Zepher Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 OOC - If I have enough MP to enchant my shield, but not my sword, please increase the SP of my shield. Thanks. Yes sir! Bennetton listens intensively to both Cronk and Nyx, nodding vigorously the whole time. "Like I said, I've personally had nothing but good experiences with your organization. You're a bit rough around the edges, but honestly so is the Town Watch, so I hardly think we can hold it against you. I hope you find those guards in Strivvi, Nyx, I don't mind telling you a lost a friend or two over these. Maybe if time permits I'll be able to head on over with you. Purple and I have served together before, and I think he was one of your guides." "I don't mind you interjecting either, Nyx. Glad to hear you're a friend of the guard. All information you've got to offer is good for me. The more I know, the better. I don't know if you've ever seen a Guard be sworn in, but we do take an oath. I will be strong for my city, I will be smart for my city, I will protect my city, I will nurture my city, I will live for my city, I will die for my city." Bennetton's voice rings out strongly and proudly, and Gnash can be heard in the back of the band reciting it as well. "I take those words seriously. My cane is my strength, my knife," he flashes a small throwing knife, kept under his arm normally, "is my smarts. My leg and eye both protected and nurtured. My life is for my city, and my death..." Bennetton shows the heroes a small cyanide pill in his pocket. "Just thought I'd let you know, Heroica has some good eggs and bad eggs. The same goes for us. Some of us do take that oath and mean it. Patricia is one of them too." Poletad shoots out his tongue at a fly approvingly. "Aye, direction is important. It's funny, Felton has said it from time to time that Wren gave us somethin' to do, and I 'spose that's true in some ways. But I think Cronk says it better than anyone else. You see evil, you bash evil. I know your pasts are more complex, but I'm with you, Arthur. Enjoy what you've got when you've got it. That's the way I see life. If something is preventing you from being happy... you bash it." "We are glad to hear that you know where you are going, and that you have your convictions, Atramor. Your chicken is old in many ways, says the Gray Wizard. My race is also very old. So is the Gray Wizard. There are others. The Council of the Watchful Eye. Haroka. The Demons of Zoot. The Gods. We sometimes fear that the old foget that they must choose their paths just like everyone else." "Rest of City Watch alright. Bennetton takes good care of his men, and is very brave. I enjoy serving under him. Some of Gnash's fellow guards sometimes bother me, but I keep quiet. If someone do something wrong, Bennetton tells them off so I don't have to. Gnash mostly employed in keeping people of the Hovels happy. It is tough job, but Bennetton says it needs to be done. Gnash mostly like feeding the poor and stuff like that, but I sometimes has to break up fights. I have never had to fight beasts like that before. I am happy that some brave Heroica people are along. Gnash would have joined Heroica, but I thinks the City Watch better organization over all, on organizing side of things, you know?" McColt nods gravely as he listens to everyone's stories and thoughts. His reply is brief. "I agree with you, Skrall, Hoke. Things are black and white, and maybe the Gray is just an excuse. I have always served, and I have always followed the Gods. I worship Ennoc and Oleg just like all the others. The Grayness is just, sometimes, something for people to hide behind, and not take responsibility for their actions. Tesni did not seem dark to me, however. Perhaps the Grayness relates to the duty of others, and not to ours, and we just aren't meant to understand it. I will just do what I see needs doing, and always stay in what I view as the light. I am glad to hear that there are others who agree with that philosophy and don't get bogged down in all the middle ground. I am sure that I told you that my family has been in the Guard for as long back as I remember. I did my duty in Haddon, and when I learned there were other places that needed my help, I decided to do my duty elsewhere as well. Dyric, I am sorry to hear of your misfortune. If ever you return to your homeland and need help, I will assist you if I can, even if it's just giving you safe haven in Haddon for a single night. Those who do their duty and are punished must correct those wrongs." The heroes halt as their path is blocked... by some old familiar faces. "Atramor! Nyx, Hans, Poletad, Skrall and Cronk..." Mallelio seems overwhelmed by the friendly faces that greet him. "How are you all?" "Time for greetings later, son. Hello, heroes, friends, you know. It is, of course, good to see you." Phil gives a curt nod. "Aren't you supposed to be in Dastan being an Emperor or somethin'?" Phil grins. "I took an unannounced leave of absence. Ella told me to. Turns out there are more important things going on here. And I'd never miss a good fight, political leader or not." "Speaking of Ella, I have a note from her for