Piranha Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 The Silver Samurai would have been a great Wolverine villain. If they actually used him. But the CGI generic robot we got instead felt like a truly bad script decision. Like the result of trying to merge two badly disjointed screenplays. I thought the adamantium Silver Samurai suit was actually a really good decision IMO. Like going from a more traditional Batmoblie to the Tumbler. Best not to think of it as a purist character, but a more modern rendition. In addition, in the comics the later Samurai suit was essentially robotic armor. I was thinking more about how he just chopped of his claws. Total bun slap to the comics. His powers made his sword UNBREAKABLE to Wolverines claws, not the ability to melt right through them! Well since the entire suit and sword was made out of adamantium and it wasn't utilizing the mutant power that the original character had, it was fairly believable a heated blade could cut through the same metal, i.e. diamond cutting a diamond. Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 (edited) Peyton Reed to direct Ant-Man: http://marvel.com/ne...marvels_ant-man Also an official synopsis: Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Sounds pretty interesting. I was merely curious about this before, but now I am starting to become quite excited for this film. Edited June 7, 2014 by Lord Rahl of Clannad Quote
Ultron Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I don't care what anyone says or how much anybody says this film will fail, I'm really excited for it! Especially if Evangeline Lilly will be playing Wasp....perfect choice. Quote
The Legonater Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I had heard rumours that it would be a heist movie, but this is the first confirmation. Interesting, I wonder how they'll pull this off. Quote
Moon_Knight Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Appears that Marvel's looking at Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy for Doctor Strange. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=101454 Cumberbatch is my no. 1 choice. Hardy has already been Bane and he's going to be Mad Max. I don't think we need to see him in another huge role. Bring on the Khan! Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 (edited) ^ Personally I'm not sure about either of those actors for Strange (frankly I think I'd want Benedict for Namor more than I would want him for Strange). At this stage, my ideal candidate for the role would be Pedro Pascal, who has most recently appeared in Game of Thrones as Oberyn Martell. To me, he definitely has the appearance for the role and has an air of arrogance and eccentricity about him in Game of Thrones. In any case, it will be interesting to see who Marvel cast as Doctor Strange; this is one I am desperate for them to get right, what with Doctor Strange being my favourite Marvel character. just2good Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Peyton Reed to direct Ant-Man: http://marvel.com/ne...marvels_ant-man Aw, I was hoping Joe Cornish would take over. Attack The Block was so good, and he's already working on the movie. Anywho, I'm not totally against the new director. Unlike many, I liked Yes Man and the Weird Al Show is a really... interesting... show, so I'm okay. I am very excited it will be a heist film, though. Quote

Oh wow, Pascal would be awesome! I agree with Cumberbatch though, I love him as an actor but I don't really see him being Strange, then again his acting could easily prove me wrong Quote
Faefrost Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Yeah. As much as I would love to see Cumberbatch as a Marvel regular, I'm just not seeing him as Strange. Now he would be phenomenal as the Avengers Black Knight, would he not? Quote
Moon_Knight Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 With the personality that he plays in Sherlock, I think he'd be the perfect cocky son of a gun surgeon that Doctor Strange is. I think Namor would be an excellent choice for Cumberbatch but with Universal Studios owning the rights, I'd rather see him with Marvel Studios. Quote

Faefrost Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The other big news regarding Ant-Man is the report that they got Adam McKay to rewrite the whole thing. The term apparently being used by those that have read the existing script or scripts is "un salvageable". Harsh given how long this thing has been cooking. Quote
Mr Man Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 but with Universal Studios owning the rights, I'd rather see him with Marvel Studios. Marvel has the rights for Namor back. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Marvel has the rights for Namor back. No, they don't. Here's the latest on a Namor film: http://collider.com/namor-movie/ Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 On the contrary, Marvel do have the rights back. Feige has said so himself: http://comicbook.com/blog/2014/05/25/namor-movie-rights-reportedly-back-at-marvel-studios/ Quote

Feige has said so himself: http://comicbook.com/blog/2014/05/25/namor-movie-rights-reportedly-back-at-marvel-studios/ Your article in no way states that Marvel has the rights to produce Namor films. It just speculates. Kevin Feige says in the article, "Hmm. My digging on both sides of the aisle revealed Namor at Marvel. I'll have to burrow deeper." He's not even sure. I'd love to be proved wrong though. The last thing I want Is Universal Pictures to turn Namor into an Ang Lee Hulk movie... Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 ^ Well, whatever the case with the rights of Namor, I wouldn't be too interested in a movie featuring him compared to other potential movie candidates that have not been confirmed as of yet. Of course, were Marvel Studios to make a film starring Namor, I would inevitably end up watching it at some point or other By the way, how long is it until SDCC (as all of phase 3 should hopefully be announced there)? SDCC is July 24-27 so under two months. Unless there are more than 4 movies leading up to Avengers 3 we already know all of the movies :/ Antman, Cap 3, Doctor Strange, and Thor 3. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 A Hulk sequel was talked about some time ago, with Feige saying it wouldn't happen until after Avengers 2 if I remember correctly. So that could be a possibility. Perhaps they've got some plans under wraps as well. With the new characters being introduced in Avengers, it will be interesting to see where they go in the future. They can't just introduce Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch without following up with them in one of the Phase 3 movies; or at least, I wouldn't think they'd do that. Granted, we haven't really seen Hulk or Hawkeye since the first Avengers, but Hawkeye doesn't really have much too him right now anyway so it's not too hard to bring him back in. As for Hulk, I know people love him but he's also kind of one note. I'm not sure I'd even want to see another stand-alone Hulk movie, even though I like Ruffalo in the role. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Of course, were Marvel Studios to make a film starring Namor, I would inevitably end up watching it at some point or other. I would love for Marvel to do a Golden Age Namor film, perhaps with a cameo (or even co-starring role) for Chris Evans as Cap. The First Avenger worked really well as a period film IMO, and it could be a neat way to introduce the Submariner as well. All speculation at this point, of course, as the studio heads themselves apparently don't even know where the rights lie. :-/ Quote

Faefrost Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 (edited) I would love to see a Golden Age Namor movie! A Namor vs the original Human Torch movie would be awesome. I don't think Fox owns the rights to the original Human Torch. I think it gets vague. Marvel has the rights to the original Human Torch character. In fact he appeared in Captain America First Avenger, albeit as a static cameo in a jar. But I think Fox has the rights to the name Human Torch. So they would have to call the Jim Hammond character something else if they were to use him. Oh one bit of cross platform cleverness that I have to give the overall MCU producers, that is really really subtle. So subtle it took a few viewings of Agents of SHIELD to pick up. But once you see it you realize it was an amazing trick of hiding the plot not just of AoS but also Cap 2 and the overall MCU in plain sight. Go look at Captain America the First Avenger. Take note of the Hydra Sub and the Hydra Bomb fighters. Note the distinctive design cues. The shape, the cockpits etc. Like most movie models and designs they are meant to be visually recognizable as "faction ships". "The bad guys stuff looks like this". Now look at Agent Garett's Supersonic Jet in Agents of SHIELD that appears on an off in the second half of the season. Look at the lines of it. The cockpit. The engines, etc. It's a Hydra plane. Cool, no? Now imagine what else might be buried in there somewhere? Edited June 9, 2014 by Faefrost Quote
Tanma Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 My Sempai A Wasp blog I follow suggests Oded Fehr for Dr. Strange. I'm not an expert on him, but I did enjoy him in the Mummy movies. On other matters I do like to think of the Golden Aged Human Torch active in the MCU, if only to help fill in the timeline from Captain America to Iron Man. If nothing else they could call him the Torch. Quote
