Modulex Guy Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Yea, I did, but even if I'm listening to iTunes while surfing the board I still get "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WON!" in the background. ugh. Quote
prateek Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 If you have Windows Vista or 7, you can turn off the sound coming from certain programs, so you can have your iTunes playing while the Internet is muted. I'm not sure if this function is on Mac though. Quote
Siegfried Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I've never encountered an ad like that. Do you know what company it's from? We could complain about it; I personally think ads with sound are the spawn of the devil. Quote

I have no idea what company it is... its one of those look-a-like windows pop-up things that say "CONGRATULATIONS, you're the 100,000th visitor, you're a winner, click to claim your prize" I really did not want to click on it for it might go to a bad place. Stash2Sixx Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 LOL, yeah, this just happenned to me too. No big deal though, I'll survive! Quote

Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 22, 2010 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 22, 2010 If you click on it and provide the URL I can prevent that ad from appearing again. I did the same for the Scientology ad. Quote

Marckeyh Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Ad blocker plugins... Agreed, highly recommended! Quote
The Soup Nazi Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I just caught the ad again: Alternate Ending! http://lmadcloud.info/content/multipromo/index_v6.php?audio=off&cid=XAv6 Quote
JCC1004 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I can verify The Soup Nazi's link. It is extremely annoying. I am running music on Youtube and it does cause issues. Quote
Follows Closely Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 That is one annoying ad. I don't think EB can control the ads, since they are made be Google. Maybe you could just turn the sound off. They can control the adds. They need to log into their Addsence account and block this particular add. Add block Plus would like to be your friend. Quote
Eskallon Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Sorry to disturb but I found another annoying ad: Here is the link. I would be fine with the link if it wasn't flashing about and being annoying, I have seen the same one on other websites recently too. Quote

Add block Plus would like to be your friend. If you read the topic you would see that we've already pointed that out and are taking care of that. Maybe you should follow more closely. Come one, you knew that screen name was gonna come back and bite you one of these days. And they're "ads," not "adds." Sorry to pick on you. It was fun, though. Quote
Big Cam Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Burn. For as much as I'm on EB, I have actually never ran into an ad with sound. I'm also happy to have them here, they help bring in revenue, and being at the bottom, they never get in the way. Quote

I'm also happy to have them here, they help bring in revenue, and being at the bottom, they never get in the way. I know they bring in money for EB but some shouldn't be on here as you can see. The ads on EB are minimal and I do like that very much. I am offended by some of them personally. They tarnish that "EB Experience". I do almost always see even the bottom adds too. Sorry to disturb but I found another annoying ad: Here is the link. I would be fine with the link if it wasn't flashing about and being annoying, I have seen the same one on other websites recently too. I agree. I have no clue what it's about and have no intent to. It seems overly suggestive and I know this is an AFOL Forum I still find that content inappropriate. The flashing does make this a real issue with me. Quote
RileyC Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I dont find the ads at all intrusive in EB. They give some revenue to the site which is great so we can all enjoy EB. If you dont like the ads because of them being inappropriate just scroll up a tiny bit. Theres nothing to be seen after the ad so you dont need to be down so far. Quote

I agree that some ads can be more annoying than others, but we can only complain about ads when they happen, not before. In most cases there's no need anyway; the ads often get pulled due to other sites complaining. Quote
Rick Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Don't bad-mouth the ads, they pay for my EB Fellow lease car. Seriously, my brain is conditioned to ignore ads as much as possible. That's on the conscious level only, subliminally they probably do their job. Quote
The Legonater Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Funny, I've been on the site about a year and I've never encountered a single ad. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Funny, I've been on the site about a year and I've never encountered a single ad. Me either, from a certain point of view. I rarely visit the frontpage and get all my frontpage news from the frontpage forum, and rarely ever scroll down far enough to see board advertisements. I usually just see LEGO advertisements if I do. Quote
Mr. Gray Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Well, this morning before I left to go do daily things I do on the weekdays, I decided to visit EuroBricks. I was looking around, exploring the forums, and clicked back to the frontpage because the current post interested me, yet I did not click on it. However, as I was about to click on it, just moving my mouse, I was redirected to a page that I was not familiar with. It was a blank white page, with two animated face rapidly changing. Above, it said "CHECK OUT FACE MASHER" or something of the sort. I quickly changed it back to the EuroBricks homepage by hitting the back button, but to no avail. I was quickly redirected AGAIN to this suspicious ad. I closed FireFox immediately, and did a virus scan. Luckily, nothing malicious was found. However, I thought I would mention this, just to give a heads up. I've never experienced this before, I don't know if it was intended, could something please help? Thank you in advance. Quote