Tarn. Atramor, is he around?" "Help our princess court later, Mallelio. We have pressing matters. Vipera has told us we have orders to collect you and head back to your base of operations. Apparently we've got some friends and information there." Vipera's words blossom into specific heroes' heads. "Master Skrall, Master Thothwick, Master Dyric, Mistress Nyx, particularly Master Hoke, I am much pleased to see you once more. We have much to do, but friends of Dragons are never forgotten, and I am also pleased when I meet you in our ways around the world." The heroes walk back to the City Watch Hovels Outpost. Gnash and Hans remain outside, ensuring no more unwanted Pongcanis attacks, and the rest march indoors to meet Felton, the Gray Wizard, and Johnny, who lounges happily in a corner. "Hello again, heroes. Felton and I have been doing some research while you've been gone. Johnny went and raided the Heroica Library." "He means that literally, don't you know. Couldn't find Bybillion anywhere, so I just took some readings I thought might be important and what not." "Yes, we'll have to have a talk about that at some point. Regardless, we have discovered four more spires. Two of them we are fairly sure Wren does not know of. Most spires set our a small pulse in the Ethereal Plane and Spirit Pools, but neither I nor Vipera can sense them. Felton has, correctly I believe, suggested that Sycamore Zeigfried may have some how hidden them from detection for use in her plans before she was vanquished. It is an edge we have... but also unfortunately makes things a little more dangerous. We can monitor the other spires we know of to see if they appear to be opening. These two have no way of being monitored unless we station someone there who we can maintain mental contact with." Triad and Mallelio both raise their hands before anyone else can act. "I will go and protect one. I don't know if I'll be much use in combat anyway, so if I can serve a purpose without fighting, I will happily do that." "We would like to see Wren fall, but if we can save ourselves from fighting her for as long as possible, that would please us. It will be painful. If we face it once, at the end, that will give us more peace of mind." "Very well. Now, I am told by Bennetton that you had trouble closing the Chaos Gate. That is because they cannot be closed. We, however, believe that Wren is in a rush. The longer she acts in the city, the more attention she will attract, and she does not want that. We believe she will only attempt to open each spire once. Once thwarted, we may assume each spire safe. Which brings me to my next point. Two more spires are showing increased activity. It is almost like they are anticipating her coming to them, if she has not already arrived. The first spire is located inside a Hinckwell Store on Sungold Hill. This spire will give whatever Wren is planning to summon more protection when it arrives. The second spire is built into the walls of a small Shrine to Mercutio slightly north of here. We believe that spire will make the beast healthier should it arrive. Since Wren is moving on both of them at once, you must move on them both at once as well." "I must remain here. I have seen what we're against, and I will surely do more coordinating then fighting. My fighting days, for the most part, are over. Gnash will still go with you. I will also give this Order of Bennetton seal to Cronk. City Watch will comply with you if you show it to them, or if you have Gnash with you." Bennetton turns to Phil. "If you truly are an Emperor of Dastan, it may be best for you to remain here in the safety of our building as well." "Are you kidding?! I came all this way to fight the Lady Wren, not sit in some dusty building. Cronk, I'm going with you." "Very well. Cronk, divide up your troops and get a move on. Time is wasting." OoC: You have the party PLUS Poletad, Hans, Gnash, McColt and Phil to divi up! Feel free to talk to any of the NPCs in the building before you all go your separate ways! Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Skrall reached out with his mind toward the dragon even though he shivered at the near naked feeling that accompanied the experience, "It is good to see you as well Vipera. I take it that you shall be assisting in the relaying of communications back here at our headquarters?" Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 "It's good to see the Dragons are with us once more. Regardless, it is good to see you again, friend. How is Dastan?" Quote

UsernameMDM Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Although a bit larger than the last time he saw her, Hoke recognized Vipera at once. "Well met my friend! I trust your journeys have been well and your people are once again safe and thriving? Do tell me of your adventures!" Hoke said in his mind as he held his arm out for Vipera to rest on. Quote
