Cheezus Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I've been busy adding smd LED's in the Lego Winter sets. I think the result looks quite nice so I decided to share it. The links contain larger versions. JopieK Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Not tweakers allowed here ;) (just kidding, have been a t.net member from before the great DB crash...). Welcome to EB.com and please do introduce yourself. Nice work, you used very thin wire?! Quote
Cheezus Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 I've used 1mm wire and 0603 SMD leds (1,6x0,8mm). It took a lot longer than expected the idea was easy, the reality hard (and frustrating at times) Some methods of implementing the LEDs: Different light positions meant different solutions, some easier then others. I've kept the drilling and glueing to a minimum of parts (mostly extra parts bought for this purpose) the sets can be brought back in original state without much effort I'll make an introduction post! Vincent Kessels Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Great job on the lights. The photos look great! Quote
Rufus Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Super job on the lighting! Looks great. One of my long-term goals is to create a LEGO lighting resource; for now I'll index this thread in the miscellaneous section of the Special Index, but I'll move the thread to Town as that's where the Winter Village stuff tends to go. JopieK Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Niels Woelders will be proud of you wouldn't he ;) Quote
stebai Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Awesome work - sadly my fat fingers aren't up to such intense, fiddly work as I'm inspired by the wonder of your village! Quote
nebraska Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Very very nice. It looks very festive! Quote
Faefrost Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 That looks fantastic. It just creates the perfect scene. It kinda makes us wish TLG would create a more modernized and miniaturized lighting system for some of their more adult targeted projects. Quote
LAKAbricks Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Welcome to Eurobricks, Cheezus. And what an entrance to the forum. These lights make the Winter Village absolutely stunning. Really a great job A Merry Christmas to you! Quote
PsyKater Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Looks very good, thanks for sharing. Can you tell us which parts you have drilled and glued? And how many LEDs did you use? I want to do this next year and want to buy all replacement parts beforehand. Quote
Cheezus Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 Mostly I've used the 1x1 round bricks in black and white for the lights. I've also used some 1x1 bricks with clip for the lights on the bakery, ice lake and post office. I planned to use these also for the colored christmas tree lights and the roof-lights on the cottage.. I didn't have time to do them all so maybe next year In the sets are a total of ~40 yellow LED's, 4 red and 4 green. I've also tried 2 white LED's but the cold white light isn't bringing the warm feeling so I'd advise not to use those. The total amount of LED's used in building is about twice as much, a lot of them broke when trying to put them in a brick or just disappeared on my table (they're really small!) - that was the frustrating part You can find the LED's on dealextreme for about $2 for 50 pcs: http://dx.com/p/0603-yellow-smd-led-emitter-silicone-strip-122493 Quote
Ferrik Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) The lights do look quite good. It's a nice scene with Christmas lights twinkling here and there and a brightly-lit Christmas tree. Edited January 5, 2013 by Ferrik Quote
2wistd Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Do you have a link to the 1mm wiring you used? Really would love to do some of this. Great work! Quote
Righty Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 That is really perfect! I like it a lot. Quote
