Sorry if it's been asked before but couldn't find anything related the codes I have.

Managed to find this set in the Entertainer toy store :)

My actuators have the code 09X2 and 10X2, Not sure if these are ok?

are your IR receivers V2 as well? my 8043 purchase have V2 IRs, i believe this is the easiest indication that the set was the revised set. need confirmation though.

Yep, those are the new actuators. I believe the first batch of the revised actuators were marked 36x0 (for week 36, 2010). Yours are week 9 2012 and week 10 2012, respectively.

Great, thanks for the confirmation.

Been dying to get started :-)

I'm not sure when it was, but there was an update for the 8043 with new actuators and a modification with the gears.

@DLuders - I always rather wondered why the updated LAs for that set looked like they had an 'bent' ram...doesn't seem to affect the playability, just always wondered, I probably missed out on that thread since I was a newbie to the forum when they came out with the revised parts for the 8043...I got in a little bit on the action, but that was well over 2 years ago...

You have been a great advocate for communicating with TLG on instructions issues, but I was just real lucky to have gotten a letter from TLG saying they knew I had bought 4 8043's in July 2010 and would be sending me the updated parts, that was before I joined this group, otherwise I never would have known about the problem, their attention to the issue was fast and that was good for all who wanted or bought that set, which just about every Technic enthusiast did. Luckily I hadn't assembled the set by that time so I waited a LONG time for the parts to arrive before I did.

On another note, has TLG used the updated LA's in all their sets since that issue?

Yes, they have. They lost a lot of money on the 8043's Linear Actuator fiasco. Maybe the reason that the new Power Functions L-Motors and Servo Motors have been withheld from individual sale (until March 2013), because The Lego Group wants to MAKE SURE there aren't any defects found by AFOLs like us.... :look:

@DLuders - thanks for information on the LA's in subsequent sets...I still wonder why the rams fully extended look they are crooked as compared to the previous versions before the 8043 mess-up. They look ok on my 8043 when extended, but still makes my wonder why they look bent...

Because they have reduced the height of the screw thread on the piston to reduce friction, which makes it appear to be 'looser'.

hi to all, i'm new here and this is my first post...

I noticed that there are two box designs of 8043 and I got the first box with V1 receiver inside.

I think the 2nd box is the updated one and comes with the V2 receiver..kindly confirm for those who have it. thanks!

Hmmm, I never knew there were two box designs. I bought my 8043 early on (before the Linear Actuator fiasco), but I had Box Version #2 above, and it definitely did not have the v2 Power Functions Receiver.

i bought mine here in Switzerland (from a department store) just this week but i got the Version1.

I think the Version2 box is more of the Euro version because of the translation????..not sure though...

but just to compare, I checked 8110 Unimog and found out they also have 2 sets of box designs..one indicating the number of pieces, the other one does not have...

The number of pieces is only shown on the American version IIRC. I guess those Yanks love big numbers ;-)

Ah, got it. When installed they look straight, especially the lift of the boom on the 8043. You can definitely feel the weight of the updated LA, they are somewhat heavier, probably due to the grease inside the cylinders. I don't know about all of you, but my 8258 (a year before the 8043 came out) has a lot of trouble with the lift of the crane and unfolding of the crane arm itself. Am thinking about using 2 of the updated LA's and rebuilding the crane part, luckily quite an easy task since it locks into place with the long red pins with stop bushes. Too bad TLG didn't motorize the extension of the crane arm, but it is still a stellar model even so. Looks great (don't even laugh) sitting on the top of my toilet tank, I've got models everywhere. Once when a bad t-storm came through a couple years ago, the LED light kit I hooked up to the holes in the fairings on the front of the cab actually really illuminated my small bathroom... :look:

I've noticed this too when buying from BL or Amazon that some sets don't have the piece count and some do. Guessing some of them came from different countries and sold by US sellers.

Sorry, but ROFL. You do know toilet sprays water droplets as far as a meter away? Your models must be gross
