rodiziorobs Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Best Roxxon reference in the MCU is in the one-shot A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer where Coulson beats up some thugs at a gas station. Pity they stopped making those Quote
EdWebhead Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 The plot for Spider-Man: Homecoming has supposedly leaked online. It's posted here on Reddit. Could be real, could be fake, so beware of possible spoilers!!! Sounds pretty neat if it turns out to be real. I really like the ideas in here. Quote

Could be real, could be fake, so beware of possible spoilers!!! Sounds pretty neat if it turns out to be real. I really like the ideas in here. Sounds so accurate to comics. And if it is real 'Homecoming' makes so much sense. Not sure how I feel about Vulture carrying the movie though. I see how it could work after reading, but to me I think there could be better villains to use. I'm not saying he shouldn't be in the film, just not the main villain Quote
Khscarymovie4 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 The cast for Thor Ragnarok has been announced along with the characters they are playing. Cate Blanchett as Hela Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie Karl Urban as Skurge Mark Ruffalo as Hulk Chris Hemsworth as Thor Tom Hiddleston as Loki Idris Elba as Heimdall and Anthony Hopkins as Odin. This is some concept art Quote
Ultron Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Amazing cast. It better be amazing...we also better get sets! I want all of those characters, especially Hela. Quote
NXS7 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 If Skurge is in the movie, it almost really confirms Enchantress, so out of these 9 characters, there's 4 villains (5 if Enchantress). It's gonna be epic. Also I love the idea of Goldblum as Grandmaster. I feel like maybe he could also appear in GOTG-V2 Quote

Sir Gareth Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 What's everyone's major gripe with Iron Man 3? The Mandarin plot-twist? Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 What's everyone's major gripe with Iron Man 3? The Mandarin plot-twist? For me, I was so excited when mandarin was announced to be the villain. Then I watched the movie, and they wasted the mandarin as a villain and Ben Kingsley. I was so hyped for the movie, but it turned out to be disappointing. That's just my opinion. Quote
NXS7 Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I thought he was amusing, but we need the Mandarin. Not only is he Tony's arch enemy, but he can bring something epic to the movies; Iron Man's technology vs the power of mystical energies Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) I enjoyed the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3, because for three years I have been bemused by frantic fan boys deriding the fact Marvel Studios pulled a fast one on them!!! :) I'd actually rank Iron Man 3 as one of my favorites. Both Thor films and the Incredible Hulk are on the bottom of my list (ironically I am excited for Thor 3 because it has the Hulk in it...) Still agree we should get the real Mandarin someday. Wasn't there a Marvel One Shot suggesting there is a real Mandarin hiding in the shadows still? Also I might not be a to criticize"comic fan boys" much longer... my first Marvel comic compilations just arrived in the mail today. Superior Iron Man Volume 1 was okay, but seriously the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Volume 1, she needs to be in the MCU. Like, now. Really. It would be another GOTG or Ant Man type character and we can use more of those! Edited May 26, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
Ultron Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 What's everyone's major gripe with Iron Man 3? The Mandarin plot-twist? I like Iron Man 3. I think the Trevor twist is brilliant and really says something about Americas fear of the west. That being said, the mandarin they gave us is not the villain we were promised and so I feel cheated. It would've been fine if Killian had been a villain worthy of replacing the actual Mandarin, but he wasn't. The final battle with him was lame. We honestly deserve a real 10-ringed Mandarin. Quote
Ceroknight Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 1. Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Captain America: Civil War 3. Avengers 4. Ant Man 5. Iron Man 6. Captain America 7. Avengers: Age of Ultron 8. Zilcho Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 1. Avengers - for me nothing can beat the magic of them all uniting in New York 2. CA: CW 3: GotG 4. CA:TWS 5. Ultron 6. Ant-man Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) Okay here is my list, from worst to best: 13.Thor the Dark World: (a snoozer from start to finish. Could have been improved with %100 more scenes with Loki, every scene he is in is genius) 12. The Incredible Hulk (Sorry Ed, but Mark Ruffalo played the Hulk way better...) 