it extends the winch boom ontop of the recovery arm

I'm not sure i understand u, the small cylinder is at the end but what does the big one do? Am i rite saying this has a compressor too?

About 42009 , now that we know the length of the arm is it much longer than 8421 fully extended?

I think he means that the part of the boom that has the cord on it can slide backwards, powered by the hidden large cylinder.

I sure hope so! But I can't confirm or deny it from looking at that one picture. Maybe one of the more experienced Technic aficionados can.

hmmmm, i also liked much more of the construction and the colour scheme of the preliminary one. I mean the boom. :classic: Now it is... just undone. Which is good by one hand -we have a lot possibilities for upgrading, but for the price this thing will have... :hmpf_bad:

@admins: i am not sure if direct linking of this picture is ok now, if not - please feel free to delete, thanks!

The tow truck is cool, i like it a lot.

It's going to be a great year, hey wheres all the big technic heads for these important pictures, blackbird , conchas etc :)

Would like too hear there taughts! Mmm but they never comment on upcoming sets!

Maybe there lego undercover men :)

Anyone seen any more photos of 42008?

Okay, service truck is plain awesome. That is going in to my shopping basket as soon as it shows its face on lego.com.

Any idea how much will that green pleasure cost?

Am i rite saying this has a compressor too?

I thought about this again. Usually, Lego puts the manual pneumatic pump vertically behind the cab, which isn't the case here. Thus, the only point where they could have put it would be the side of the truck that we don't see, and I think that's rather unlikely. So I think there will probably be a compressor!

Oh well, looks like I won't be spending any more money on technic this year afterall. Anyone can use a record number of parts at a higher cost to the customer to create unrealistic mechanisms. This is why they look like noobish MOCs to me.

And why is everyone so pre-occupied with the size of the crane anyway? "ooooooh it's so long!" (EDIT: didn't mean it to sound like that guys! ) but so what?! The helicopter from 8277 was probably the largest helicopter they ever made and also the most crap!

@ allanp: Luckily, your opinions ("noobish MOCs" and "most crap") are in the minority, and The Lego Group has responded to the VAST MAJORITY of Technic AFOL wishes with these 2H2013 sets. If you don't like the sets, don't buy them so there will be more for the appreciative Lego Technic fans to buy!

Yes, saved me from typing a response to that nonsense!

Now for the sets, just plain awesome!

Great movie!!!

First year where every set is a must have for me! And EV3......shut up and take my money.

The crane is huge! Looks better than in the pictures.

I do not totally agree, but I see your point.

I have never understood how people can be easily impressed by big things. Yes it is big, so what ?

I generally pay way more attention to how things are designed.

For instance, the U-joints we can see on the boom of the crane is really meh. This is the kind of "easy solution" we see in AFOL creations. :-/

Looks like red moster truck uses the same suspension as crawler with Unimog's torque tube ball joints and 7L links for stablizing. Hole at this ball joints is used to steer wheels by HOG. There is no any fake engine and differentials here. It is like crawler for "poor" or for liitle boys who like to drive it by hand, not by remote controller:) This is just for my 3 year old son: He still cant understand my love for motorizing.

Monster truck is first pretendent for motorizing. One XL or L will be enough for propulsion, small battery block for weight economy and servo/ m motor for steering right on the front axle.

I'm basing everything upon EV3. I know by the time I get it and Battery pack I'll have spent $410 easy. I have talked myself out of buying all but that crane, although the Service truck is REALLY nice. I HAVE to talk myself out of buying that crane. I have limited my spending this year to EV3 and bricklink orders, but that probably won't be the way it turns out.

Could I see it correct that there is an 8t gear in red on the sliding axles of the outriggers? I suppose this would be a new sliding gear? That looks like a nice solution.

I also noted a shaking blue pneumatic hose on 42008, indicating that there is a compressor?

My wife and wallet won't be pleased...

Yes, that's exactly what I also focused on. It looks like 8t sliding gear. Very nice of TLG.

You probably won't.......talk yourself out of it

Nice! That will make a nice addition to the gear collection.

On a side note: the new 8t gears are a major improvement!

the crane has new frictionless 8t gears. This enable the axle to rotate and extend or retract. NICE! Although red is a strange color...

I'm not that impressed with 42008, looks like something I could (and probably will) build from my own parts. Not a big fan of the green colour either.

42009 on the other hand looks really cool - the new panels, new sliding gear, massive part count, intricate mechanisms.

Although red is a strange color...

Yep, I understand that the sliding 8-tooth gear needs a different colour to differentiate it from the light bley or tan 8-tooth gears, but I would've preferred black. Oh well, at least we finally have a sliding gear! Now for a smaller white clutch gear...

Thankyou for the kind of mature responce I would expect of a so called "A"FOL community :classic: . Responces to critisisms along the lines of "bigger does not always mean better, it could just mean more expensive" and "it looks like a MOC for valid reasons given" with "you're in the minority (of a few dozen posters that's hardley representative of 100'000s of AFOLs) so go away!" and "oooh no, a critisism, i'll just say it's nonsense without giving any reason and run away!" were.......hilarious, no offence guys  .
