CorneliusMurdock Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Good work, friends. Alexis get Ether Core. Nyx and Hoke take tonics. Skrall, Thothwick, and Dyric get potion. All Heroica friends get 15 gold. Cronk is stumped about door. Perhaps throwing bodies of beasts through door might have affect. Cronk try that. Quote
Zepher Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 The party does various things. Arthur first digs in the ground and find 4 gold, most likely dropped by some silly drug salesman or something. His magnifying glass turns up a small gap in the stone pillar the Chaos Beasts were in front of. It appears to be a spire that the stone has been built around, but he can only hardly see it, it is so surrounded by stone. Atramor heals all those at low health, and Cronk distributes the loot. Cronk finds that the gap is too small for the bodies, and that the bodies themselves have dissolved, and so could not be thrown anywhere anyway. Noticed you thought it was the same earlier, this is a different building. ) The party begins to naturally divide into different groups as they walk. Poletad hops up on Nyx's shoulder as she and Cronk fall in beside Bennetton. "So, Cronk is it? How well do you know the city? Have you worked with the Town Watch before? The Gray Wizard? Can you tell me any better why you deputized those you did, or even about what we're up against? I'd like to have all the information available. I've put a lot of faith in your party, and I need to know what you think about them. Are there any of them that you think may be insubordinate?" Hans walks up to Arthur and Alexis and nods to both of them curtly. "Figure I should get to know the two of you. Arthur, think we met briefly in Dastan, fought a Chaos Beast or two, and Alexis, I saw you for a brief second in that Valley near Ennoc, can't properly recall the name. Anyway, figure if we're all to be trusting each other with our lives, we need to exchange a few words first. I ain't much of a thinker, but I know Wren's gotta die. I was just some poor kid in a poor town when she yanked me for the Arena, but she changed my life. You see evil, you kill it, right? Anyway, how'd the two of you get roped into all this madness?" McColt, meanwhile, trots up to Skrall, Dyric and Hoke. "Hello, comrades. I don't think I've seen any of the three of you since you helped to defend Haddon. I just wanted to again say thank you, and tell you that Haddon has flourished since you left. I have gotten to leave the safe walls of my town and travel the world a little. This is due to your efforts. I don't know much about the world, but I do know Heroica is a force of good, and I see you do good against evil. I am a simple man, and I am afraid I see the world as more black and white as all these other thinkers, such as Felton and the Gray Wizard, but I do wish to learn. What have your travels entailed since you left Haddon and my employ? Have you saved any other towns? What do you know about the grayness of the world? The hero Tesni taught me a little, and so did Arthur, but I'd like to hear from old comrades." Triad walks next to Atramor. "We have heard you say that you will kill Wren without remorse. We are pleased to hear that. We are afraid that some in the party may sympathize with her. We once loved Wren as a sister, and we still do, but we also know that she must die. She has chosen her path and committed to it. We respect that in anyone, but some people choose paths that must end in death. We have chosen our path, and it is to kill her. What path have you chosen, Atramor? We have heard the Gray Wizard talk of your pet. We do not know if it is to be trusted. Does it lead you down a path, or do you pick your path for yourself. We believe everyone must pick their own path, or will be destined to land somewhere they do not deserve, be it for better or worse." Gnash brings up the rear alongside Thothwick and Haldor. "Hello, you two. My name is Gnash. I don't think you have met me yet. Nor I you. I was slave once, but now I am free. Bennetton bought me out. He say I could be free, or Heroica, or Town Watch, but I was Town Watch to honor him. He buy many Orcs out of slavery. How is Heroica? I hear many things about it, not all good. Do you all work together like Town Watch, or do you fight? I hear you divided. Can't be good for fighting other when you fight with yourself." OoC: Some forced roleplay! Interact with your fellow walkers/the NPCs you've been paired with! I want the NPCs to grow as well. We'll continue for real tomorrowish! Quote
