Scorpiox Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Haldor looked at Vonnetate, and could see in the beast's eyes that he knew the end was near. It seemed admirable to go to one's death with so little fear, but all of this admiration was washed away by the cruelty and unecesary brutality that Vonnetate stood for. Silently, the nord executed his actions. First, he moved in to heal Dyric and himself, while also casting the spell of armour sundering on his foe Vonnetate, and the scroll of lucky on his ally Hoke. Maybe he didn't get the killing blow, and maybe it wasn't as....painless as he'd've liked. But he was dead. Triad's death had been avenged, at least...he stood, spending one last moment to heal Gnash, before taking a look around at the scene of the slaughter. "Let's get out of here." Quote
Pandora Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Nyx gratefully accepts the gem and the staff from Cronk, shivering slightly to their cold touch. She can just about hold them with her thin leather gloves over her hands. A new sensation she would have to get used to. She shrugs and stows them away, knowing they will surely be useful in time. With all the distracting enemies dead, she looks around the shrine in case there's anything interesting or useful (or indeed valuable), and taking care not to further desecrate a place that would be deemed important to two of her friends. She wonders if it's worth a prayer of thanks to, presumably, Ennoc, for the lack of dying or loss of limb. Quote
Flipz Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Arthur, too, searches the Shrine using his Magnifying Glass. When he finds the Door, he stares into it, looking for any clue he can glean from it as to Wren's current actions. Quote
Zepher Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) OoC: The bow should be WP:6. Sorry. Nyx prays at the shrine. Ennoc, perhaps knowing how many Paladin friends she has, gives her his blessing. She also spies a single gold piece in the fountain. It is up to her if she wants to steal it out or not (but that will be a flashback action, sorry! got to keep trucking) Arthur locates the spire, behind the statue, and stares into it, but the chaos behind it seems strangely stretched and dark. It is possible that Wren has already started to drain the spires powers into whatever she is summoning. Hoke, meanwhile, searches the site of the massacre of Pongcanis, but can find nothing of use. <Heroes, you are to report back to the Hall. Felton, Mallelio and I will meet you there. Felton says the time is now. Please hurry.> [iNTERLUDE - EUBRIC] “This brings me back, it truly does.” “…” “Yes, it’s been a thousand years since I was last here. How different it was back then. You should have seen the splendour of Nu Mercution, the City of Night, as the pale moonlight reflected from the black marble towers. The realm of the Moon Elves was strong in its darkness, but that also made it easily corrupted by the followers of Zoot. I got to witness it first hand as the advisor of the last king of Mercution.” “…” “It was the pinnacle of the worship of Zoot. Demons ran rampant on the streets of Nu Mercution, the temples of other gods were destroyed and those who defied the Zootists were destroyed without mercy. Possessed by an archdemon, the king allowed his realm to be devoured by the creatures of the void. Things got out of hand, and I decided to quit the scene. Just in time before the Wizard Priests of Ennon came blazing with their angels and trumpets, and sunk the entire kingdom of the Moon Elves under the waves. Only these islands remain as a memento of the lost realm.” “…” “You see now how it feels for me to be back here, after all these centuries? And it is all happening again. Zoot is trying to break through the veil and enter this world. But his vessel, this woman called Wren… Bah, nothing but an amateur! She is so blinded by her dedication to chaos that she does not see that she is being used. The demons want nothing but utter destruction. There is no place for mortals in the Void.” “…” “She will fall, mark my words. When the time is right, I will show how it is done. No more hiding in the bushes, shunned by the world. It is nearly time I use the power I’ve collected to shape the world to my liking. And what better place to start from than the site of the city I once loved?” "..." [iNTERLUDE - CONCLUDED] The heroes arrive, en masse, in front of the gleaming