I like the crane, I have 8053 but this is such a step ahead of it and I don't have 8421 so full steam ahead for buying. I am going to go broke buying what seems every technic set this year. I can't wait.

I'm not 100% sold on the crane yet but it does look impressive , I'm not sure why people are talking about 8053, it doesn't even compare to this or 8421, I payed a lot for a misb 8421 last year and it really is a great set and pneumatic s top it off even if the boom drops,

I'm kind of with allan on this one that , will it really be worth it if we have 8421,

Also yes it has a 3 stage boom but so does 8421, will this new boom be any longer?

Yes I will probably still buy this set :)

I really want too see 42008 any pics yet??? And Paul said he seen catalogue and it has no pneumatics, so Paul next year look closer and stop giving us panic attacks and u said u would eat ur words too :) would u like salt!

Don't fool yourself David. You know you want it hehe

I'm loving it already. Reliving that coming out of the dark ages feeling again

Okay, not the more i look at it, the more it starts to look cool/interesting. The front picture helps a lot!

Wait till you build this thing. The sheer size of it will blow you away.

Look's to me like it has two LA's to raise the boom in the picture or is it just a shadow ? This is gonna be my first big buy this year, I can see that all ready, LOL. Any word on the piece count too ? Has to be over 2000 I bet.

Yes it has 2 large la,s :) 1 la would not lift that mother of a boom :) edit think it looks like 1 now)

I'm looking forward too seeing proper pictures of 42008 next :)

it could be a piston engine

That's probably it,I cant thing of any other thing.

This is going to take some serious begging (dinner and flowers for a start)

I don't think even that is enough.

A couple of diamond and gold rings might do it

That would be an odd spot for an engine. My guess is that the engine is farther forward, between the yellow 5x11 panels (similar position to 8421). I think the gearbox for the stabilizers is under that panel.

Wow, very impressive!

On the "LEGO Events" Facebook page, someone said this:

"Actual piece count is 2606 parts, based on info at the event. The arm extends to 70 cm, and has articulated steering."

2606 parts?!!! *oh2*

Not too surprising I suppose, considering how huge it is!

Last time there was such a huge jump in the (Technic) part number record was 8421! (previous record holder was 8448 with 1437 parts)

What i would like to know is how they have made the second boom section extend. in 8421, they used string.

Actually, never mind, in the photo of the front, it is possible to see string under the boom, so I assume it will be similar to 8421.

So far, the only thing I particularly dislike about it is that the boom is attached too far forward on the rotating part (what IS it called?)

I think the stabilizers are controlled by the red switch that is right above the 2nd and 3rd axles

I agree. That's what makes me think the gearbox is under the grey panel. The grey panel is also above the 2nd and 3rd axles.

Oh I thought you meant the switch was also under the panel.

i can be so stupid sometimes

But yes I think you are right

wohooo, again a must have and again something to modify  whats wrong? the hinge of the boom is too much in front of the uppercarriage

i love the lego designers. a perfect set would be boring

Nice to see all the green parts!

Interesting mix of pneumatics and linear actuators. Looks like the rear stabilizers have two mLAs, the boom has a single LA, and the unfold mechanism uses a small pneumatic cylinder.

There are obviously two pneumatic valves. Any ideas what the second valve does? [EDIT: Looks like the upper section of the boom with the hoist is telescopic and is moved in/out by a pneumatic cylinder]

It's nice to see a small pneumatic cylinder, but I'm not sure I like a mix of pneumatics and linear actuators. I do like the two steering axles.

Definitely a must buy for me!

Those lazy TLG designers always fail:) here comes the new superhero EfferMAN: improve unimproveable and modify unmodifable!

hm, the RC recovery truck looks nice. folding fork and extending boom by pneumatics. Stabilizing swords by two mini LA, lifting the boom by an big LA (right decission) and maybe an compressor. a very cool set

Oh, for crying out loud! I can only afford a limited amount of Lego in one time period :cry_sad:

I'm thinking I'll have to pass over the Grand Prix Racer - a shame, considering all the white parts in that set - and save up for the mobile crane. Maybe I should rob a bank.
