Tobias_Jay Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) Oh very funny just2good The final model looks very detailed. I am also glad that the wheels flip down to give the flying effect. Very nice set overall. EDIT: Also worth pointing out that it looks like no figures will be included. A shame, but I wasn't expecting any figures anyway, but they would have been nice. Kez Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 It's about time! See what I did there?! Thanks for that, IMO I really like it, hopefully there will be some minifigures to coincide with it, I can't wait for the 18th July, also I hope for more pictures soon Quote
CM4Sci Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Hi-larious. The set looks decent. I'm also hoping for figures, but it doesn't look like it. :( -Sci Quote
jonwil Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 When this set was first announced, I put it on my "must have" list. I dont have a problem with the design of the car as such but if it doesn't have minifigs (something the original Cuusoo submission included and something people who voted for it probably expected the resulting set was going to include), its going to be a LOT harder to justify buying one... It may be that they couldn't get the right licenses from Universal (or the actors involved) to include minifigs or that the cost to produce the minifigs was too big (i.e. the one-off cost of producing new printed heads and torsos) Quote
Laservampire Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Am I the only person who thinks it looks awful? Quote
SteampunkDoc Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 The original version looks much cleaner and smoother, while the official version is more crowded and cluttered with all the extra details. Not sure which one is closer to the movie version, but they both have good points. Quote
just2good Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) Am I the only person who thinks it looks awful? Yeah, the more I look at this and the more I read Brickset Forums' thoughts on it, holy cajoli- this is an absolute disappointment. Here's some awesome comparison pictures Brickset Forums has provided: That hood, and the fact this may have no figures? Jeez. Edited June 22, 2013 by just2good Quote
Laservampire Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 The more I look at it, the more it looks like a bad MOC made by someone without enough parts. I really hope that isn't the final model. Quote
Ridge Montante Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 It's not what I was hoping for. But seeing that the Back to the Future series are my favorite movies I'll still be getting it. Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I agree with 'Brickdoctor' on the hood design, not good. Plus I've not seen a Cuusoo set with minifigs yet has anyone ? This should tells us all that if your Cuusoo project has minifigs in it......they won't be if yours gets the nod with the 10K. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I think I agree, very ugly. Not impressed at all. Granted, I didn't particularly care for the submitted model either. I think if I ever want to build it, then I will make my own MOC. I don't know if I can justify buying this. And I bet a lot of people did want figures to come with. It makes sense not to have any for a one-off set that has a limited release, but that would be a major selling point for sure. Quote
GRogall Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I'm also very disappointed with the version that LEGO has decided to bring out. They ruined all the thing I liked about the Cuusoo version! Just to make a model sturdier, so that kids can play with it, ruined it for most AFOL's........ why change the model in the first place? it was great the way it was! Quote
Hive Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Apart from the ruined hood, I actually think it's an improvement on the not-so-stellar original idea. I simply cannot fathom that neither one has an actual windshield, though. And without the minifigures, it loses too much. CUUSOO does not impress me. Quote
jonwil Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 The other question we dont know the answer to (and will probably never know) is how much say Universal (as owners of BTTF) had in the design of the set as we are getting it. Quote
TrumpetKing Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I am not a fan. I think it looks pretty horrible. Mostly the hood, though. I probably wouldn't have picked it up anyway, though. Quote
Hoschiebaer Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) i had it on my wanted list after they announced the production. but the fact that they have destroyed the clean look of the project car and that there maybe wont any minifugres scare me off now. the windshield looks kinda more angeld now but also to narrow. they should have stuck with the original cuuso design. as i can tell by the pictures the front is 2 studs narrower (4 1x1clear tiles and only 2 1x1 cheese slopes) which makes the whole care way to bulky imho. whats the point in the whole cuuso idea, when u dont get anything new in the set? (not 100% sure about the parts in the back of the car) i guess i could built it with my own parts and with the help bricklink in the right colors. edit: v_V yeah you are right its only 1 stud narrower - but the bumper looks stupid with one 2x1 cheese and one 1x1 Edited June 22, 2013 by Hoschiebaer Quote
Roger_Smith Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 The hood is complete train-wreck (or rather a car-wreck). Don't really get why they made the front section with the headlights 7-wide, when the overall car is still 8-wide as the original idea. The big flat slope piece was a near-perfect fit for the hood, so why create this ugly tiled monstrosity of a hood instead of just using it? The windshield and door area also looks worse than in the Cuusoo idea. That one wasn't angled enough, the Lego one is angled too much. That may also be the reason why there may be no minifigures included - it doesn't look as if you'd be able to fit two minifigs inside the car... Quote
CMP Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 They couldn't be bothered to even slope the hood? Quote
tafkatb Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Plus I've not seen a Cuusoo set with minifigs yet has anyone ? Hayabusa included a minifig of J. Kawaguchi - granted, made entirely of already-existing parts. He wasn't featured on the main box art (just the 1:1 scale image on top), so I wouldn't completely rule out figs in this one. Quote
Lance Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I really hope there are figs in this. It looks like the model can fit minifigures, so I don't see why they would leave Doc and Marty out.... Quote
jonwil Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) The most likely explanations for why they wouldn't include figures in this set are either that they couldn't get a license to use the characters (either from Universal or from the actors involved if the actors need to give permission for their likeness to be used) or the cost to produce new figure designs (i.e. new head and torso prints) is too high (although on that last point they have produced torso designs before that have been produced in even smaller numbers than would be the case for the Cuusoo BTTF set). Once the "official announcement" is made, hopefully we can get an answer from TLG as to why the minifigs were not included in the set and what that means for minifigs in future Cuusoo sets (e.g. the Ghostbusters guys in the Ghostbusters set if that gets to 10k) I think the real answer will be when we hear about the results of the next review and they tell us if the "Space Troopers" set will be produced or not (and if not,a bit about why not) Edited June 22, 2013 by jonwil Quote
