TheLegoDr Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I've used Brickpicker a few times. It is a neat idea. It won't let me export my brickset list to it, so I haven't used it consistently. I don't have the time to input over 600 sets by set number, when I already did that by clicking a box on brickset. Either way, I think investing is a good idea and LEGO being as popular as it is can be good. But the downside becomes when not every set is a hit in the resale market. One set may skyrocket in price, but then you could miss your selling point and the price could plummet the next day. I realize investing is a gamble, but it seems only a select few sets are really going to be worth anything. And with LEGO retaining some sets for longer periods than previously, the number of sets in the public's hands will increase, thus causing less scarcity. Death Star, Fire Brigade, and MMV are all prime examples. (Basically) Everyone that wanted one probably has one, short of the late comers to getting back into the hobby. So to own multiples for resale may not give you as much of an increase in value as expected. Then I think there are people like me who don't need the exact set in question, but will just use their own stock/bricklink the pieces and make modifications to suit. That's how I'm building CC and GG because I won't be paying upwards of $2000 for those two sets when I can build them for much less. The same goes for LEGO re-releasing not sets, but actual parts in future sets. If the dark blue arch ever became available again, then that would make CC MOCers much happier and the sellers would be sitting on a worthless part. And an addendum: I always referred to LEGO as legos as a child and I will forever call them legos. On here, I type LEGO, but I always refer to them as legos. It doesn't hurt my feelings like most people. Quote
BrickPicker Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Ok, whatever, I didn't realize that adding an "s" to Lego what blasphemy. No harm done I guess. "Legos" is a term I have used for almost 40 years. I would consider it more of an "American" term. Out of respect to the LEGO company, I will write LEGO bricks, but to be quite honest, when speaking casually, "Legos" still blurts from my mouth. I've used Brickpicker a few times. It is a neat idea. People import their sets all the time from Brickset and Rebrickable into our Brickfolio. Let me know. Thanks Quote
Slobey Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 It surprises me that some people have such negative reactions to Lego investing. I don't know how they expect that someone would buy and store a set for years and then altruistically on sell it for rrp for the love of the brick....... What people need to remember is for a transaction to take place there must be a willing seler AND a willing buyer. Demand dictates price, if there is no demand, price falls......... I don't know....are some people annoyed they missed out on a set and can't afford it on the secondary market now and expect people to gift it to them. Don't tell me brick link stores that everyone loves don't make profit on the parts they sell......... Quote
Shroffy123 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Hi all, I apologize if its inappropriate to post stuff like this, or if it is in the wrong forum, but I always love finding amazing news stories about this hobby we all enjoy so much. I'm not sure if many of you have heard about this story, but LEGO makes up for a young kid's lost Jay minifig. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/09/luka-apps_n_2434781.html It makes me want to go out right now and spend 100s of dollars on LEGO sets. Phoxtane Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 What if I already plan to spend hundreds of dollars on Lego sets? Quote
Zaterdag Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I don't know how I feel about that to be honest. I think its kinda lame but whatever floats your boat. It really only works with UCS or Modulars it seems. Maybe a few SW sets. I don't think I'd ever do it. I wouldn't have the patience and I don't like the idea. Quote