11. Thor (Better than the sequel, the fact though it was directed by a Shakespeare nut makes it feel to pompous at times though. Speaking of the director I had to see his version of Hamlet in High School once :P) 10. Captain America The First Avenger (I love the war scenes, the vintage feel, etc. But something just feels off with this movie, and I can't put my finger on it. I still genuinely enjoy it though.) 9. Iron Man 2 (A bit to derivative of the original. Still we finally got to see War Machine suit up here, and learned Howard Stark = Walt Disney. Yes the World's Fair/EPCOT tribute and the Richard Sherman song save a lot of the faults of this film. Also Tony Stark eating a donut, inside a giant donut, great humor there.) 8. Guardians of the Galaxy (I loved it, it's funny... but is it the MCU's best? IMHO, no. Even though I don't think its the best, it has given us millennials a new interest in 70's hit songs...) 7. Avengers Age of Ultron (Solid performance but no where near as great as the original Avengers.) 6. Iron Man 3 (This movie is a lot of fun and I still believe most of its criticism over the Mandarin reveal is kind of stupid. I respect that they found a way to dupe thousands of fans, and in a way a "fake YouTube terrorist" makes a lot of sense. Anyone remember all of Osama BinLaden's viral videos? Some people thought it was an actor right up to the day Seal Team 6 dragged his dead body out of his mansion. But what if it wasn't real and was an actor? That is the scenario Iron Man 3 does, and I appreciate its commentary. Oh also, it's Christmas.) 5. Ant-Man (Fun, lots of great stuff here. To sum up every wonderful thing here: Giant Thomas the Tank Engine crashing through a wall. And Luis, the "smoothie machine thief." Que the bongo drums) 4. Iron Man (The film that started it all!) 3. Captain America: Civil War (An emotional plot, some great fun, and lots of new characters introduced superbly) 2. The Avengers (Well balanced, entertaining. Probably will go down as one of the greatest super hero films ever) 1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Great plot twist "Hail Hydra" that was intense and impacted the MCU on all levels. Go watch The Winter Soldier, then go back and watch Agents of SHIELD to appreciate how grand that plot twist was. Also, "Before we begin, would anyone like off?") Khscarymovie4 Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I think in Iron Man 3 they should have called The Mandarin something else. That way they don't upset the fans and have a twist. If that make an Iron Man 4 they have to put The Mandarin in there, theirs not really anyone else Tony can fight. Quote
rodiziorobs Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 13. The Incredible Hulk Tbh, I only saw this once, so it could rank higher if I saw it again. I don't remember it being bad, but I don't remember it being good, either. 12: Avengers AoU A waste of characters--heroes and villains alike--and too much character sacrificed for plot convenience or cheap gags. There was no way Ultron could have been done justice in one movie, and he is severely neutered here. 11. IM3 There was a lot to like, but I just felt like the plot didn't hold together or that was too convenient for the story, like Tony's PTSD being a big deal until the plot needed it not to be. I liked the Mandarin twist great, but the end of the movie suffers from 3rd-act-villain-syndrome (3AVS): an exciting villain is reduced to snarls and easy defeat. 10. IM2 I love the first half, I love the middle, and I love Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer. Then the third act starts and lets down the entire movie. Major 3AVS. 9. GOTG I know I'm in the minority here, but I can't really rank it higher. There was nothing wrong (except for the typical 3AVS), but because of the fantastic nature of the universe it takes place in, every character spends what feels like too much time spouting exposition, and the movie relies on cheap jokes and nostalgia to hide the lack of character/development. It was fun, but not a whole lot of replay value for me. 8. Ant-Man I love that it didn't take itself seriously, and had lower, more personal stakes. However, I was never sold on most of the characters being more than actors: Hope, Cross, Hank, and to a lesser extent, Scott. For some reason, I just couldn't see past them trying to inhabit a role as opposed to actually being that character. While I don't think the version is bad, I would like to have seen the Wright version. Oh, and 3AVS. 7. Thor: The Dark World Like IM2 and IM3, there was a lot to like here--the production design of the other realms and of the Dark Elves in particular is the best in the MCU. However, major 3AVS (which actually persists from the first act on through), and wooden acting from Natalie Portman. These shortcomings are made up for by the ever-watchable rapport between Thor and Loki, and that scene where Chris Evans plays Loki pretending to be Captain America. 