RoxYourBlox Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) Very nice! This is sure to become a future classic! Is that a red or dark red baseplate? Red hasn't been issued since 1978. Edited January 4, 2013 by RoxYourBlox Quote
medib Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 sweet....its like icing on the cake... except its a baseplate.... :D Quote
Alywin Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Quite disappointed. Even worse than my originally low expectation. Too few content within the building, but waste parts to build the unnecessary car!!! Quote
wondermonkey Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Quite happy. I've been to a small theater like this to watch "Aaah! Zombies!!" on Halloween...and loved the experience. The posters are beautiful, the colors are great and the stars in the sidewalk are a really neat touch. Seriously worse than your low expectations? Not me brother, I'm getting it on day 1. (Oh and if you haven't seen Aaah! Zombies!!, do it. Wondermonkey gives it 2 opposable thumbs up.) Quote
merman Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Looks nice but I can't believe they caved for those damn stickers. It is very obvious if you look at the black and white screen. I can see the edges of the sticker. That is my only disappointment.... But it is a major one! Quote
snaillad Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Meh. Feel quite flat after seeing the interior. Can't get excited about the base plate. I usually cover mine in tiles. I almost feel that's what is missing from this set. For all the piece budget they spent on the vehicle they could have spent on at least tiling the ground floor interior aswell. The pavement area is actually quite nice. I like the stars! Alot of the cinema's from this time have a patterned carpet. I think this set needs some colour on the inside badly. Perhaps realistically on the ground floor. Cinema interior's have motif's, patterns and splendor. This is splen-dour! Whether its a true homage to the interior of Graumans I don't know but it doesn't seem very special or interesting. I cant particularly see any interesting pieces on the inside. We got a few nice touches in the grand emporium like goblets, plates, balls etc but nothing of similar interest here. On the positive I do like the overhang and palace sign. Definitely not my favorite modular in the series so far from what I see - its a shame because when I read it was going to be a cinema I was thrilled but now I just feel flat Quote
Redhead1982 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 It's definitely growing on me. I like the simple touch in the interiors to give it a feeling of days long past... The black&white screen is a sweet detail (even if it's a sticker). Seeing these pictures, I hope it's released soon. Quote
GRogall Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) I have added all the low res pics to the first post! I wander where Motayan got these since he has leaked a lot in the last couple of days! hope we have an official release from TLG soon! Stil in love with the model! MMMM, Roof top theater? They are watching! "Another Day, Another Leak" Edited January 4, 2013 by GRogall Quote
lelee Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) I love it! Great little features inside, lovely minifigs, cant wait to get my hands on it! looking forward to the competition to see who can come up with a design for the interior "carpet" for the ground floor lol Ive seen some pretty hideous cinema carpets in my time lol * Is that really "Mystery on the Monorail"!!!!!!! if so, I e**ing love that!!!!!!* Edited January 4, 2013 by lelee Quote
merman Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 There is a slight chance the movie posters are prints. I noticed the images go all the way to the edges of the window-pieces they are on. With stickers there would be a 1mm rim.. Quote

Yes I also think these are printed, I also think the stars on the sidewalk will be printed as well! the only thing that might be a sticker is the white screen! Edited January 4, 2013 by GRogall Quote
merman Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 OK... that would be acceptable. The screen, I think, is this part: And the announcement/schedule above the entrance are prints too. You can see these were printed on two white 2x4 tiles... Quote

MadManMingo Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Hmmm... what to say? I REAAALLY want to love this and propably will when I get hands on. But I'm not impressed by the theater room itself. True.. I havn't been in Graumans. But in my head a movie theater don't have see-trough windows and an open staircase to the entrance hall. Only 6 seats in a big modular cinema? No seperat projection-room? Even very old cinemas have that. This looks a little classroom'ish to mee. That red baseplate... hmmmm... i bit too "porn" for me. Gotta love those stars in the sidewalk though, and the beautyfull roof and front entrance. Quote

GRogall Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 I was talking about the screen! Oh ok! stand corrected! Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Thanks again 'GRogall' for your photo spread......I like the front doors.....might look into that design idea for a future project of mine. Only six minifigs.......who looks after the candy bar while he operates the projector ? Quote
sgeureka Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) It's clearly visible that the screen will be stickers: http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream . So it's very likely that the movie posters are stickers too. And I am not entirely sold on the idea that there will be six movie posters (3x two for inside/outside). It's quite possible that for that particular photo, the window pane was simply turned around. (We'll know more when the high res pictures get released.) The four movie titles are, as far as I can decipher: - Three Clicks & A Snap (Tickets 30c, Showing 2:00, 5:30, 8:00) - Brick ??? (Separator?) - Mystery of the Monorail - Forever Sorting Edited January 4, 2013 by sgeureka Quote
Faefrost Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I mostly like the set. A lot of the little details are charming. But I will agree with those who wish they had tiled the floor instead of giving us the car. The floor makes the interior feel incomplete. I will further go out on a limb and say the Theater should not have been done as a corner. The shape and abundance of windows just doesn't jive as well in a corner configuration. I think a straight up middle building would have better allowed for a main seating area, plus a balcony and separate projection room. Quote
Tomahawker Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 To me, the printing looks too vivid to be the traditional pad printing on bricks or tiles, but i can't see any seams on the edges of the movie posters. Is it possible that the movie posters and screen are printed card stock that is "captured" between the bricks? Quote
merman Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 The Mystery of the Monorail of course announcing the return of the monorail in Lego :p Quote
Redhead1982 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 'Forever Sorting' sounds like my 'life story'. The four movie titles are, as far as I can decipher: - Three Clicks & A Snap (Tickets 30c, Showing 2:00, 5:30, 8:00) - Brick ??? (Separator?) - Mystery of the Monorail - Forever Sorting Quote