The Legonater Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Sir, with all do respect, I don't believe in grayness, not how Arthur does, anyways. Now, I realize you asked three questions, but believe me, my explanation shall answer all of them. First, though, we should go back a little. I was born in Duplovia. Did I ever tell you that? It's a beautiful city, built in the ruins of the first city of Duplovia, a place inhabited by giants of old. My family had a long reputation of being the bodyguards for the royal line. We were all trained in the ways of rogues so that we could easily track down any assassins or schemers against the throne. I was proud to be serving the king as I was. Those were amazing times. I remember my first assignment- I was tracking down a criminal named Sio Lezz. He wanted for theft of the Queen's valuables, and I was determined to stop him. When I found him, however, I found the strangest thing. He had exchanged the valuables for gold, of course, but he was using it to help charity. I was horribly conflicted. In the end I let him go with a warning, that next time we meet i would not be so gracious. Years later, everything changed. You see, the throne was usurped by a man named Simoral. King Simoral instantly changed everything- but one thing of note was the fact that he outlawed all rogues. He saw them as vile, disgusting creatures. That meant my family and I. We were punished. Horribly. They sent soldiers I had served with into the streets and captured everyone of value to us. They caught them and executed them in the most horrific ways possible, all before our eyes. That included my father, and someone I was... close to. The only one that escaped the massacre save my brother and me was a friend named Quelirro Nosi, who was a pikeman in the army. I was banished, stripped of everything but my clothes. I couldn't believe any of it. The very county I had served for had kicked me into the streets. That was the day I began to wonder truly about grayness. I began to think back to Lezz, and how the supposed criminal was doing right. Yet again, I was horribly conflicted. Indeed, I began to believe the whole world was turning grey before my eyes. That was when I wandered into Heroica. You see, Eubric was shattered and falling apart. I found at home there. As for Heroica... it was so different. Everyone had all these different backgrounds and stories, and yet there were all the same in a way. I can't explain it. Furthermore, this offered me a chance to help people again. I took the opportunity when I could. As I ventured, I found more and more that life was not as grey as I thought. There were characters who very clearly were black- like the Lady Wren, for example- and those who very clearly white- like Heroica, and I realized that maybe the world was black and white after all. This is where your other questions come in. You see, after the battle at Haddon, I was horrified. Even in my torture, I had not seen that much bloodshed. I was determined not to cause so much wanton violence again. You see, sir, that is why I never went to Daston with the others. I saw that things were going to become very messy, and I wanted no part in it. I am pleased to see things worked out without my assistance, though. Instead, I devoted myself to helping Eubric. In recent months I have helped discover the true nature of one of Eubric's leaders- a venture that took place back in Triad Park, actually- and assist a farmer in clearing out his fields. Both these acts pointed me towards a black-and-white world. I realized that this was a place that was in need, and I was determined to help it. That is why I've come back now, sir. I have come back to stop Wren's rampage and wanton violence once and for all. I am not a broken rogue from Duplovia anymore though, sir. I am now a Hero of Heroica, and an Assassin of the Light, at your service. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Poletad hops up on Nyx's shoulder as she and Cronk fall in beside Bennetton. Are there any of them that you think may be insubordinate?" Cronk has only recently come to Eubric. Cronk grew up in Goblonia far away. Eubric much different. Far fewer Orcs here for one thing. ... Cronk misses home. Cronk never got to say goodbye to Cronk's parents. Cronk worked for Town Watch briefly in matter about missing guards. Cronk and party did find good lead in case but Captain Patricia decided to end quest before friends could pursue further. Other friends here including Nyx went to pursue that lead later but Cronk has not heard how successful party was. Cronk was in party that found Gray Wizard and rescued rest of "Lost Party". Cronk does not know much about Cleric but Cronk has respect for cleric's wisdom. Cronk very much like friends Nyx and Skrall. Both have had experience leading parties. Nyx has much natural leadership talent to match Nyx's magical talent. Friend Skrall is good leader, too, but it seems to come from life experience. Skrall has learned to fend for self and friends in tough times. Cronk trust both. Friends may be all different in party but Cronk believes that all will remain united in fight against Wren. (Cronk makes sure only Bennetton can hear). Confidentially, Cronk think only one party member need close watching. When Cronk was in party that found Gray Wizard, Arthur was as well. Arthur has strange notions about Chaos and Wren's motives. It seem to Cronk that Arthur may be on top of fence and has not decided which side Arthur should jump to. Cronk worries that Wren may find way to make Arthur choose wrong path through persuasion or deceit. But Cronk think that even Arthur will not be much trouble in fight and can instead be great asset to friends' side. Quote