hall. Mallelio leans heavily on his staff, and Vipera sits on Felton's shoulder. Felton stares at all of them with fierce eyes. "Hello, heroes. I think it is time that we end this once and for all. Do not you agree?" Felton wears a grin and says each word with flourish. "Ah, get on with it, will ya?" "Very well, old friend. The time for closing spires has past. Now, we must go kill Wren and whatever she has brought into this world. To do that, we must go to the temple. Unfortunately, we do not know where that temple is. Or rather, we did not know. I, however, have put together a few clues that have revealed to me where the temple is. Firstly, we went to go visit Byblos, who offered what help he could. There was, apparently, a temple in this city, long ago. It has since been lost to time, though he says that Thothwick visited it recently. This got me thinking about Drakencourt. All these old cities seem to have huge underground passages. It's how the villains there travelled. Lord Blackenord designed them, but perhaps he stole them from somewhere else. Vipera looked at the Spirit Pools under the city, and finally found the friend she was looking for." "HELLO HEROES. I AM THE GREAT DRAGON SMARAGDEA. VIPERA HAS TOLD ME OF YOUR PLIGHT, AND YOUR CAUSE. YOU ARE NOBLE, BUT I FEAR THE ONLY THING I COULD OFFER WAS THAT THERE WAS ONCE AN ENTRANCE TO THE TEMPLE NEAR ME. I DESTROYED IT SINCE THEN, BUT THE TEMPLE HIDES SOMEWHERE BELOW THE GREAT CITY." "But where below the city? I would be stumped, except Wren told us where long ago. She warned us. Heroica will fall, Zoot will rise. Do you remember, Cronk, Hans, Thothwick? It means that Heroica must fall for Zoot to rise, yes, but if we take it more literally... we need to go down. We need to find where Zoot will rise from. And that place is below Heroica Hall." The heroes are shocked. "We don't have the time to find another entrance. We need to go straight down." Felton leads the heroes inside the Hall. It is a surreal experience. A few heroes lounge about, but there is no time for them. Felton approaches Scheherazade. "What is it? What do you want?" she asks the heroes. "Do you have a basement?" asks Felton curtly. Scheherazade nods but eyes him hesitantly. "What's this about? Who are you? Why are you with the heroes?" "It's Wren," is all Felton says. Scheherazade, keeper of the Hall, the Orc who knows everyone who has passed through the doors... she just nods. If she is scared she doesn't show it, but her steps are quick as she leads the heroes and their friends down into the basement where huge cases of liquor are stored. The lighting is dim. She just nods to a corner. "Good luck," she says before disappearing into the gloom. "Well, let's get through this floor," Felton announces with a grin. CMP Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I knew it. I saw this day coming. Our months of slaying inanimate objects, all culminating in this one, epic battle. Who is Drainage Eli draining from? "Well, then," comments Atramor dryly, shuffling along behind the majority of the heroes. "I guess we're almost near the end. I guess Zee got was comin' for her? Vonnetate won't be whinin' about honor anymore anytime soon." Quote
UsernameMDM Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) "Gentlemen, if you don't mind." Hoke motions towards the casks, kegs and crates stacked into the corner. He begins to move them out of the way with the help of the heroes. He wipes his brow and unslings his pack from which he grabs his pickaxe and starts to break up the bare floor. (Seriously? It's a floor. Pickaxes and shovels should do just fine. BUT, if we REALLY have to fight this thing, how does counterstriking work? I'll take 1/3 level from a floor) In between swings and grunts, Hoke addresses Arthur. "I believe I borrowed this Topaz from you. Would you want to trade it for my Hollow Blade Dagger (WP:6)?" Zepher Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 I knew it. I saw this day coming. Our months of slaying inanimate objects, all culminating in this one, epic battle. Who is Drainage Eli draining from? This is actually the final battle of the quest. Drainage Eli drains from everyone. (Seriously? It's a floor. Pickaxes and shovels should do just fine. BUT, if we REALLY have to fight this thing, how does counterstriking work? I'll take 1/3 level from a floor) If you hit it, it hits you back. And the Hall has magical floors. Duh . Quote
