tone and style would require a different type of actor, but for those films, Cage was the perfect choice (IMO obviously ). Quote

Not just because Spidey made Civil War for me, but just cause I'd love to see Garfield alongside the likes of Evans and Downey Jr Even if they did work something out, that doesn't mean Spidey would be involved in the MCU Civil War. Aside from Cap & Tony finding themselves on opposite sides of government oversight of superheroes, it doesn't seem likely to bear any resemblance to the comic. Quote
EdWebhead Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Cumberbatch confirmed! Not a big fan of this. He doesn't seem right for the part to me. But we'll see, Marvel has surprised us before. Quote
The Legonater Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Honestly, he seems perfect for the part as far as I'm concerned, I'm just worried about over-saturation. Cumberbatch is everywhere lately, and Marvel has thrived on relatively low-key actors. That said, I'm still excited. Quote
