eurotrash Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I picked mine up from the not-so-local Lego Store in Kansas City and built it over two evenings. I have to say that my first impressions were very positive - although it did look a bit garish when placed next to the Town Hall. Now that I've lived with it for a few days it's kinda blended in and it looks superb! I'd recommend it to anyone who's considering it. That car, however, it's still rubbish not the best thing I've seen Lego produce. Quote
tomdobs55 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 That car, however, it's still rubbish not the best thing I've seen Lego produce. You were right the first time, that car is rubbish. It looks so out of scale. But all and all the set as a whole is really nice, I wasn't planning on getting it, but when I went to buy the pet shop last week they didn't have it so i picked this up instead, I am very happy with it. Studebricker Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I only have the cafe corner and fire brigade, so I guess i'm pick and choose as far as the modulars go. I do like the emporium and this new cinema especially. Once Lego or Amazon has it on sale, I will pick it up. Very good looking set! Quote
Cian Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 The usually rock solid postal system here STILL hasn't delivered mine. Waaaaaah. Quote

Good luck with sales, I have never seen any of the modulators or any other exclusive on sale. Also the grand emporium is being discontinued soon so I'd pick that up sooner rather than later. antp Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Ok, so first one 2x12 and one 1x6 dbg plate. Then one 4x6 tan plate. And in step 3 another 4x6 tan plate - that´s it ?! Just a guess: in other sets these very big plates are used only as baseplates and not in the middle of constructions, so the automatic system that listed the parts needed didn't include it because it skips the "baseplate" which is usually at the first step. Seems like a reasonable explanation. Still weird though. All these pictures and reviews are getting me giddy. Hong Kong displays, here I come! Quote
ChefAgf Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Beautiful set. Ordered mine at friday 12:50 pm at the website and it arrived saturday morning! less then 24 hours free delivery! nice... Quote
SwissBrick Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Ordered mine on the 14th, just got home and found the box in front of the door...thanks DHL guy for not taking it back to the sorting facility as no one was home!!!! Quote

Amazon just had the Fire Brigade on sale for around $130 about two weeks ago. They had Town Hall on sale for $160 over the Black Friday weekend. Quote

Captain Settle Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) Egg on my face my bad Why is there not a emoticon for that? We need eggs on my face! I like Palace Cinema, but I will have to pick up the others first. Edit: Just realised this got me a tag! Edited February 21, 2013 by Captain Settle Quote
Esurient Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Just ordered Palace Cinema from Shop@Home! Can't wait to get building! Quote
merman Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 the photoshopped pics are a bit tricky... the gold pieces on the pics looks really gold and shiny. The real parts are less shiny haha Quote
TheLegoDr Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I had no idea Amazon had some modulars for that cheap. I'll have to keep my eye out for the Town Hall again then. I will be waiting on the Cinema. As much as I love it, it doesn't take priority and I think it would be one of the first Modulars I end up MODing more than expected. Quote
AncientDayz Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 By no means do I mean to get off topic, but Amazon actually had the Fire Brigade for $119 for a few weeks this year (was going to order another one, but I missed the opportunity by the time I decided to pull the trigger). So, I guess there's a chance that the Palace Cinema may be cheaper on there one day. If so, I will pick up another one without hesitation. For now, I am enjoying the one I just built. Quote
RoxYourBlox Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 - the sign that says Palace hangs and is not straight - the diagonal window on the auditorium floor is attached with one single stud. A stud at the top would have been possible. Now it is realy flimsy Having spent a thousand hours amassing a city of modulars and mining ways to snap bricks at odd angles, I feel the corner windows and sign were definitely the highlights of this set. There is no angle more deceptive or frustrating than the 45. An entire wall attached by a single stud... yet so securely in place... I tip my hat. Quote
Yucca Patrol Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 although it did look a bit garish when placed next to the Town Hall. I think the Town Hall is so large and rather boring looking that it is the sore thumb sticking out of any modular city block it is included in. It would look much better if placed on a 48x48 baseplate with a bit of greenery around all sides of it, as it would look much better as a stand alone building. This is why it is the first modular that has come along that I have not wanted at all. But I did score some nice accessory pieces, minifigs and parts like the clock face in a parts draft. Quote
Charlie97L Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) I actually snagged almost all my modulars off of Amazon. I got Fire Brigade for 119 before xmas, GE for 132 in January, and Town Hall for 154(!!) last week. And I got the pet shop for like 115 because of a damaged box/loose parts in the box at the Lego Store. Keep your eyes peeled, they have deals all the time for whatever reason. I'm contemplating BL-ing a Cafe Corner, but I'm not sure I can stomach doing GG ever. It's too bad, love that one. Edited February 22, 2013 by Charlie97L Quote
ER0L Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Some days ago a fellow AFOL, Na Dine, got the Palace Cinema and built it. So that was a nice opportunity to combine the cars and especially the Cadillac Fleetwood with it. Together we built a little scene which might go well with the Academy Award subject ... (Just seen the fantastic MOC AncientDayz has uploaded, now our scene surely can't compete with that! Anyway the focus is a little different, so ... ) More pics see http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=78281 (especially the last post). Quote
Cammo Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Very nice ER0L, love to get my hands on that movie star figure now. Don't know if I can wait for the double VIP points... When is happening anyway? 1st of March? Quote
antp Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 According to Bricklink the set is supposed to contain 14 tan jumper plates with groove : http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3794b However, in my set I got 5 without groove and 9 with groove Do someone else encounter that? If at least it was an even number of each type I could make something symmetrical Quote

If at least it was an even number of each type I could make something symmetrical Since this is just a newer variant of the classic jumper plate, TLG probably doesn't differentiate between them. I've had the same thing happen with clips in the past. You could try ordering replacements from Customer Service, but there's no telling whether you'd get the correct kind. My advice is just to wait until you have another new set with tan jumper plates and hope that the quantity will eventually balance out (or at least be significant enough that you can do without the remainder). Quote
antp Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I could try to contact them indeed. Or else some day I'll anyway get some in a Bricklink order, since I do not have tan jumper plates in my parts stock, I'll make the thing symmetrical at that time :D I find strange that "identical" parts from different production batch end up in one set. Ferrik Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Er0L that scene look great, with the celebrities getting out of the limo, and all the fans crowding around and going crazy. Quote
