Super Goblin Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 ^That was my plan for the hood, I think that look will work for me Quote
CM4Sci Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I like that a lot more than the huge slope piece. Nice MOD! Also, tomorrow is the official release. -Sci Quote
Hulk_Smash Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I have one of these waiting for me at my local toy shop, but I cant get it for over two weeks till I next get paid! And I really want this damn thing! Quote
Paul Boratko Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Again, here's a "100% Lego-Legal" hood fix for the Cuusoo Delorean, plus you can do it almost entirely using just the parts that come with the set. I'm really surprised that the designers did not opt for this nice simple solution. Perhaps they can issue a "fix-it-kit" like they did for the Shuttle Adventure! This is a fantastic solution..! And of course when you alter it to the "Part 3" model, you would just alter the hood to how Lego had done it to add the gadgets to it... They probably just wanted to keep the modification somewhat simple between all 3 variations... Quote

I'm really surprised that the designers did not opt for this nice simple solution. Perhaps they can issue a "fix-it-kit" like they did for the Shuttle Adventure! Great idea! If you add an extra plate to the nose section and replace the 3 hole technic part with a 4 stud headlight brick you can eliminate that notch at the front of the hood. Quote
The Real Indiana Jones Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 @LaserVampire, Yes, It looks nicer with the front bumper a bit more forward... It would definitely be a super smart move for Lego to add an "Open Commentary Period", as a two-week window-of-time where they reveal their officially re-designed versions of the Cuusoo winners for a short time, when everyone can express their design quibbles, and point out simple errors like the "sheild" misspelling, and suggest various easy and "Lego-Legal" fixes like this for the DeLorean hood. For starters, it would be great for PR, getting maximum fan attention and community empowerment during the unveiling process... Plus it would be great for profits too, since everyone would end up feeling satisfied, the set would be nicer, and more people would buy it! It would also save them the time and money of issuing a new part or sticker just to correct a simple spelling error. And If the "Open Commentary Period" only lasted for two weeks or so, then they wouldn't have to worry about competitors stealing the design... especially considering the fact that the original version had already been openly posted on the Cuusoo site for years beforehand!! Who is willing to support such an idea? Can we get someone "in-the-loop" to suggest it directly to the Cuusoo Team? Or could we start a nice friendly "fan petition"? I am sure they would say yes to the idea..! Quote

They probably just wanted to keep the modification somewhat simple between all 3 variations... Ah, well it is super easy to swap that central 2x4 tile with a 2x4 plate... Then you can just attach the 1885-box-of-electronics to the hood normally, and it will lie at the same angle as the hood. And as for difficulty, it is even easier than swapping the 1985 license plate for the 2015 license plate on the rear bumper! =) Quote
just2good Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) Set is now up on USA S@H! -Sci Supposedly people are getting technical difficulties when ordering... Edited August 1, 2013 by just2good Quote
Pennas2000 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Supposedly people are getting technical difficulties when ordering... Like what? I ordered this morning and now I cant go to my orders page and check it's progress. Also havent received an email from lego confirming my order. I was only a little worried before. Now I'm really worried. Quote
BrickG Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) Technical difficulties... Well this sucks. I'm afraid to complete my order. The free shipping isn't even appearing. Nothing but standard shipping. Can't hasten it. Edited August 1, 2013 by BrickG Quote
Super Goblin Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Yeah same problem here. It says I qualify for free shipping but it won't let me choose it. Quote
AncientDayz Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I had the same issues on the ordering page, but I decided to go through with it anyway (the note on my page said that any promotions will still be applied if you qualified when ordering). Anyway, despite the technical problems, I just (finally) received my confirmation email, and the hot dog stand and free shipping were included (by the way, thanks LEGO for releasing the BTTF set 30 minutes early so I could grap the hot dog stand before the July 31 deadline)! Anyway, all that to say that despite the problems on the page, my order went through. Your call if you want to wait or not, but it seems like its working - just with a few hiccups. Quote
soundwarp Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 How do you make that alternate hood? What would I have to buy to mod mine into it? Quote
Cammo Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) My god 50 EUR? LEGO is getting greedy... Still going to purchase it though. Since I collect at least 1 set for each movie franchise they get rights to. Edited August 1, 2013 by Cammo Quote
BrickG Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 That's the first alternate hood I've liked. It keeps the form better than the first alternate hood. Quote
Jay_Em Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I'm definitely getting this, now that I've seen the hood can be modified easily enough. Quote
antp Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 My god 50 EUR? LEGO is getting greedy... Still going to purchase it though. Since I collect at least 1 set for each movie franchise they get rights to. Yes, that's a shame as it was announced around 35 € and knowing that neighbouring countries get it cheaper. I think I'll go to Lille buy it in the store there to spare 8 € (and spend more in the pick-a-brick wall...) Quote
AVCampos Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 The price varies: for example, for Portugal it's €39.99 Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Yep. I got my confirmation email. Yaaay! BTW, it's still for sale on US S@H. Quote
Super Goblin Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Got my order in for two and threw in some pick a bricks to get free shipping. Got the free mech but would have rather got the hotdog stand. Quote
Jay_Em Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 How limited will this set's availability be? If I want one, should I order right now, or can I wait another couple of months? Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I ordered it (and a few other sets I "needed" ) this morning, and I've gotten my confirmation email. I can't wait! Nice hood mod, Real Indy. I'm planning on doing something very similar. How limited will this set's availability be? If I want one, should I order right now, or can I wait another couple of months? I believe they'll keep making this one as long as it does well enough for them to do so, so I think you can wait. The main reason to buy one NOW NOW NOW would be, well, to have it NOW NOW NOW , and perhaps also to get the flux capacitor element with the error (assuming you want the misspelling, for some reason), since it appears LEGO is going to fix it somehow, which may mean doing a new version of the print and replacing the erroroneous element with the fixed one in future production runs (though I hasten to add that we don't know yet exactly what they're going to do, and we don't even know for sure that they will do something about it at all, but it appears likely). Floundie Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) Is it probable the set will become available at TRU, like the Minecraft one? EDIT: Oh! Nevermind! It is on the TRU website. But if it's only available online like the Minecraft set, then that's a shame. Edited August 1, 2013 by Floundie Quote
