Tanma Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Just curious, I started a new MCU story, would anyone be interested in it? It isn't an adaptation of anything from the comics as far as I know, but it is something I feel comics ought to have done by now. Quote

Tanma Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 (edited) Okay, once I have my editor/sister looks it over I will post it. Just curious, what does Sony have the rights to exactly? I know they have Spider-Man and his rogues, but do they have the clones? The ultimate clones? What about both Spider-Girls? Do they just have May, or do they also have Anya? Anyone know? Spider-Man Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 From my knowledge on it I think they own the rights to Spidey and ALL Spidey related villains and characters such as Mary Jane, Norman Osborn, Aunt May, etc. Quote

I know they have Spider-Man and his rogues, but do they have the clones? The ultimate clones? What about both Spider-Girls? Do they just have May, or do they also have Anya? Anyone know? They would have elements of the clone saga, and most of the things that appear at least in the main comics. The main exception is Jessica Drew Spider Woman. As I said somewhere earlier, that character was created specifically to be a separate license and to prevent a media licensee from getting a piece of it. (The same thing with She Hulk). With Spider Woman Marvel was always very very careful to not involve the character with the Spiderman books. if anything she is more tied to SHIELD traditionally or the Avengers in the modern era. So Sony could not use that character without a separate agreement with Marvel. Now the Ultimate Comics Spider Girl is another matter. They could probably use the "female clone of Peter Parker" story, but they would not be able to name her Jessica Drew. Quote
Spider-Man Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Did anybody follow the live blog last night about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D? I meant to follow it but something came up They were hinting at releasing some of the names of heroes to appear in the show! Quote

Spider-Man Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I did. I didn't see any names. And you can read over the blog here. Thanks for that link...seemed like a waste of a promoting opportunity every answer was basically, "if you don't know about it already, then we can't say anything." Quote
Faefrost Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Thanks for that link...seemed like a waste of a promoting opportunity every answer was basically, "if you don't know about it already, then we can't say anything." A shame. Although we can probably fairly safely guess a few strong contenders. The safe bet is the black kid in the hoodie seen in the first trailer is Luke Cage. If so we can hope that Danny Rand / Iron Fist is lurking around. Also would not rule out Misty Knight and Colleen Wing (Daughters of the Dragon) or Shiang Chi. The big point being these are all very easy and inexpensive heroes to do for episodic television. You don't need to spend a gazillion $$$ on FX or elaborate costuming to get a good result. They are very street level. Given SHIELD maybe Jessica Drew/ Spider Woman? She Hulk?, Doc Samson (continuing his story from the Hulk), maybe Matt Murdock as someone's Lawyer? Given what glimpses we have seen of the overall story I can't help but think that the Runaways would be a good fit. (They've been talking about wanting to do a Runaways movie, but not knowing how to make it work or fit in. And a TV story arc might be a compromise.) Quote
Tanma Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Okay, my new story is up, tell me what you think, just don't break my spirit. Didn't know there were talks to do a Runaway movie, sounds interesting. I never really read the books, though I read the crossovers with Young Avengers and Avengers Academy. Quote
Haltiamieli Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 The safe bet is the black kid in the hoodie seen in the first trailer is Luke Cage. I'm not at all well-versed in superhero comics and have no idea of who's Luke Cage (or most of the others you mentioned), but having followed some news on the series I think this theory has been debunked: "So I’m going to say Luke Cage, and you’re going to say..." "I’m going to say that’s an interesting Marvel character, but no." Well, who knows for sure of course. Sometimes producers are rather devious and may mislead us in many ways. Quote
The Legonater Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Thor 2 trailer: I'm still anticipating TWS more, but this is looking to be pretty interesting. Quote
Vindicare Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Wolverine. Definitely better than Origins, light years. Typical Marvel movie, lots of action dusted with comedy. The fight scenes, for the most part, were awesome. Not so much a fan of how they portrayed Silver Samurai, seems to be a trend(Mandarin...) Hopefully they stop that. 9.99/10 See it. Quote

Well since Harada was also the Silver Samurai in the comics, and Shingen being his father in the comics, only makes sense to connect Yashida to the Silver Samurai as well. -Omi Quote

I didn't realize till I looked into his origin how that family was tied to him. I meant more along the lines of it being a huge cyborg type Samuari as opposed to a person in armor. Is the movie one accurate to another universe Samurai? I didn't like the way Electro looked in ASM2, then someone pointed out that's more or less his Ultimate look. Quote
Omicron Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 . Is the movie one accurate to another universe Samurai? I didn't like the way Electro looked in ASM2, then someone pointed out that's more or less his Ultimate look. More or less. Marvel has stated that the main series of movies are set in an alternate Marvel Universe (the Disney MCU in one and the X-Men/Fantastic Four in another) parallel to the comics. The Wolverine I see is being based moreso along the lines of the Marvel anime with connections to the comics and cartoon. -Omi Quote

"I’m going to say that’s an interesting Marvel character, but no." Well, who knows for sure of course. Sometimes producers are rather devious and may mislead us in many ways. Luke Cage is one of Marvel's oldest and best liked black super heroes. He's also known as Power Man. He is best known partnered with Iron Fist as Heroes for Hire. He primary power is un breakable skin. He is functionally invulnerable with some heightened strength. Style wise he is kind of Marvel's "Blacksploitation" era character from the early 70's taking a bit of styling and such from sources such as Richard Roundtree's classic Shaft. Marvel had a deep love of B movie inspired themes in the 70's with this, Kung Fu stuff, Horror and Occult, etc. that managed to create some of their stranger yet most visually striking characters. (See: Ghost Rider). And that visual distinct styling is what has everyone assuming that this guy is Luke Cage. Cage's outfits traditionally include a certain color pallet centered around a certain unusual shade of yellow. (Normally his puffy open chested disco shirt). Now look at the scene where hoodie boy is jumping out of a window. Look at his pants. His color pallet is screaming Luke Cage. Assuming he is in fact someone from Marvel's existing stable of characters, the other likely candidate would be Elijah Bradley, The Patriot. A member of the Young Avengers. His powers are basically the same as Captain America's. Strength Speed Stamina increased overall toughness. The dude in the trailer is the right age for Eli. I would just think that given Eli's comics backstory they might prefer to hold him for a Captain America story. He would also work well with a tie to Nick Fury should they go that route. Although the verbal interplay about needing a Shield would be a huge clue that this might be Patriot. He uses one. Quote

I remember Mariko from the anime and Logan dressing like a hobo(movie wise sans the red leather jacket). Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 The new Thor 2 trailer looks good. I'm interested to see how dark this one gets in comparison to the original, and to other MCU films in general. After all, it is called The Dark World, and the trailer makes it even more obvious that Marvel are making this film into a darker film while still maintaining the comedy factor of all their films so far.
