K-Nut Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I actually love the new Hawkeye outfit. I really didn't like his Avengers outfit and love this one. Is it like confirmed that someone dies in AoU? Is that what all this death questioning is? Not AoU, but I think Steve should die in the end of Cap 3, with Bucky taking over. I think Whedon said he wanted someone to die so the stakes seem real. After Coulson and Pepper and Loki and Fury and Groot... If someone does die in AoU, I wouldn't be surprised if it were Thor (whose "death" would be a set-up for Thor 3 and--fingers crossed--an eventual Surtur appearance). I certainly hope not. People dying but coming back to life has gotten old in these films. I'd put my money on one of the new guys (I honestly wouldn't be surprised if one of the twins died or if Vision did). Quote

K-Nut Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Not familiar with Surtur but how will killing Thor set up his appearance? Surtur is basically the destroyer of Asgard in the comics (I think he's like Satan in Norse Mythology, but don't hold me to that). Quote

Vision can't really die, and if he did, he would just be brought back since he's an android. Killing one of the twins is also unlikely, why introduce them to kill them off? I'll be pissed if this happens. Surtur is basically the destroyer of Asgard in the comics (I think he's like Satan in Norse Mythology, but don't hold me to that). Hm..so how would Thor be brought back to life? And how can they advertise for a Thor 3 without a Thor? They'd spoil it in trailers and set pictures so killing him would also be pointless. Quote

I doubt they'd kill Thor with all the stuff happening with both Asgard and Loki. If anyone dies then it will most likely be Warmachine, Black widow or Captain America. Although I wouldn't be suprised if they Kill all the Avengers and then resurrect them at the end with the time gem. Quote

His contract expires after Avengers 3 I think, so they could kill him off then and use Sebastian Stan as Cap (seeing as he has a 9 picture deal signed with Marvel). Quote
Masked Builder Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I'd be most comfortable losing Hawkeye. Though I could see it being Iron man too, didn't he sign for just one more movie? Then, say, Rhodey would take over the role. Quote

Hawkeye needs to have proper screentime before he dies. Avengers Hawkeye was not the proper characterization of witty, funny Clint Barton. Quote

Agreed. Though I don't like him as a character myself. (I do only know him from the movies though) Quote