Flipz Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Hans walks up to Arthur and Alexis and nods to both of them curtly. Anyway, how'd the two of you get roped into all this madness?" "Yes, I seem to recall our friend Vipera whisking away half the party just when we needed them most. I was terrified; only the presence of you and Sir Poletad kept me from losing my nerve entirely. That old rag the two of you gave me serves me well to this day, actually." Arthur holds up his casting arm, and as his sleeve slides back the ends of the bandage fall loose, blowing gently in the breeze. He lowers his arm once more, not bothering to tuck in the strips of the cloth protruding from his glove. "See evil, kill it...a fair enough course of action, but there is a third step to the process. Remember. You must always remember what you fought, and why you fought it, lest you make the same mistakes. There is a saying among my people: 'He who fights monsters...may oft become one.' We are free to shape the world as we see fit, but we must be aware of our vision changing along the way. Visions, paths, even truths change over time, but if you find yourself fighting that which you once were, you are likely walking in circles, headed nowhere. Self-knowledge is key to any endeavor." "My lack of self-knowledge is why I am here. Had I been strong enough, confident in myself to stand up for the truths I had seen, I might have revolutionized my homeland--or at least, when I was banished, I would have deserved my fate, and at the very least would have been taking charge of it. But I allowed sentimentality to cloud my judgement, and my heart and my life were both broken by the woman I once loved--a woman who pursues and torments me to this day. It is my hope that we shall not encounter her, but if we are to gather all of my fellow Chaos-users to fight Wren, then I fear we must ask her aid as well. But if we must, I am ready. I've found new hope, new joy, new light in Alexis, and together we shall stave off the dark." Arthur looks at Alexis and gives her an endearing smile. He is different with her--lighter, freer, less careworn and serious. "At the very least, if we all screw up and Wren wins, the two of us'll be happy for however long we'll have left." Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 McColt, meanwhile, trots up to Skrall, Dyric and Hoke. The hero Tesni taught me a little, and so did Arthur, but I'd like to hear from old comrades." "McColt, good to finally have a chance to chat. It's good to hear ya've had a chance to see a bit of the world fer once. I assume ya left Haddon in safe hands?" Skrall accepted the potion and gold that were passed to him as they walked. "Yes, after we left Haddon, it was only a little bit before I found myself with some of our other comrades in Dastan stoppin' Wren from spreadin' her chaos there. Dyric is right, it was one of the bloodiest ventures I've ever participated in, we lost a lot of good folk over there. Don't know if ya'd remember the dragon we found in yer neck of the woods, but we ran into her over there as well. Turns out she was originally from Dastan and all that. Well once we wrapped everything up there, I took a brief job headin' to Strivvi for the Town Watch to track down some missin' guards. Our cover was blown early though and we had to book it back to Eubric real quick. I guess it was around that time we saw the note sayin' Wren was on her way," Skrall shrugged. "As far as this grayness that everyone seem's to be talkin' 'bout, I'm not sure what to think. You and I are a lot alike McColt, we have our job and we do it. We view somethin' as black or white 'cause that's how we've always been told it and that's it. This high flutin' talk of wishy washy grayness has my head in a tizzy and it seems like a way people are usin' to justify their actions in some way or keep from bein' held accountable in others." Skrall sighed, "I don't see how Wren can be wrong and right at the same time as some people seem to be sayin'. But there's alot more learned individuals in our company that could expound on all the theories and philosophies. I gave up on such deep thinkin' years ago." Quote
CMP Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Atramor glanced sideways at Triad, frowning at her words. Surprisingly, it actually took him quite a while to respond, his eyes narrowing and flickering between the sky and the ground. He failed to notice McCafferey had not returned to his shoulder after the battle, and was in fact trailing the group by foot on her own. The question was one he'd considered in his head, increasingly often as of late, but when faced with it...he still didn't know how to answer. "....My pet ain't my guide through life, no matter what crap she spews about fate and destiny. I'm not blind, she's tryin' to push me to...whatever the hell she's tryin' to push me to, but I'm not makin' my choices based on her advice. I don't know where she gets this stuff about forcing me towards some sort of goal, but she'll be damn well disappointed when I never end up there." He glared back over his shoulder, and mumbled. "Used to be my only friend in the world. Now she's just tryin' to control me." Atramor turned his head back to Triad as the party continued its walk towards the town watch building. "...If it comes down to it, don't worry. I'll make sure she won't screw us over in the end, one way or another. It's like you said. She's chosen her path; if it ends as sharply as Wren's, so be it." Professor Flitwick Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Gnash brings up