I think so,I think there is a gear box on the bottom half for the outriggers,so what else would the forth function be.

The bottom left is the only one that isn't related to the crane, and the symbol looks more like an outrigger than slewing. It could just be an access to the gearbox on the chassis. It doesn't really have any reason, but they did something similar on the unimog if i remember correctly.

Just to let you know, that new panel is a yellow version of the black one inside the tracks of the starter model for the 31313 Mindstorms EV3 (2013)...4.jpg

YEAH BABY!

Alright, this is starting to look awesome. And, bad for my wallet...

Could the sliding be done with a worm-gear-a-like gear? So, with half of the axle-holding structure inside the gear, so it still grabs the axle, but can slide (you guys all know what i mean, i'm bad at english)

The crane is starting to grow on me. I like that it's not completely yellow.

42008 appears to have the same size wheels as the crane? Can someone confirm? Because at first sight it appeared to have the same tires as 8109.

edit: you're right porty - 42008

Assuming you mean 42008, I think it indeed has the same wheels as 8109... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=56145c01

Love that crane, going to get a copy for sure.

That panel looks useful. Any other sets it has appeared in?

This!

I'm speechless - looks like another Technic Icon in the making. On a side note, the 42008 is all green now? I thought it had some red mixed in before?

I agree!

Personally I'm glad they've changed the colors of the 42008. It looked a little too much "chritmaslike" before in red and green.

Nope. :sweet: BTW, I can barely see the 42005 peeking its head in the left corner...

i wonder how far the boom telescopes?...it only looks halfway out in the pictures....still amazing

You're right, looks like it can go quite a bit further. That thing is absolutely massive..

Move over 8421 and 8053, there's a new king in town!

From how little friction some of the new gears have on their axles (like the 20t bevel gear) I would not be surprised if they just used a normal gear to do the outriggers, it's easy enough to do already. I would expect the slewing function to have some kind of gearing this time round at least to counteract the torque of any drive shafts going through the turn table. And if the red lever by the wheels is a mini gearbox to control the two functions of the outriggers then, due to it's neutral position, there is no need for any of the four functions of the main gearbox to also be the outriggers, leaving one space left for slewing. I am very happy to see that non of the functions appear to be operated from a knob connected right next to the function itself as it adds some sense of realism and complexity to the model. But I'm not 100% sold on it just yet. I'm not sure I need to spend £150 on yet another set that has little more of interest than being slightly bigger and having a gearbox that is mainly just lots of 16t gears. It was spectacular the first time in 8480 but after about 20 more sets of this i'll need to see more pics first, maybe it offers something more but for now I don't see it.

As for the rescue truck it does somewhow look better now. Maybe it's just at a different angle but there seems to be less red in it which would be an improvement I think. I don't have the old picture to hand right now to compare but i'm very happy to see that the pneumatic logo is still on the box. This is one I certainly will be getting.

From the comments I feel that it's going to be some demand driven repricing of 8053 and 8421 on bricklink...

MISB 8421 cost around $600-$1k in Bricklink...for sure the price will go down.

42009 is much bigger and better, at much cheaper price!

I love this set, I don´t know yet if I will buy it but sure I will build it. This is a great set for the heavy machinery lovers and Lego sure will attract many children with it.

Now when I see the picture.... it did not WOWed me at all... Is it me or it looks very damn Bland?

*ducks down in fear of incoming stones...

I too think something doesn't look quite right - the proportions seem off somehow. Perhaps the colours could be tweaked a little (too much DBG on the chassis?) - still, that's easily done!

Looking at the side view, I think the pivot point of the boom is too far forward - compare to where the boom on 8421 is pivoted and you'll see what I mean. The rest of the rotating superstructure therefore looks like it's hanging off the back. I understand why it's been done, to get the required range of motion from an actuator that is in effect too short, however it doesn't look like the typical mobile crane image I have in my mind. I also can't help thinking the studless construction of the boom would look a lot more refined if a few studded technic bricks had been used instead! Still, I can't wait till I can get my hands on a copy or two!

I think this compliments 8421 rather than replaces it, so prices will stay high I reckon!
