Zepher Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) And what exactly has Johnny done for friends? Why was Johnny even here if Johnny will run from a winning battle? Cronk supposes whatever it was, that Johnny must have gotten payment up front. And Zane... So Zane does not believe in Chaos but would use it as excuse to leave? Don't hide behind flawed logic to justify fear. It does Zane no service. Before Zane goes, heed Cronk's warning. Souls are not meant to share a single body. There is a reason that beings are born with but one. Cronk would have thought that experience with Court would have been proof enough for a smart being to avoid body sharing at all costs. Cronk hopes that Zane will have friends left in the difficult days ahead. Zane may need some. "You think Nyx wants or needs me to protect her? I'm doubtful there, Cronk." "I was here because it was the safest place in the city- but with Bennetton dead and the Gray Wizard gone, sounds like not being in the city is safer yet!" "It isn't fear, there just isn't anything to be gained here. And I don't keep friends- just folks who have the same needs as me." "You're leaving.. me? After.. everything? You felt it too, you must have. Together, in the void. We're the same - we're linked, we both felt it!" She feels the fire, no, the passion, once more and the rest of the world fades away. "Think of what we could do! Think of what we could be together! Side by side, can you not see?! You said you'd stay, you'd help. Stay with me, please. Stand by me, as I would stand by you. Fight with me, please. Just think of how incredible we could be! Think of what we could achieve together!" "You said you'd stay with me." "Never said a word about sticking around. I said you could come with me, and you still can, just meet me down at the docks within the half an hour. Though I doubt you will, and I don't particularly want you to. You've got to finish your fight because that's what you want to do. But I do intend to see you again, Nyx. If there's ever a baddie you can't take down on your own, and you've got a gold or two to toss my way, I'd love to see you. Or, who knows, maybe next time we'll be trying to blow each other up again. Both would be fun." XX pats her roughly on the back and leans in to whisper in her ear. "Sphinx said you'd need those bombs. Don't waste them beforehand. And I mean it, Nyx. You stay alive, I want to see you again. We've got a long road ahead of us." "Adios, heroes! I hope you win and stuff, ya know?" "We are all rooting for you, more or less." The trio disappears down the road. The party barely has a chance to respond to the departure before a vision blossoms into their minds. They realize nearly instantly that they are looking through Wren's eyes. The party watches as she marches forth into a closed shop, the name "Shrooft's Scripts and Tomes" boarded up outside. Sphinx leads the way down a series of steps into the basement, and then unlocks a hidden door and the party continues to watch as they walk forth. Wren (and the party through extension) glances side to side and the heroes see an army of Chaos Beasts larger than they've ever seen before marching around and behind Wren. The party descends, alongside Wren, into the crypts. There they see the Gray Wizard standing bravely. "So you've come to stop me, Passion?" "My brother made a deal with me, saying I'd have to go with you when it was time. I am here, going with you. He didn't say, however, where we needed to go. So perhaps we'll go together into the jaws of Hel." "I think not. You want to see this summoning as badly as I do. As badly as your brother does, as badly as your sister does." "Perhaps for the passion yes. And to see what happens when the Grand Gods walk among mortals. But I will stop you on moral grounds. Bal and Triad are dead. You are a monster. Mortals are not supposed to live the length of Gods. You see too much." The Gray Wizards eyes are downcast. "You and I see the beauty and the sadness of the world quite clearly, Passion. You see my passion, and you want to know the result of it, be it good or bad. I think it is time we see something else together, my once mentor." Wren fires a single bolt of darkness at Passion without warning, and he collapses. Sphinx goes to pick him up as Wren opens a secret panel and turns to two the Chaos Beasts. "Destroy this place once we have left. Make sure none can follow." She hands them a high number of Bomb XXs before she steps inside the panel. Ahead of her is a dark stone staircase descending even further into darkness. "Heroes, I let you see this to let you know the end is