I guess I'm mostly rooting for Surtur to show up because I am still waiting for that payoff from Earth's Mightiest Heroes, where Surtur was teased at the end of season 2...and then the series was cancelled. (I also realize that Thor dies in that series--incidentally, it is Ultron that kills him--and then Amora the Enchantress saves him.) My thoughts are that Thor dies fighting Ultron, but instead of going to Valhalla, he comes to in Muspelheim as a prisoner of Surtur, who has agreed with Loki to take Thor in exchange for Loki delivering Asgard. Loki has realized that he really just wants to destroy Asgard and that Thor is the biggest threat to that happening, so a deal with Surtur helps him do both, as well as gaining him a powerful ally for when Thanos comes calling. Anyway, a big part of the movie could then be Thor's escape from Surtur's control as he tries to save Asgard from the fire demons of Muspelheim. Think of Hercules' journey through the river Styx, except that Styx is guarded by a giant cosmic Balrog whose screen time would be significantly more than just a few seconds. How would they advertise a Thor 3 if he dies? An end-credits scene, of course (this is Marvel we're talking about). It would be of Thor waking up, looking at the inferno around him and Surtur looming over him, then says, "this is not Valhalla. By what power did you bring me here?" We see Surtur grin and reveal a green stone (the soul gem), which is what allowed him to intercept Thor on the way to Valhalla, and which also gives control over him--suddenly Thor's body goes rigid, his eyes go green and he cries out as the scene ends. Probably not, but eh, it could happen. Although I wouldn't be suprised if they kill all the Avengers and then resurrect them at the end with the time gem. A much more likely scenario, which would reveal yet another gem. But where did they get the time gem? To sum up: Hawkeye isn't going to die (in AoU), Black Widow won't, War Machine won't (pretty sure on both of those), Iron Man might (I really don't think he will), Hulk won't, and Coulson in isn't even in AoU. That leaves Thor, Falcon (they better not), the twins (who probably won't; would Whedon really have them introduced, change teams, and then die all in the same movie?), or Nick Fury. As I understand it, Samuel L. Jackson doesn't have many films left on his contract, so he could go, but at the same time, he has stated that he would be Fury as long as they want him to, and they already killed him off once, and we saw how that went. Not to mention they'll need him to cameo on AoS occasionally to keep that show alive. So to keep it to a main character, really only Thor Is left. After all, if Tony dies, what is there to stop them from bringing him back, á la Coulson? Only Thor's death would be something out of their control. They could always off a love interest--Jane or Pepper or Betty--but none of those would really be much of a loss, since Natalie Portman is easily the weakest link of the Thor movies, Pepper already died (or so we were led to believe, briefly) in IM3, and it seems like the MCU has kind of decided to look the other way when it comes to The Incredible Hulk. Another secondary character could die, but the only one that comes to mind is Happy (which would seem like a repeat of IM3) or an Asgardian, which doesn't make sense for AoU. Wow, that was a long comment. Anyway, whether or not we ever get Surtur, if a major character eats it in AoU, it's either Tony or Thor. My money's on Thor. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 So then Thor would die, just to go to hell or something and reappear in the next Thor film? What HUGE stakes At the same time, a good writer/director like Whedon can make things emotionally impacting even without real stakes behind them. It is even possible for him to kill off one of the twins and have the audience care, despite them being introduced in this film. Coulson wasn't really much of a character before Avengers, and his 'death' was done well. Nobody has mentioned Maria Hill. Maybe she's not in this movie? But if she is, I could easily see her dying. Faefrost Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Of course we may be barking up the wrong tree. Joss may be playing us. Technically he talks about something heartbreaking, and seems to imply death. But based on a few rumors I think he is being very very specific in how he says it. Major possible rumor based spoilers (and what is possibly a full list of upcoming movie names I think our heartbreak is Banner. Which is why they are building a Black Widow relationship. Rumor is near the end of AoU he may find himself sealed inside something and going on a one way trip. Oh and here are what are rumored to be the movie names. http://m.imgur.com/gallery/smljMkS It especially helps if you realize that GotG2 may partly involve the Planet Hulk storyline. And then note the second to last name. Granted a lot of this list does not feel real. Civil War does not seem a good fit for what should be Thanos, you would expect something "Infinity" related etc. Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 That rumoured movie name list image is completely fake. All of the unconfirmed names are just photoshopped versions of some of the others. That image has been circulating the internet for a while now, and is always confirmed as fake (which is no surprise, seeing as it originated from someone's Deviantart account). However, though the image itself is fake, that does not necessarily mean that the films listed are. Of course, even if the listed sequels happen they may not use those suggested names either. Frankly, I wouldn't read too much into anything from that list in the image. Quote
Ultron Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Plus James Gunn said he does not want Hulk to be in GotG 2 and was even mad when people mentioned that. GotG 2 will be about the guardians. Marvel has also stated they have no intention of doing a planet hulk movie, which is understandable seeing as how it would have to be entirely CGI and there'd be no Bruce Banner, only Hulk. Quote
rodiziorobs Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Erik Selvig is in AoU. He's a character we have seen almost as much as Coulson now. Ah, I had forgotten Selvig. Okay, then: if its a major character, I still say Thor; if its a secondary character, then it could easily be Selvig. As far as the stuff you spoiler-tagged, I don't see it happening in the MCU as we know it, unless it lasts until a Phase 4 (post-Thanos). More likely, it could be the core story after the current MCU ends and they decide to reboot, but even then I think something like Secret Invasion is more likely (and awesome). Vindicare Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Can you more knowledgable comic folks help straighten this out for me. After GotG I was looking up the Infinity Gems to learn more about them. I came across 2 photos with differing labels. Is it that theyre different per Universe(s)? Or have they changed over the years? K-Nut Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) Space-Purple Mind-Blue Soul-Green Reality-Yellow Time-Orange Power-Red That is the correct list for the 616 universe I believe. However, these don't correspond with the MCU gems I think. James Gunn has stated that the Purple Gem featured in GotG is the Power Gem and that the Tesseract is the Space Gem, whereas I don't believe it is technically an infinity stone in the comics. I believe they also stated that the Aether featured in Thor TDW was the Reality Gem as well. I don't know why they're changing up all the colors, but it seems they may be. Sam892 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) Ye so far in the MCU it's. Power- purple ( GotG ) stated by Gunn Space- blue ( Avengers, cap 1 ) stated by Feige Reality- red ( Thor 2 ) stated by Feige And if Loki's Staff is the Mind gem then mind is Cyan. So if the staff does have an infinity gem then it's 4/6. Edited August 31, 2014 by Sam892 Quote

Yup that's what it was. Just a typo. I also believe (in 616) that Adam Warlock has the Soul Gem on his forehead, so if they somehow went that route with the MCU, that could make GotG 2 very interesting. Quote

If the speculation with the credit scenes from Thor: Dark World & GotG proves correct, that could very well be what happens. Beyond him being a founding member of the Guardians, I don't know much about Warlock. Does it seem like the MCU is picking from a certain universe or from multiple to build their universe? Do we know for sure? Quote
