TheLegoDr Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I agree the more I look at it, the worse the hood looks. It was so smooth in the original CUUSOO set, which is very fitting for the design of the car. I guess the big thing here is just saying congratulations to the designer for their 1% commission. But it doesn't sound like a lot of people on here want to buy it. I guess we'll see how the numbers are after it has been out a while. Minecraft exploded, so we'll see what happens with this one. autobrick Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I was going to buy this at any cost, but if that's what it's going to look like, I'm going to have to pass on it. At this point, the only way I'll be buying it is if we get new Marty and Doc minifigs, but that seems unlikely. Quote
Paperballpark Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) ^^ The designers already said they would donate the 1% commission to the Michael J Fox Foundation. Edited June 22, 2013 by Paperballpark Quote
BigRedGoat Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) I'm with pretty much everyone else on here in saying the hood and windshield modifications look awful, but it looks like we get a flux capacitor sticker/printed tile at least. Edited June 22, 2013 by BigRedGoat Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I seem to recall when this first looked as though it was going to reach the 10K mark that people were saying how awful the design looked and how if it got through the process that the designers at LEGO would tidy it up and make it better. Well, like everyone else it appears they have done the opposite. I guess if it does not come with mini figures it will put a load of people off buying it as it looks dreadful from what we can see. I suppose when we get the official pictures and release information it may look better and we will know if we are getting the figures or not. I think it is looking like that will be the deciding factor as to whether this is a win or a fail. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I didn't know they were donating it to the Michael J. Fox foundation. That is awesome. Good for them. Almost makes me want to buy one then. Quote
just2good Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) I didn't know they were donating it to the Michael J. Fox foundation. That is awesome. Good for them. Almost makes me want to buy one then. I know, it definitely is one of the reasons I'm buying it! How awesome is it that money I spend on LEGO is going to a good cause. Michael J. Fox is personally supporting this set, so I don't see why it's so hard to include a Marty figure. I'm not sure if Christopher Llyod even knows about this set. Edited June 22, 2013 by just2good Quote
antp Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Funny, the photo on the left is actually the one I made from my 1:18th scale model from Sunstar Internet is a small world Original pic = http://www.antp.be/pic/miniatures/00000002.jpg I agree with those that are disappointed by that front. Long time ago a prototype in a video had a front like that. I was hoping it was just for a test... it seems not then Also the scale is too small for these big windscreen pillars. Quote
Another Brick In The Wall Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) Even the "other" version still languishing on Cuusoo looks better. The most likely explanations for why they wouldn't include figures in this set are either that they couldn't get a license to use the characters (either from Universal or from the actors involved if the actors need to give permission for their likeness to be used) or the cost to produce new figure designs (i.e. new head and torso prints) is too high (although on that last point they have produced torso designs before that have been produced in even smaller numbers than would be the case for the Cuusoo BTTF set). The production of BttF minifigs could have been done in a credible fashion with 80-90% of existing parts. (and i doubt the actors could have negotiated their likeness in BttF seperately.....in fact Crispin Glover (the actor who played George McFly in the 1st movie) took precisely this issue to court and lost, although a payment may be due is under the Screen Actor's collective bargaining agreement. BrickG Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Well I'll still buy it despite it being pretty ugly IF the thing comes with minifigures. It looks like it won't. That means it's junk. Ugly build without minfigures? Seriously? IF I was going to buy a minifigureless set it would have to be impressive. This is not. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I hate to be that guy, but that other one from CUUSOO looks simply amazing. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I wonder how TLG would change that one. Quote
shaggysanchez Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 What a letdown of a set that was on my must buy list. I will most likely still pick one up just because I love BTTF but I will now have to see the price and get a look at it in person before buying. I had planned to buy one regardless of price and possibly three so that I could moc the other two to match whichever movie they didn't base the set on. I am think one is my max at this point. I was never crazy about the original model but I saw plenty of potential in it. I never dreamed that Lego would make it look worse. I like that they added in some details but I really thought they would add a windshield just polish it up a bit. I can't even understand what they were thinking with that hood no part of the delorian has a stepped hood no idea how that was thought to be the best option. I can live without figs of Marty and Doc but it would be a real shame to not include them since they were a part of the set that was voted on and passed their review process. Quote
jonwil Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 If it comes with Minifigures, I will buy it no questions asked. Otherwise I will not and will put my money towards other things :) Quote
riversarl Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Seems almost identical to the preliminary build, stepped hood and all Although judging from the announcement vid there's still hope for figures! The 7-wide construction of the front of the car is really interesting; this is probably the first time an official product has been built at this scale. Quote
AncientDayz Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 (edited) I was SO looking forward to this set. In fact, I just took this picture today... ...however, like many here, this MUST BUY just turned to a PASS, and you can ask the wife, PASS was never in my vocabulary until now. I am definitely disappointed if this really is the final version. Edited June 23, 2013 by AncientDayz Quote

My thoughts exactly! I wanted to buy 3 and make multi movie variations.. Now I'm having mixed feelings. However! My new goal: I like the original Cuusoo model, so I'll probably be bricklinking the original one... That way, I still get what I wanted in the first place. It's a shame TLG made me wait so long to do something I could have done months ago. Edited June 23, 2013 by JayCal Quote
robuko Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Oh terrible! I really liked the original cuusoo submisson, this version is  ...however, like many here, this MUST BUY just turned to a PASS, and you can ask the wife, PASS was never in my vocabulary until now. I am definitely disappointed if this really is the final version. I'll wait until I see it in the bricks to reach that conclusion, but at this stage I am in agreement Quote
CopMike Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I wouldn´t discharge the possibility of minifigs being included in the set just yet. Quote
strangely Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That hood... I feel like there must be another way to smooth that out. Honestly though I'll buy it if it comes with minifigures. Otherwise I couldn't imagine buying this for more than $20. CUUSOO has not turned out to be what I hoped so far, it seems like disappointment after disappointment. Who knows though, maybe by July 18th I'll feel differently. Quote

Although discussion for another thread, Cuusoo lost me when they rejected Western Modular Town -- and it's only gonna get worse -- apart from the 30th anniversary Ghostbusters project and maybe Apollo 11, there's nothing interesting in the pipeline for next 24-36 months. Navy Trooper Fenson Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I think the hood is easily replaceable with the piece used in the submitted model. Apart from that they took everything that looked not quite right in the submitted model and made it more prominent. I think modding the hood could make the model work but without figs the set is missing the biggest reason for me to buy it. The way the design is now I would just have to get the wheels and could build it with my own parts collection. Quote
Faefrost Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 (edited) Could that horrible stepped hood be that way so you can swap in parts for the BttF 3 variant with the box of tubes and junk on the hood? It still seems a weird design decision. Is that large flat sloped light bley piece out of production or not available to use for the model? I think we may be jumping the gun about Minifigs. Lets wait and see what the actual set is. If it doesn't have any I will be disappointed and will probably skip it. But I want to see the actual set, not just a single weird calendar pic. Edited June 23, 2013 by Faefrost Quote
BrickG Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I don't think we're jumping the gun. Why the crap wouldn't they show minfigures? I've never seen them not do that in sets like this if they had them. Quote
