phoinix Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 they used the same female minifig that they used in pet shop? how weird! Quote
Graysmith Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Such a lovely set. I hope those prices are correct, though I wouldn't be surprised if LEGO jacks them up like they did with the Haunted House. My only complaint really would be that the bottom level floor is bright red instead of the far more appropriate and accurate dark red. Quote
eurotrash Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Ah yea, I'm a duke now! All hail the Duke! Congratulations! Anyway back to the Cinema - the more I see it the more I like it. The price point is good and I can't wait until March. Quote
Crackerjack Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Has the designer video been released? Quote
eurotrash Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Has the designer video been released? Check out the video on the Lego Facebook page - there's a link in GRogall's first post in this thread. Quote
Zef Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 im curious to see if we get stung with the standard AUD$300 in Australia. if the set is USD$150, typical lego markup would probably make it AUD$250 down here... mind you, with our currency we could buy it in the US for about USD$145... will be watching closely. if the rip-off occurs, it will be my first Modular set bought online I was pleasantly surprised at the Horizon Express pricing for Oz, US$130 compared to AUS$160 so hopefully the price discrepancy is similar. Redhead1982 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I agree with you on the front doors - to me it definitely looks like 1x2x5 trans-clear bricks, however, these were used in Creator's Lighthouse Island before. Anyone know if the front doors look like 1x2x5 trans-clear bricks? If so, that would be a new part and could be very useful for different window options. Grogal, thanks for news realese and HR images. I'm enjoying them very much. Added News release and HR images to first post! enjoy! The price looks appropriate now, and I hope it stays. I'm not so sure about red baseplate though. Is it really that special? A dark red one would be much better for inner carpeting. Such a lovely set. I hope those prices are correct, though I wouldn't be surprised if LEGO jacks them up like they did with the Haunted House. My only complaint really would be that the bottom level floor is bright red instead of the far more appropriate and accurate dark red. Quote
Darthluke824 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Nice set! It looks better than expected. One thing that caught my eye though, 'Mystery On The Monorail.' Could it be a hint we are getting a new one? After all it looks differerent. Anyway, I will be getting it for sure! Quote
polyphonic Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 It's about time LEGO gave us custom faces on the modular minifigs. I hate the old faces now, and have replaced all my heads. Quote
Brickus Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Am I right in thinking that she implied the stars on pathway, were printed? Quote
GRogall Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 Am I right in thinking that she implied the stars on pathway, were printed? You are correct! and they are. Quote
The Player Nº1 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 A beautiful set. Take my money LEGO. Quote
Rufus Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Another must-have! I'm ok with stickers for this. Especially as... 'Forever Sorting' 'Brick Separator' - They're taking over the world! The horror! 'Mystery of the Monorail' Where did it go? Now there's a brick-film I'd love to see. Quote
Chocolatecake Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Okay Lego! Just take my money! I must say that the video does make the budilding even more atractive than it was on the pictures and I like very much that the put their name on the movieposter, it's a funny little feature. Quote
GRogall Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 I have added a download link for the HD designer Video in the first post! Quote
snaillad Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 For some reason the designer video doesn't come across as very enthusiastic as the previous town hall one. Guess there wasn't much to talk about regarding the interior. It's so dreary. I like dark tan, but never as the predominant colour. The interior walls are crying out to be broken up, with either texture or colour. The movie posters are really good. I would have one as my desktop wallpaper if I could get a pic! Don't see the point of the stairs onto the roof. Wasted space me thinks. I suppose the price is ok for the piece count. Cant help wondering what could have been done with another 500 pieces like the town hall, but I guess TLG wants a variety of modulars at different prices. Quote

Commander Turtle Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Ahaha, "Starring Minnie Figure"! The car is still as ugly as old pants, but take what you get. Quote
AncientDayz Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 So, I was looking forward to a different type of theatre (no, not Starlight's). I thought a more small-town USA theatre would have been a nice fit to the line (in fact, I just drove 400 miles yesterday on the East coast and passed several of these). However, I am not disappointed in the least at the direction they took. I really love the outside of this theater. The stars are a nice touch (especially if the are printed). The doors look great, and I really like the sign and roof line. I hate the idea of stickers, but I will just get over that. The limo: it's not great, but I don't buy the sets for vehicles anyway. However, while I love the outside and will definitely be getting this, I think the inside has got to go (I also think, as somebody has pointed out earlier, that the drabe inside kills some of the enthusiasm in the video). I haven't modified a modular yet, but I will with this one. I often go to the Tivoli - the second oldest movie theatre in the US that housed "talking" movies. Based on this iconic theatre, I will probably add carpeting and a chandelier to the first floor as well as flush out the concession stand (might add a bathroom as well). On the second floor, I will probably remove the stairs to the roof, add a small "fake" stage in front of the screen, make the screen bigger, increase the seat number (still wont be stadium as this wasn't a norm then), and modify the projector area. I know a lot of people have talked about the windows, and while I agree that the windows wouldn't be there in a real theatre, they don't bug me as much because I would rather keep the ability to look inward and keep the overall look on the outside. Overall, I am really happy about getting a theatre, and I think this will be a great addition to my street. I just think they dropped the ball on the interior. It is very inferior to many of the earlier buildings (probably all of them except CC and MS - possibly tied with that of the GE). Quote
Cammo Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Man. This set is tempting. I always said to myself to stick with the lisenced themes but this is just too good. I just keep telling myself that its related because all my other sets are movie related... This or arkham, this or arkham. And with the orthanc tower coming out... I just cannot afford all 3. But if I buy the cinema palace, i will replace the yellow with flesh minifigs, just to tie it into my display cabinet. :) Quote
ghostmind Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 According to the guys over on the Brick Show, the movie posters and screen are stickers. I would assume the marquee is as well. Quote
Faefrost Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I'm a little more pleased with this set after watching he designer video. I actually kind of fell in love with the whole multi leveled meta story they managed to build into the thing with the Minifigs and the limo. The child star traveling with her chauffeur just screams Shirley Temple. Once you spot what's going on there so much of the set design coalesces into place. It's a movie theater that's in a movie about a movie star, showing her movie. It's quite charming. Still not crazy about the auditorium, but the rest of it is growing on me. Quote
