Leaving the Croise behind Nessa followed the rest of the party to the northern part of the city. 'Watch out, my little girl. Your next fights will not be as easy as the first ones.' "These next attacks will probably be harder. We have to be prepared for that", Nessa said to her companions after listening to her mother again.

Amma tries to start another conversation. Walking next to the other Heroes, she says: "I wonder where all the inhabitants if this nice little town are. Are they too afraid to take a fork and fight on our side? Or are they all vanished? The what would we fight for? The freedom of the remaining dozen? What do you think?

Too bad that we didn't find someone yet who could guide us and tell us some facts while we are changing our positions."

Meanwhile Amma picks up some fruits from the ground and bites in one, not knowing how it will taste.

"If they are wisely enough, they left their land after the beginning of this siege. There is no reason to stay or to fight and risk their lives for nothing." Nessa replied to Amma. 'It is always worth fighting for the good, for your homeland... for your family. You should know that...', her mother's voice wispered in her head.

This was odd. Why did her mother talked to her, why now? Confused Nessa looked around. Perhaps the dwarf had put a spell on her. 'No, she didn't foolish girl.'

Responding to Amma: "I think all the citizens of this city are or fled from the city at the start of the siege or they are hidden in their house. A guide to help us could be a good idea but I think it is better that civilians stay safe in their house far from the battle, they could become a hindrance for us.

I have a question for you, my lady Amma: you always think with his stomach???? I know that dwarf eat a lot but in the middle of a battle I think it is ... inappropriate."

After that Alexander tries to dig the ground in search of treasure.

Amma replies calmly to Nessa: "So you say, it is better to flee than to fight? I used to share these thoughts, but I know better now! Where do you go, where is your place, ehat do you stand for, if you just leave? Everything will be taken from you! Another advice from an old lady. I am sure this old ... undead .. He will confirm that!"

<insert quote Alexander here>

Amma laughs out loud. "Ha! You say it is 'inappropriate' to regain strength by eating ... fruits ... but you keep plowing the ground all the way with your silly shovel? For what? For treasures? Greedy bast...

You keep amusing me, not to say 'annoying'!", yells Amma towards the male Elven Ranger in an anger.

Then she chomps another ... fruit.

"Everything HAS been taken from me! And I DIDN'T had a chance to fight for it." Nessa replied angrily. With a sad tone in her voice she continued: "So I made my choices and flew. There was nothing left to fight for." 'You really should listen to that wise old lady. Her advice is not of evil. You should trust her. You will need allies in the future you can rely on. So don't be silly and put down your pride and prejudice!'

Note to QM: I thought it was auto since it is equipped and not a consumable!? If not, of course - and for future reference, after each and before next battle Thalion will use his Cloack of Espionage! Thanks for the reminder/clarification.

Thalion was too busy worrying about the incoming Croise forces to pay any attention to the conversation his companions were having. He hurried ahead of them and used his Cloack of Espionage to scout the area they were bound to, so he could come back afterwords and discuss the plan of attack before they engage the enemy.

QM Note; You're right, it's not a consumable. But I think you have to clarify anyways. (Maybe because some battles you may be low on time. )

Understood!

Thalion returns and speaks to the party, "All right everyone, here's what we are looking at: (see the post above for info on enemies). Now, as for the plan of attack, I suggest that Dreyrugr takes on Commander, and the rest of us to divide the remaining archers so that every one of them is engaged by at least one of us; A - Alexander, B - me, C - Nessa, D - Amma. Janek can help any one of us or even attack the Commander if he wishes. Do you agree?"

"You do need to stand up for what's important to you but even then isn't it better to flee and live another day if things are hopeless. But sometimes even when it's hopeless you do still need to stay and fight." Dreyrugr started reminiscing on the time he was still human.

"Now, as for the plan of attack, I suggest that Dreyrugr takes on Commander, and the rest of us to divide the remaining archers so that every one of them is engaged by at least one of us; A - Alexander, B - me, C - Nessa, D - Amma. "Sounds like a good plan."

Basically our first fight but much harder. Looking at the damage potential even I have to go back row. :cry_sad:

When arriving in battle Dreyrugr will attack the Croise Commander from the back row.

Thalion pondered on his own speech, "Hmmmm... Thinking about it now - what happens if, like in the last similar battle we had, the commander encourages his allies? We would be unable to engage them without a great risk of being defeated. Maybe we should leave him alone for the first part of the battle, until we deal with the archers. Then we can fully concentrate on him."

Posted (edited)

:sadnew:"I am willing to fight, too. But can't you wait until we arrive in the North? Perhaps we find some useful items on the way..."

Amma peers on the sides of the path if she can find something useful, or valuable or tasty. To Thalion she says:

"How long will it take to eliminate the Archers? We don't have battle supplies (like mead or nostrum) and are not that powerful, that we could finish them off in three rounds, I think.

It would be good to see no other Archers arriving, but I am not sure if we can deal so many free hits from the Croise Commander! "

[edit]

Seeing that there is actually a Charis Guard escorting them, Amma asks him: "Is there still a blacksmith around in this city? Somewhere in the underground? Maybe we could meet him on our way now or later. Perhaps we could get better equipment for our fight against the Croisé units."

Looking in her purse, Amma realizes that she would be reliant on the financial support of her teammates to buy shiny new stuff.

Also, Wedge09, you find no treasure. A town street probably wouldn't have anything.

"A blacksmith? I'll go check. I'll be back after the battle, there is little time. Are you ready for battle?"

Posted (edited)

"No one knows how much time it will take to defeat anyone mistress Stigveladi. With lady Luck on our side we could be done in two to three turns, otherwise it would be more. While it is true that we don't have much supplies., having them is no guarantee of winning, it just gives a much better chance. For someone claiming to be so old you show a lack of respect for your opponent (or wisdom) in saying they are "not that powerful". If nothing else, they are more powerful then you, and should their Commander rally all of them, they would be even more powerful and dangerous."

Hearing the others so eager to go into battle half-prepared Thalion sighed, "I guess... We are ready."

OOC: Free hits from Croise commander are 8 damage in front row, 4 in the back - you do the math, but I wager we can survive quite a lot of them.

OOC: Yes. Thalion and Dreygur can survive three each, not taking into account that there is a good chance that either of them will take damage in the first rounds. But I have no problem trying this strategy at first. If it fails we can still attack the Commander. (I am a naysayer / pessimist, so I believe that we won't take too many Archers down before we must attack the Commander and even then we will roll some SD, calling more Archers. Nevertheless, it's better to try this, than to start from the worst point at the beginning, I guess.)

And please keep in mind that both, Amma and me, don't have any battle experience despite from this quest.

"Who, do you think, is half prepared, Thalion? Should we do something to prepare?"

"At least you are of half size", Nessa groused.