here. You cannot follow me. You are stranded. It has been fun, but next time I see you, I shall be a goddess, or I shall be dead... and you shall never see me again at all." As abruptly as it started, the vision cuts out. The heroes stumble, and blink, and are greeted by Felton and Vipera. "Time is short. There are five spires left. You must go close as many of them as possible while I attempt to find another entrance to the temple." <Of the five, three are poorly defended. The first is at the embassy, and will make the summon more powerful. The second is at the docks, and will give it more defense. The third is at the Glass Blowers, and will make it more robust. A small team may be able to deal with one of them.> "The other two are a little bit harder to deal with. Vonnetate is moving on a spire in the fish market that will give the summon the ability to cut through our shields. Meanwhile, Zee, insane with her rage and grief, most likely still commanded by the archdemons, is attempting to activate one that will drain our magical resources. She is at a Paladin Shrine, not a large one, but rather a small place of worship, built against the north wall of the city. We must prevent them as best we can. McColt, I have no doubt you'll want to fight Vonnetate. I too wish I could, though I must remain here with Vipera and attempt to locate another entrance to the temple. Unless we find one, all will be lost." "Cronk, divide us up and let's go bash some skulls in." "I like it when Phil- er- Victor, puts things nice and simple. Let's go get us some monster heads." <Nyx!! I am so glad you are alive!! I'm ready to get hopping!! I will fight by your side once more!> "I stay by your side, heroes. Though Bennetton is dead, I support you. It is Gnash's duty." "Vonnetate's time is now. Tell me who I have with me, Cronk." Edited February 9, 2013 by Zepher Quote
The Legonater Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I'm taking Vonnetate. I hated him in Haddon, and I hate him even more now. He's a menace to peace and order, and most of all - vengeance needs to be carried out. Quote
CMP Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Atramor's eyes swim as the vision fades. He listens closely to Felton's explanation, and turns to Cronk, resolve set in his face, making his intent plain at once. "I want Vonnetate." "I think Zee shouldn't too hard as long as long as Nyx is there. Those bombs will tear right through whatever army she's dug up this time." Quote
CMP Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 "Mate, I know ya' probably want his head as much as I do, but ya' kicked megablocks in the last fight with Zee. If ya' won't go with their party, could ya' at least give Alexis back the Cat 'O' Nine Tails so she could do it?" Quote
The Legonater Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Funny, I seem to remember being the one getting kicked the most. I supposed it wouldn't hurt for this to be in the hands of someone luckier either way. Alexis, catch! I toss her the Cat 'o' Nine Tails As I down a smelling salt, I turn to the group. So, are we planning on switching up equipment at all besides that? Quote
Flipz Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Arthur races back to the others, just in time to hear Felton's explanation. "There is not a Spire in the Hall? There must be something there, I know it as surely as I know my own face. Felton, speak to Byblos. Do not mention my name under any circumstances, but you must speak to him alone, and swear to keep his secrets. He will be able to help you. Trust me." "Meanwhile, my studies of the Door that Vonnetate's group opened have proven fruitful: I witnessed a vision of the Lady. Now is not the time to explain all that I have learned, but know this: she holds little love for Vonnetate, and plans to punish him for Triad's death." He turns to stare Atramor in the eye. "We cannot allow his Spire to fall, but so, too, we should be wary not to fall under Wren's punishment of her bloodthirsty lieutenant. I think it would be prudent for those at that Spire to posess the means to Flee. A Smoke Bomb or two at the least." "Neither may we allow Zee's Spire to fall. I have achieved a moment of utmost clarity: Whether Wren's plan succeeds or fails, the Zootists of this age must fall, and foremost among them is Zee. Wren is a far better God of Chaos for this world than Zoot, and his adherents must be dealt with either way if we wish this city to survive." "Of the smaller Spires, the one at the Embassy concerns me most, but I do not feel any of them warrant much attention. Much as I desire to visit the Glass-Blowers' for selfish reasons, these Spires' powers are miniscule compared to that which we face from the others." At last, Arthur spots Alexis' face amongst the gathered Heroes. "Alexis..." He rushes to her, wrapping her in his embrace, and kissing her deeply. He stops for a brief moment to speak. "The Lady offered me her advice...that which she wishes to be remembered by. 