6. CA: Civil War after a lot of reflection, I have ranked this lower than my original rank. The movie is a lot of fun with tons of great moments, and the central conflict is well-explained and holds up well. I like that they don't just shake hands and are back to being buddies at the end. But I can't get past some character issues: It eats me up how Tony's whole motivation for supporting the Accords Is that he caused a kid's death during the battle with Ultron--a good kid who was just trying to so the right thing. His response? With the clock ticking, he flies around the world to go convince a kid to come with him to a battle. Like in IM3, Tony's emotions are only in play when the plot needs them to be. What about the rest of Team IM? Once BW heard Peter speak and realized he was a teenager, wouldn't she turn around to Stark and lay into him for his hypocrisy? "A kid, Stark? You brought a kid, here? Did he sign the accords? Is he even old enough to? Is he even old enough to drive?!" (At this point, Peter would chime in saying he had his learner's permit, and Stark would say, "shut up, kid, you're not helping!") She was most worried about using the Accords to try and improve the Avengers' public image, so wouldn't she protest that Stark's actions removed all their credibility by bringing an unauthorized minor to assist a sanctioned mission? She certainly would, make some remark about his incredible ego, and then walk over and join team Cap then and there. At this point, Rhodes would respond with an, "I don't know man, this doesn't seem right, bringing a kid into a fight like this", etc. Meanwhile, Vision would hem and haw about something and Panther would ditch the others and just go straight for Bucky's throat. As cool as the airport scene was, it bugs me how characters' likely reactions are suppressed just to show off a cool battle scene. And it is cool! It is a very fun segment, very enjoyable to watch. But it all seems kinda hollow now, given that the characters are tossed aside for the sake of a totally awesome yet incongruous story beat. Also, as much as I enjoyed seeing Spider-Man on the screen, it bugged me during the airport fight that even though he is just a kid, the adults--good guys--don't seem to have a problem beating him down, even Cap. The only one accused of pulling punches is Hawkeye, ad that's against BW. I blame Marvel's (or perhaps Sony's) overeagerness to have Spidey join the MCU. On the one hand it works great, but on the other it really throws things off. Also, when Tony first explains his motives for signing the Accords, wouldn't SW have spoken up? After all, her brother was also just a good kid trying to do what was right, yet Tony never gave two cents about that. Not to mention she already has a huge problem with him. It bothers, me how she is the most neutered character in the whole movie, with all her justified rage swept away and replaced with weepy eyes and sad glances. I still need to see it again. 5. Thor Again, I'm in the minority. There are things which it doesn't get right--Thor beating the Destroyer in 30 seconds, for example--but there is a lot that it does. Little things like the Hawkeye's introduction, the reduced presence of SHIELD in the plot (especially compared to IM2), and the spot-on casting across the board. It has a lot of replay value for me, so I rank it highly. Also the only MCU film with no 3AVS (unless you count Laufey, but it's clear from early in the movie that he's not the big bad). It's biggest flaw is that the event in it that should have huge, long-lasting effects, and which really makes the characters' decisions seem weighty and important--Thor destroying Bifrost--is completely undone by the movies that come after it (Avengers and TDW). 4. Iron Man Probably the only MCU movie that I wish I owned but don't. Perfect cast, perfect soundtrack, and just plain cool. I can't remember any flaws to it except for the 3AVS. 3. CA: The First Avenger My only complaint is that Red Skull starts out as a snarling vaudevillain, but since he is kind of a caricature of Nazi-dom (and, contrasted with the propagandist background Cap is shown in for much of the film) it kinda works. The other CA movies would not be so widely enjoyed if this film hadn't set all that up so well. 2. The Avengers Almost number one, but not quite; it doesn't quite have the nuanced plot or characters to top WS. Still, there are solid performances from everyone involved, everyone gets adequate screen time, and the movie ends with an awesome, long but not too long sequence in the battle of NY, where just as the stakes have gotten as high as you think they can, a nuke gets sent in. I particularly love the long tracking shot from hero to hero that ends with Hulk sucker-punching Thor. Still, some 3AVS here. 1. CA: Winter Soldier This one has a lot of the same kind of geek-out moments as The Avengers (I almost lost it when I realized it was Zola they were talking to), but has a more nuanced plot, and better development for most of the major characters--Steve and Natasha, especially. While The Avengers pulled off an amazing juggling act, this one keeps those balls in the air, and does it with so much finesse. With, you know, a tiny bit of 3AVS. Quote
