Bamos Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Ads do not bother me in the least bit and I do not use Adblock either. Any thing to keep the site free is okay with me. As far as adult ads this is an 18 and over forum. Bill Quote
Palathadric Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I don't mind either way. The ads don't bother me. I wouldn't be able to pay any fee though as I have no way of sending money. Quote

Junpei Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 They don't bother me, to be honest. I don't even have one on the top, only the bottom, and I don't even notice unless it's mentioned. Quote
Athos Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Personally, I don't find the ads instrusive or (half the time) even noticable. I'm certainly not a fan of making this a pay site. I'd much rather spend my money on the bricks. If you don't like the advertise, don't click on the link. Steve Quote
Palathadric Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 You don't have a bank account, creditcard or PayPal account? How do you eh, manage life? Nope and I think a majority of people in my country would say the same. Besides I'm a volunteer worker for a humanitarian aid organization doing charity work and stuff, so I would have no money to pay anyway. Consider me like an Amish...with internet. Quote
1974 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 What country might that be? You have money for LEGO which is #"¤#!! expensive but not 5$ per year for this site? Quote
Gunman Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 ads dont bother me at all too here, i would prefer to keep eurobricks a sub-free site as long as it gets Quote
jodawill Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I haven't noticed this in the past because I had Adblock turned on, but I disabled it for Eurobricks today because I want to help support the website. I just saw this ad on the homepage. It's some sort of sex game or something. I'm not sure how much control the admins have over these things, but seeing as how this is a website for children's toys, that kind of thing doesn't really seem to be appropriate here, so I thought I'd mention it. WaysofSorting Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Yes. A terrible thing. I never used adblock, but that kind of ad goes beyond worry that my LEGO browsing experience will be interrupted by ads. That is very negative representation of the hobby and of this site. Please someone get rid of those! Quote

I just clicked on it and it's actually not an adult site, but I still don't think the ad is appropriate for this website. Quote
tomdobs55 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 When the site advertises to be an 18+ site, then I'm sure those type of ads will pop up from time to time just due to demographics. Quote
jimmynick Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I happened to PM Sinner about that very ad today. I know that EB is an 18+ site, but I don't need to see NSFW content next to The LEGO Movie news, you know? Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I noticed that very same ad too, thought it was my computer though, which seems to be spazzing out lately. Quote
MKJoshA Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I've been think this same thought for the past couple of weeks. Thank you for posting about it. If there is anything the admins can do about it it would be greatly appreciated. Quote
CardinalBricks Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Us LEGO fans are more attracted to a 71,000 piece Super Star Destroyer MOC over that any day, so eat that you AD CHOICE MORONS! Edited January 5, 2014 by BrickRally217 Quote
dr_spock Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Brickshelf has the same ad. It's for a online game. Quote
Darkdragon Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 The ads are different for everyone (somewhat) based on what you've been browsing. If you don't believe me go play around on Amazon for a while and look at some products before coming back here, you'll see ads with similar items and possibly even one for Amazon after you refresh EB. It works like those Google ads in Gmail. So...it's not Eurobricks that is interested in adult games... Quote
jodawill Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) I happened to PM Sinner about that very ad today. I know that EB is an 18+ site, but I don't need to see NSFW content next to The LEGO Movie news, you know? Yeah, it may technically be an AFOL-only website, but I'm sure there are thousands of kids who visit the website too, even if they don't have an account. I'm sure there are a lot of people in this thread who have kids they let onto this website all the time. Us LEGO fans are more attracted to a 71,000 piece Super Star Destroyer MOC over that any day, so eat that you AD CHOICE MORONS! I'm sure no one here chose it on purpose. They probably have no control over the ads that show up on the front page. The ads are different for everyone (somewhat) based on what you've been browsing. If you don't believe me go play around on Amazon for a while and look at some products before coming back here, you'll see ads with similar items and possibly even one for Amazon after you refresh EB. It works like those Google ads in Gmail. So...it's not Eurobricks that is interested in adult games... That may be true (it showed me a suit ad and I've been shopping for suits). But I know there's nothing in my browsing history that would make it suggest anything like that unless it assumes everyone uses Reddit for adult material (a lot of the famous subreddits are smut). I don't even play video games. Edit: Or maybe torrents? Edited January 5, 2014 by jodawill Quote
jodawill Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Darkdragon, It shows up in incognito mode, so I don't think it has anything to do with browsing history. Quote
Cult_Of_Skaro Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Yeah, some ads are browsing based, but then sometimes it pops up a gay pride ad or something when I haven't touched a thing in any way related to that. Edited January 5, 2014 by Cult_Of_Skaro Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I get lots of ads for (US based) retirement plans. I'm under 30, and am Southern England born and bred. So long as pop-ups aren't forced I'm cool with whatever (I might take offence if I see hardcore porn though, but I'd hazard a guess that's unlikely.). Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 The ads I normally see are for Dominos Pizza. It's sad that the internet knows my hidden desires but sadder still that there is no Dominos around here so the internet's omniscience is all for naught. Quote