Flipz Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 "Triad, Gray Wizard, my question may seem irrelevant, but my curiosity drives me to ask...why have you not availed yourselves of the Training Room of Heroica? One of our Veterans, the Copper Fox, stands more than willing to teach us in new skills--it is the reason I have the skills of both a Mage and a Rogue, why Alexis may summon spirits of the elements, why Master Rone can kill at a single touch. Was this chance to train not available when you were last active in Heroica, or have you simply deemed it unnecessary?" "Gray Wizard, if I may ask, what would the Door we just defended have done, had we failed to defend it?" He frowns as the two targetted Doors are mentioned. "I cannot in good conscience aid the Hinckwells while other options exist. I will go to the Shrine to Mercuito. Perhaps my more Rougueish side will aid me there." Arthur lowers his voice and continues to speak only to the Gray Wizard. "Is there...a way you could teach some of us to recognize these pulses? It may give us a head start in pursuing Wren's forces while we are divided. And where exactly are these 'hidden' doors located? If any are hidden among the Zeigfrieds' territory...well, as the Emperor recieved guidance from Ella to seek us out, a similar source has revealed to me that I must seek the Zeigfrieds. I would aid Triad or our new Dastanian friend in their guard if that is the case." Noting the stranger's eyes resting on him, Arthur gestures Mallelio to join him and the Gray Wizard. He extends his hand. "I believe we saw each other only briefly before the Battle of Drakencourt, as you were exiting on a mission of your own while we Heroes entered the palace. I am Arthur Justus Regulus VII, but you can call me Arthur. I was one of the Heroes fighting the Rogue Lion invasion on behalf of Emperor Alandri, and one of the four to fight the Chaos Beasts Wren sent to capture the princess. Ranger Harkenshire is not with us, but the other two Heroes who fought that fight are: Atramor, who you already seem to know, and Sir Cronk, the Paladin of Ennoc." Arthur indicates the other two Heroes, then turns back to Mallelio. "By your garb, I estimate you are a man of some importance to the Empire, but I don't think we were ever formally introduced. Let us rectify that error. You are...?" Quote
CMP Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 "Aye. Always seems like they're the ones trying to manipulate the paths of others," agreed Atramor with a nod, as they party filed back towards the town watch building. The group halted, however; forcing his way to the front, he grinned when he came upon two familiar faces. "Great to have 'ya with us, Phil, Mallelio. Tarn's off fightin' ninjas or somethin', but if 'ya want I could bring him that note next time I see him." The group then headed inside, where once again the Gray Wizard anf Felton filed them in. Four spires, two of which were to be guarded. Two more, which were to be defended... "Good luck, mate," he remarked quietly to Triad, just before McCafferey swooped in quite suddenly and landed on his shoulder, looking as disgruntled as a chicken could. He almost hoped she'd been listening in to his conversation with the ranger. He then turned back to the party at large, particularly at Cronk. "If you're takin' suggestions, mate, I think each party should have at least two healers which are you, me, Poletad, and Haldor. I reckon Gnash shouldn't go with you, seein' as how he'd be needed to have the guards comply. Both bein' heavy damage dealers, Skrall and Nyx should probably split up, as should Hoke and Thothy as they both have wide spreadin' shields. Oh and..." He rummaged around in his cloak a bit before removing the ever dark Amethyst, tossing it over to Mallelio. "In the off-chance ya' do have to fight, it could come in handy." Quote

As you said, it is all the better that men like us choose to simply see our duty, and do it. And when I return to Duplovia, I will indeed take up your offer, sir. I thank you a hundred-fold for even considering it. Vipera's words blossom into specific heroes' heads. "Master Skrall, Master Thothwick, Master Dyric, Mistress Nyx, particularly Master Hoke, I am much pleased to see you once more. We have much to do, but friends of Dragons are never forgotten, and I am also pleased when I meet you in our ways around the world." Greetings again, Vipera! It has been a long time, but as you said- friends are never forgotten. I only apologize I could not accompany the others to Dastan to aid you in your battles. Haddon left scars on me that will take forever to heal, you see. Some sights can just not be unseen. Two more spires are showing increased activity. Flipz Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 What are Phil's stats? If he's a Chaos Regulator, then it's a good idea to have one in each party, but if not, we could swap Hans and Rone and thus have a Lucky party member on each team. