The Legonater Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Anyone know anything about who's gonna be the female lead in Winter Soldier? Both Black Widow and Agent Hill are confirmed returning for Winter Soldier. Quote

Praiter Yed Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 More info on X-Men: Days of Future Past here. Bryan Singer confirms that they will be dropping another F-bomb ! I'm no prude, if a show comes on TV with a warning of bad language, scenes of a sexual nature and graphic violence I generally think; "this sounds good", but when it comes to PG rated movies I want to be able to take my kids to watch them! Also plot details and a new picture from The Wolverine here. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I agree, I don't think that language is necessary for a family film. Did the darker Nolan Batman trilogy use any of that? I don't recall, but I almost would say it didn't and that seemed more fitting than in x-men. I realize Wolverine did it so fans liked it, but it wasn't necessary. And I had to look it up to see when it happened in the movie. I wanted to forget that movie so I've blocked it out, but hopefully this new one will make it worthwhile. Quote

Marvelfan120 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 not sure if there's been any talk about the upcoming (hopefully/most likely) Avengers spin off series "SHIELD" in this thread, but it will be part of the MCU so I thought I'd post some links for the un/underinformed who might be interested... this is a nice summation as to the reasons to be most excited about the project http://www.tvequals.com/2013/02/04/5-reasons-why-you-should-already-be-excited-about-the-s-h-i-e-l-d-pilot/ and here is the official facebook page for any who want keep up on new developments https://www.facebook.com/SHIELD as for twitter, I've heard there is something there too but I don't like twitter. Sam892 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 A lot of Amazing Spider-man 2 rumours at the moment. Not only do we have electro and Rhino, but apparently Black cat and Venom will be involved aswell. 4 villains seem a bit overkill to me. Quote

I think Rhino and Black Cat would work well with the whole animal thing after Lizard. Venom, I hope they save for a whole film rather than sharing a role with another villain. Quote

Leo604 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Looks like Marvel finally came up with a female lead for TWS: http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=36374 Quote
just2good Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Hmm, interesting. I'm not too familiar with her, but my family likes Revenge, so we'll see how that turns out. Quote

Bobsy Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Not a fan of X-Men? :P In general, not really - as a franchise it's always seemed a little overly-emo to me, a little too self-important - and of course the rise of Wolverine as the most cynical of marketing tools to sell comics over the years makes my blood boil. With the films I got some enjoyment out of X2, but the first one fell flat for me and as for X3... it's honestly one of the least enjoyable cinema experiences I've ever had. A truly awful script and story, terrible characters, terrible dialogue - every scene with Phoenix and Wolverine in it was just painful, and the way Cyclops was just thrown out in the first act.... god, it actually makes me angry even to think about it. The Wolverine film was stupid through and through, although I'd by lying if I didn't take some pleasure from laughing at how absurd it all was - but I did the same with The Fantastic Four, and that was at least fun. First Class... I'll admit, I liked that one, mostly because it didn't carry around all the baggage from the previous films, and was free to actually explore and have fun with the concept and characters. And yes, I'm afraid I laughed out loud at the Wolverine cameo. Er, anyway. I do like Peter Dinklage. He was great in Prince Caspian. Quote

First Class was the first X-Men movie I watched, so the original trilogy kind of seemed...meh compared to that. Origins wasn't too great either, especially with how they completely bombed Deadpool (the 2014 film better be good). I'm kind of looking forward to Days of Future Past, as long as they keep the same formula from First Class albeit now with a different set of villains. Quote
def Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 <snip> I've never heard a single person defend the first or third X-Men film, much less Wolverine. They all tend to lean on X-2, and personally, as a lifelong X-Men fan, I didn't much care for it either, except for a few key scenes of the movie. The black leather just symbolises something bad. First Class was the first to really embrace the comic's roots, and was by far the best (to me) which makes me optimistic for the next one. Hopefully Singer is mostly free of studio notes on how to make the most popular comic series of all time "marketable." Quote

I had no exact problem with 1 or Wolverine, I've never really read the comics so complains about murdering the character of Deadpool, didn't mean anything to me. Number 3 suffered far worse than any of the others for me. Quote
TenorPenny Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 First Class didn't embrace anything, in my opinion, but a very flimsy idea which was never present in the original comics. It made up a bunch of stuff and tossed into the mix some of the worst villains ever seen in a superhero film. Quote
def Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 First Class didn't embrace anything, in my opinion, but a very flimsy idea which was never present in the original comics. It made up a bunch of stuff and tossed into the mix some of the worst villains ever seen in a superhero film. It embraced: -the costumes, rather than make a winking joke about them like in X-Men -the powers, and went with freaky ones, not trying to make them 'real' -the themes, and the angst. The conversations between Magneto, Mystique, and Beast were more 'X-Men' than anything in all the original films. All the young mutants have to decide how they feel about being different. In all the original movies, only that one scene in X-2, where Bobby 'comes out' touches on it. -that Magneto was a Nazi-hunter at one point, in X-Men 161... It was great to see this fleshed out in the movie, giving solid motive to his character development, rather than lip-service. It wasn't based on a story, but then again, none of the movies were (Magneto creates a mutant-making device? Stryker is a military man who made Wolverine? ). All the movies (and all comic-movies) are a pastiche of the comics, and you have to take the good and the bad there. Whatever complaints I have about X-2, the fact that Lady Deathstrike didn't get her powers from the inter-dimensional six-armed sorceress Spiral like in the comics, wasn't one of them. When X-Men 1 came out, super-hero movies weren't really a genre, and Batman (the first Burton one) had succeeded by being more 'realistic,' so I get why they did what they did, but I like First Class for believing that people could like a full-on comic style movie... and they did! Kevin Bacon was a good villain, but I don't think the rest of his crew were good at all. Worst ever? I'll save terms like that for Internet commenters I'll have to disagree. But we all have different experiences with comics, and different eras Quote

January Jones was the only villain that really annoyed me; she's good eye candy but was just...gah. Quote
Mr Man Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I wonder if Days of Future Past will have a Fantastic Four cameo? Considering they are now in the same continuity. Quote
