Sariel is a master creator, and if you were to listen to anyone it should be him. However to make different funiture you should sometimes go against the grain. I really like the idea of bikes, but was never able to build them to work as powered vehicles cause they just fall over. Oh btw didn't know that the RC receiver had a build in servo, kinda made my day :D

Aye, that it does! The grey axle hole at the front is the steering, and apparently, it has 7 steering positions ( 3 left, 3 right, and straight) with 30 degrees (or so) total rotation each direction.

I'm not trying to be negative, just trying to spare you time and money spent on another bike that has no means of balancing out and whose proportions are blown by the RC unit. But then, you're the master of your time and money.

I have once spent a while trying to fit as much mechanics as possible into an average-sized motorbike model, and this is what I got. Full suspension, propulsion, lights and all of it closed inside the body, but no means of steering because of the lack of space. I'd say I have a good idea of what can and can't fit in a reasonably sized model.

Sariel, I certainly won't negate your advice and coments... but don't write me off as a dreamer just yet. Do you really think it is impossible?

I sincerely hope you'll prove me wrong :)

Ha! I knew you had some faith of possibility in the whole idea. I hope so too, it would be a world first to be proud of, even if it's apreciated by relatively few

Please, if you could make the time to photograph a buggy reciever from a few angles (top, side, front, rear) with some liftarms attached for measurement, I really would appreciate it.

Kierna,

The servo has better resolution than that with 7 left and 7 right positions and 90 degrees in either direction.

cheers

Sweeeeet! Just to clarify, you mean the RC buggy reciever unit right, not the Power Functions Servo motor?

I don't......... :classic:

Have you tried putting a M motor and a L in top of a rechargeable battery box length ways and have these going to the steering and drive?

No that's the new power function's servo which has 7 units of movement left and right.

@ Kierna: Since you continue to think that you can build a motorbike around the Lego RC Receiver unit, quit goofing around and buy one to see for yourself. There's only a few for sale right now on Bricklink -- it's the 6293c01 "Electric, RC Race Buggy Battery / Receiver Unit without Auxiliary Output" and it costs at least USD $20.

Maybe Mario Ferrari's RC Differential Drive idea would be useful:

I think it might be a success if you construct the bike with one or two buggy motors, they are fast and pretty strong. The body will contain the AAA battery box, the motor and IR pf unit, then for the steering you can construct a technic person on the bike having the steering motor to move his arms which will turn the bike as in real life. This idea might succeed because first of all the body can be constructed very precisely: there is room for suspension, and the body components are not so big. Secondly in my opinion it would look wierd to see a bike driving on its own, I think it would look much better with a simple built lego racer with a hand lever that would controll the steering. Good luck !

This, coming from the man with the astronomical post count!

I won't be spending any more money on lego for a while yet, I have a real bike to maintain, too.

@ Kierna: When you have been on this forum for over 3 years (helping folks like you), then maybe you can tell others of your failed experiment. Have a nice Zombie Armageddon day.

OK, the discussion was going along fine, there is no need for rude comments or for pressuring him to do anything. This is a discussion forum, if he takes 5 years to attempt this that's fine, and that's even if he decides to. It's up to him, he doesn't owe you anything. If you think it's a waste of time don't visit this thread.
