I like the German catalogs a great deal, myself. These days the U.S. catalogs do not display the sets as artfully (nothing even approaching the layouts seen on the LEGO City pages here or even the decorative backgrounds of the Chima and Hero Factory pages), and they don't even feature all the sets! There is more text, which is nice (I love looking through old catalogs at the brief story descriptions that accompanied older Space sets), but all in all the U.S. catalogs often feel like just a watered-down version of the LEGO Shop website.

I'm also impressed that there are ads for extended-line products, such as the LEGO Friends chapter books, shoes, luggage tags, storage containers, etc. These are also the sort of thing that were once featured in the U.S. catalogs, but not any longer.

Thanks GRogall, I noticed that on the LOTR page the exploding wall for helms deep is on the wrong side, maybe its just a mistake or they are showing how it can be combined in different ways.:classic:

I know a lot of people love the Star Wars and LOTR themes, but I prefer the non-licensed ones and it always saddens me a bit to see the Castle and space (Galaxy Squad right now) themes have half as many or fewer pages devoted to them. Town/City at least still gets several pages.

In the USA, Technic is always at the very back of the catalog if it is present at all. I was interested to see if this was different in Germany since it is so much more popular there. Nope! Still in the back. However, Technic did get 8 pages of coverage.

Blackbird, Technic have always been in the very back of all large (EU) catalogues since the beginning of eh, large catalogues. They all follow the same timeline; starting with Duplo/Basic/pre-teen sets and ending with the more advanced (late)teen sets. Makes sense

There have been several Technic only catalogues in the past (I'm a catalogue collector, btw), but it seems TLG have stopped that a long time ago :sceptic:

I really like those beautifully-constructed, elaborate backgrounds on the Lego City pages! With the comic-style textboxes and speech bubbles it reminds me of the kinds of comics and display pages the Lego Mania Magazine had back in the 90's. I'm glad that that tradition is being kept alive in some form.

Aside from that, the cover has an interesting 'one-point perspective' thing going on that makes it really eye-catching. I envy German catalog subscribers for receiving such well-designed pieces of art.

Thank you kind sir! Nothing suprising here as we knew all the sets already.

It's a shame Lego is not doing dioramas like the city one for the rest of the themes...

Can't wait to get that catalog and points out all the errors they made photoshoping, haha. The last one had a few!

And wait a minute... You want to say some of you gets diferent catalogues? I thought Lego is making catalogues like this for whole world!

Umm, yeah, but the designer - or whoever made the final decisions - should really take some more perspective lessons. While the crane would be kinda okay being a little lower towards the back, the Friends school doesn't fit in this perspective at all.

Hm, I was hoping there would be a glimpse of the Winter Village Market in this. If this isn't the final version, I'm thinking the Winter Village Cottage image on the final "Frohe Weihnachten 2013" page is a placeholder that will indeed be replaced with the 2013 set?

The German dealers always get the Winter Village set one year later, and this is the final version of the catalogue, I have the printed version and the only difference is that the prices are included!

Yeah, it's definitely not the final version. Many errors and look at the Falcon on p3 - it's a Limited Edition Alternate Mirror Universe Version - yay!

But talking about SW, it's surprising that the Falcon is back (was already missing from the Jan-Jun catalogue) but the X-Wing and TIE are discontinued. They are both killer sets and deserve a longer shelf time I would say.

Browsing through a catalogue in the 80s and early 90s was tremendous fun, looking at all the great layouts and pictures. Now it's all packshots pasted together, really boring.

Where do you se that describtion of the MF?

Crazy that the X-wing and TIE is discontinued, they are so well designed!? Sure, TLG is going to redo them again in a couple of years, but why discontinue them in the meantime?

This catalogue, and many before, sucks bigtime compared to the 80's and 90's. The frontpage is straight outta IKEA

How about actually BUILD some dioramas instead of fiddling with digital pics? I was most certainly drawn to those setups as a kid, I really doubt this stuff could sway back then ..

Edit : I think i'll have to do a test on my son

That does not make sense. Why would they get the Winter Village sets a year later? They're widely availabe in the EU when they're released?

oh man!? they are an exclusive for the first three month! and since the are released in October no dealer would want them in January wen x-mass is over!

think about it!

I did. Does not compute. So no dealer wants to sell them from january and on? I have all the sets, I did not buy them during the winter

So man, think about it!

Posted (edited)

I'm questioning you because you don't make a lot of sense, sorry

Okay, so it's not possible to buy the wintersets in Germany after january, because they have been exclusive sets for three months on S&H?

I don't believe that, sorry

Edit : spelling mistakes

We don't make TLG policy. If you have questions or concerns about what they choose to do, you should contact them directly. Arguing it here is pointless and will not continue.

Wow, I didn't realize that. :-/

On the third page of the catalogue (second in the pdf) the image of the MF has been mirrored (the cockpit can be seen on the left side of the MF)

No need to get so defensive. We're did I, or Grogall, mention TLG policy? I just do not find it possible that any dealer does not carry those sets through the year. They're easily found in Denmark all year round. He is where I bought mine btw :

The issue is TLG policy, whether or not either of you brought it up, until you know what that consists of, you can't even legitimately speculate on the subject. What you do or do not find possible is irrelevant. Discussion over.