'When you want something, you seize it.' Wise words, as ever hers are. You are what I want, Alexis. Let's make the most of it, every moment, like it might be our last one. Because for Heroes like us, it very well might be." Arthur holds the Assassin tightly, his eyes glossy with tears of joy, and care, and love. Quote

Atramor, now would be a good time to prove that Triad did not die in vain." Haldor blinked at Arthur's sudden display. His demon Abraxas had been working with Zed and Sycamore Zeigfried long before Wren and Roderick ever got involved in Chaos. And don't tell me you've never heard of the Pandemonicon--those books were written ages ago, some of them were written just a couple of decades ago, while others date back before the Orcish Invasion. Zoot's an old, old threat, at the very least we'd be giving him a distraction to keep him occupied. Of course, we'll have to clean up whatever mess Wren leaves behind her in her ascention, but we'll have to do that whether she succeeds or fails. Besides, better the enemy you know than the one you don't...and even counting me, we know so, so very little about the Forbidden One's present activities..." "Personal reasons, matters of utility. I by no means believe that we need to go to this Spire; I simply stated that, IF we wanted to defend one of the three weak Spires, I'd prefer to defend that one, simply for the opportunity to do business there. If anything, I would prefer to go after Vonnetate--I owe him for what he did to Triad. I owe all of them that were involved in that affair." Arthur's gaze glowered darkly for a moment, but he took a deep breath and his anger abated. Those who knew him best could tell, he was growing stronger--but also learning control. "We all must fight for what we believe is right. I don't believe Wren is evil. Ruthless, yes, perhaps even beyond what is right or necessary, but, ultimate goal aside, it is hardly ground that Heroes have not trod on before--even some of us standing here now. But my destiny is here, and those I care about. I give you my word I will not interfere with this party's goals until I am assured that this city is safe from the reprecussions of Wren's plan. Fair?" Whether Wren succeeds or not, her time on the mortal plane has come to a close. And honestly, it's good we disagree about exactly how she leaves; after all, it wouldn't mean anything if we all played nice. Besides, it's more than likely the universe will pull a U'Vires and take the matter out of our hands anyway. Either way, our paths lie together for now, so squabbling about it is a waste of time--save it for the moment of truth. OK?" Quote

If he wanted to be on that road he would have stayed. She refuses to be hurt, and the feeling is more of disappointment. The man she wanted wasn't leaving; the man she wanted wasn't the man she thought he was. She looks over the bombs he'd left behind. Useful enough, she supposes, but mere trinkets really, and disposable - after all that was their purpose. What a waste of her damn time. Whatever. Wren, Zoot and whoever else might get in her way now had one seriously pissed off fiery battle mage to deal with. She turns to look at the others, glowering and sullen. You have met Abraxas before, as has Cronk; it was he who kidnapped Zelda Zeigfried long ago, on your second (Cronk's first) Quest for Heroica. Thothwick, of course, fought Mephisto at the Temple of Zoot just a few months ago. Marilith, to the best of my knowledge, remains sealed within that Temple, but of course her influence still spreads far further. I, myself, seem to have been favored by Abraxas; of the three who confronted me when I tried to drain the energy of the Spire, he was the one who rewarded me." "And they are why I think backing Wren over Zoot would be a good idea, looking at things from a larger perspective--but, in the interests in not provoking the Witch and the Paladin into saying something I'd never forgive them for, I'll only explain myself to those worth explaining to: those who ask my opinion." "As for Luck, Lady Nyx, I'd be happy to cast it upon you, but we are already running a bit short on Ether, and we still have battles--plural--ahead of us, and the Scroll costs a tremendous amount of Ether to use.