the rear alongside Thothwick and Haldor. "Hello, you two. My name is Gnash. I don't think you have met me yet. Can't be good for fighting other when you fight with yourself." "Good to meet you, Mr. Gnash, I am Thothwick. My, my, Mr. Bennetton sounds like quite the hero! Heroica too has freed it's employees, though we're often held captive by a myriad of different... things. Yes, being a member of the Town Watch I dare say you'd hear quite a, how shall we say, biased opinion of Heroica. We operate by different codes, which often cause hostilities between our respective organisations. I'd say the lions share of the Heroes work alongside each other (and the law) amicably, although the few rotten apples they allow to join, which cause disruption from within and let Heroica slide into disrepute. I'm sure the Town Watch is much the same. I doubt all members of the Town Watch are as friendly as you, my good sir!" Quote

Alexis contemplated her response as Athur talks to Hans. Her past wasn't something she liked talking about, but she had to do what must be done. "Well let's see, my parents sent my over from across the sea to learn some life skills. I do not think that they had forseen me getting involved with men, but what happens happens. I first went and investigated a warehouse, and then I've done some odd jobs. Nothing to special. Fighting Wren has given me something to look forward to doing. She keeps making me relive my least favorite moments." Quote

"I went on a quest that seemed to have no purpose. So much so, that the employer stopped us and sent the party back to Heroica Hall. After that rather unfortunate misadventure, I was called home to some urgent matters that needed to be dealt with. As for this grayness, I do not care for the idea. There is black and white, right and wrong. It may take time to sort out, but it always comes out to black and white. I have not heard Arthur's take on the grayness, but I know Tesni's grayness is only the darkness boiling under the surface. In the end, I do not believe anything good can come of it." Quote

Haldor not-all-that-gently nudged Thothwick out of the way so that he could speak with the watchman. "Greetings, Gnash, the pleasure is mine. It is always a shame to hear that so many have had experiances like yours, it saddens me that this city is so far from perfect with all the potential that it has. But now you are part of the watch, you can help to make sure that others do not have to go through the horrors that you did. I have seen many examples of the way in which your race is treated on this so-called 'Free isle', and it is terrible indeed. But I have always endevoured to help those in dire situations, like you used to be. As you can probably tell, I am not from around here, so I know what it is like to be isolated in a new place, far from home and family. It is for this that I strive to make this city a better place, so that I can ensure that this place can mean a bright future for everyone." The nord paused to shoot an irritated glance at Thothwick, the embodiment of snobbishness. "Fight? No we do not fight amongst ourselves, the odd brawl, and training match maybe, but not in real to-the-death violence. We try and keep friends with each other, it makes for easy working. But as with all organisations, there are those who think themselves superior, who try and preach their clouded views onto others, who are ultimately not half as clever as they think they are. Gods, I hate people like that. But what of you, Gnash? How has your time in the watch been? Seen many interesting things, besides today, in your duties?" Quote
Pandora Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 "Thank you for the Tonic and the gold, Cronk." Nyx nods to her Party Leader, as they fall into step. She giggles a little as Poletad hops up, his hopping inadvertently tickling her ear. She just cannot resist the urge to tickle him back under the chin. "I know you're a brave warrior and a powerful healer Sir Poletad, but I hope you'll excuse me this little indulgence." she whispers to her companion, assuming he'll understand the sentiment in the tone of her voice. She doesn't know how to communicate, so just persists with chattering, hoping he'll pick up some Common. "Thank you also for the heal, you've always been so kind to me, but I have this Natural Respite thingy so I would guess you didn't spend any Ether on me after all." Whilst nattering away to Poletad, Nyx has heard catches of conversation between Cronk and Bennetton. "I should add Mr Bennetton that Cronk here is a fine leader. His heart is strong and true, and people listen to him. The same can be said for Skrall. I have had the pleasure of fighting side by side with both of them in the service of Heroica. They are good... beings, as Cronk might say, honest and forthright. I've worked with the Town Watch a few times before, both with Cronk and Skrall, and have always done so to the best of my ability, even if Captain Patricia didn't always appreciate our efforts. I expect at some point to return to Strivvi, once more to aid the Watch. Sorry, I know you didn't ask, I just thought I'd..... " She trails off, wondering if she's interrupted the conversation. OoC: Unfortunately I have 50 gold, not 70, as I started this quest with 35. Quote