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 "Your list seems amicable, Mr. Cronk, spelling aside." Cronk is sorry, friend Thothwick. Cronk was never much good at spelling. Pandora Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Nyx walks alongside Bennetton and Cronk (with Poletad on her shoulder) and listens as Bennetton speaks of the city. Her city. He loves it as she does, and fights to protect it. She can remember coming back here, and... surviving. She has explored many of its nooks and crannies, come to know the people... the feel of the city. It is worth defending, the fact that Wren must be stopped notwithstanding. As they arrive at the Watch House more familiar faces greet them, and Poletad hops down and ribbets his greetings. She looks around, a broad smile splitting her face. "Mallelio! Vipera! And of course Emperor Phil!" at this she curtseys deeply, with a cheeky glint in her eye, knowing Phil was not a man to accept such formality, Emperor or not. "It is so good to see you all! And I have so many questions of Dastan, and how you all are, but it seems now is not the time." She listens intently as the Grey Wizard speaks of the spires, and the plan to split and take on each. She nods as Cronk divides the teams. "I see no issue with your division, and I have confidence that we will all act for the benefit of the quest only, Cronk. Basically, I'll punch anything you like and then set fire to it. " Quote

Vipera flies to Hoke's shoulder and licks his face - something strange for a Dragon to do, perhaps, but they are old friends. It burns terribly, but only for a second, and then Hoke's entire body feels relaxed and safe (Blessed and Lucky). "Hello, Miss Alexis, I am Vipera Cladius III, but as we will be friends you may call me Vipera. Master Hoke, it is as Master Skrall said, I will do best to remain here and coordinate our efforts. As for the door you just defended, I didn't bother to look up what it would do. I assumed you'd defend it. The other two gates-- that is a good question. You should know them in case you need to go to them. There is an old watch tower called the Southern Tower from before the Bonapartes controlled the Seas. Triad will defend that. Mallelio, I think his name was, is off to defend a tower buried somewhere under or in the walls of the Observatory up on Sungold Hill." "My name is Mallelio. The Legonater Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Skrall, this'll be... what, the third time I've had you as party leader? Interesting, that. Quote
Flipz Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 "Second, for me," Arthur adds. "Hopefully this time Vipera won't sweep you off to go fight a chimaera," he jokes. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Vipera flies to Hoke's shoulder and licks his face - something strange for a Dragon to do, perhaps, but they are old friends. It burns terribly, but only for a second, and then Hoke's entire body feels relaxed and safe (Blessed and Lucky). Vipera's serpentine tongue traces a delicate arc across Hokes face. He feels as though his flesh is being seared right off, but the pain quickly subsides and a flow of strength and vitality settle into Hoke's core. "Thank you my friend. I know you will be valiant in this fight. May we meet again, and this time, much sooner." Hoke lifted his shoulder as Vipera took flight and landed back where she was to be. He was sad to leave her again, but there was a quest to complete, and their respective roles dictated the separation. "Shall we be off Cronk? Is there any business that we need to attend to first? Information to attain?" Quote
Zepher Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) The group heading towards the Hinckwell Store is shushed by McColt as they draw closer. Ahead of them they hear a shuffle of feet walking through the narrow alleys. They peak their heads around a corner and are greeted with a war party of Pongcanis. McColt hushes up the party and they watch the Pongcanis' disappear down a different pathway. "Hoke, do you recall the warrior named Vonnetate? If Wren is here, there is a good chance that he is here too. He was never found after the riots he caused. Of all of Wren's allies, he is the one I'd most like to see punished. He nearly brought destruction to my city. And if he is here, those are his warriors. Be prepared for combat, heroes." The heroes continue their advance, and soon arrive at the Hinckwell Store. It seems they are late to a party, as voices are already hollering inside. They step in as the man behind the counter speaks up. "Please, take this fight elsewhere. If any of these goods get damaged my boss will kill me." "It's not your boss you should be worried about," growls a Pongcanis in a low guttural voice. "Get out of here, Pongcanis. He said he didn't want to show you the back of the store. You've gotta respect that." "Move along, shops closed." "Don't look like it is," Hans said with a dangerous chuckle. "Shall we kill these jokers, McColt, heroes?" "Heroes?! We have orders to kill you. When a Pongcanis gets an order to kill, it is always done. Might as well eat the other metal heads as well." "Get out of here, heroes. This is our battle. You'll be taken in for questioning if you get in the way!" A single Bombster and a single Chimera Guard. "Those abominations again. I thought we'd swept up the last of them that Blackenord had made, but apparently Wren made off with a few." "Quite a few, heroes. XX tells us to not mince words with you. He said to spare those of you who I could, so if any of you would like to stand down... no? None? Alright. Fight to the death it is."
