LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) Indexed by Moderator - Merry Christmas! Hello Everyone, this Christmas under the tree I will place my new MOC: a multipurpose diesel locomotive. Inspired by Steinkopf and his maintenance vehicle: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=75971 I've realized a shunting tractor for my PF layout; my model is a copy of the TM III working on Swiss railways. For the joy of Roamingstudio this tractor is red with a yellow crane! The real challenge was to realize a little locomotive with motor, battery (...and lights of course! ) hidden by the the smallest structure I have ever built. Having to give up with the IR receiver I've designed a transmission with low speed and high power ratio to drive the shunter with manual controls. The motor start with an "on-off-on" switch and the lights with an independent "on-off" switch. The four lights are all white because the vehicle works in both directions, but in the tools compartment I've put two red round plates to use red lights when necessary Now enjoy the show ...and Merry Christmas to you all! JopieK Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Nice job... Looks very nice!!! maybe it would be better to use some heat shrink tube for your LED's b.t.w.!!! Quote
eurotrash Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 That's a great looking utility diesel. Cramming a battery, motor, gearing and wiring into that small space certainly looked like a challenge.... and it's particularly nice to see it pulling an old set from the early 90s (the 4543). Thanks for sharing it with us! Quote

roamingstop Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Red and yellow make christmas look so fine. And this loco too! It looks just like those near our local station (of my daily commute) Quote
Locomotive Annie Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Thankyou for sharing the details of your build. I can see this being a really useful loco in a shunting yard with that crane, Quote

Steinkopf Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) Nice work LT12V it's great to see someone look at a real life prototype and produce their own rendition, you have in many ways captured the look and feel of the SBB version so well with this MOC. It is also nice to see someone else take up the challenge and see how compact they can make what is in real life a relatively small vehicle, I think this is one of the greatest challenges as builders we can meet, the ability to build such small vehicles yet at the same time compress in as much detail as we can in them. Thanks again for having focused my attention to maintenance vehicles! Quote

WesternOutlaw Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 How ingenious LT12Vs. In addition to the neat little compact design, I love the light feature. Well done my friend! Quote

danthaman11 Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Great job on the diesel locomotive. It looks just like the real world version counterpart and how you were able to add lights and make it move brings it up to that next level. Keep up the good work! Quote

Thanks danthaman11, I've seen your great works around (the pick up for train and town) ...keep up the good work you too! Quote
Duq Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Nice model of an unusual rail vehicle. The lights with the big switches wouldn't be my cup of tea but I appreciate the work involved. May I suggest one improvement? I would do some of the detailing in the undercarriage (like the tanks) in dark grey. They look dark grey in the pictures, and that way you'd get a little more contrast. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 Hi Duq, my first idea was to create the whole bottom of the locomotive in dark gray, I had to give up because there is no train buffer of this color and realize only the air cylinders in dark gray not convince me Thanks for the suggestion anyway ...I can make a try! King Aragorn Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 This little locomotive looks like the real thing! I just love it! Quote
