Is it safe to sign up for Closed Beta again on the new site, if you already signed up on the old site.

You sign up with your email, so it should make no difference.

I think I'll have to play this when it comes out! I never bothered with Universe because I don't like Membership based games. After all, I could be spending that money on Lego

Uh Oh! This can't be good

http://www.gamepolitics.com/2014/01/29/report-funcom-under-investigation-insider-trading#.Uuml1_RDt8E

"Norwegian MMO developer and publisher Funcom is under investigation for insider trading, according to this Eurogamer report. According to the report, staff were sent home today as Norwegian authorities collected documents related to an investigation into insider trading, though specific details about the investigation remain unknown as of this writing. Funcom's stock has also been temporarily frozen on the Oslo stock market."

This seems to revolve around some shadiness involving the last CEO and the launch of the Secret World. So who knows what the impact on the Lego game will be. Although right about now I am betting that Lego is probably having some deep second thoughts about the whole deal.

Wow, if Funcom gets shut down, or held back on working, I believe this game will be doomed. Let us hope for the best and that the game isn't seriously delayed, but I'm almost certain it will be now. Also, what is insider trading? Can anyone dumb it down for me? Also really hope the Gingerbread man is in the game, if it gets released at all that is.

This is probably related to Funcom's other MMOs, this does not have anything to do with Lego Minifigures Online. The staff for Lego Minifigures Online is in NC, i think, and this is related to the main office of Funcom, that controls Secret World MMO.

The problem is its a financial matter. So it really isn't limited to just one site. Even if those with the problem are just there. If there is something real behind this it can lead to the court taking financial oversight steps. Which could very easily spell doom for development projects. Hopefully they are just going after the ex CEO and not the company itself.

Also, what is insider trading? Can anyone dumb it down for me? Also really hope the Gingerbread man is in the game, if it gets released at all that is.

Insider trading is an officer of the corporation, someone connected to them, or someone with explicit internal only business knowledge acting on that knowledge to buy or sell stocks to their own betterment and to the detriment of those investors with only public knowledge.

As an example. Say a game company is about to release a highly anticipated game, that the public is slathering for, but has not yet seen. The CEO has however seen it and knows it is a buggy piece of garbage that will tank at retail. So a few days before release he and his friends and family all cash out their stock while the price is at a high point, knowing it will drop shortly thereafter. They do their stock trades based on secret knowledge that in turn screw the normal investors.

Lego Minifigures Online: March 3, 2014 Update

l The development of the game is on schedule for Open Beta in summer 2014

l The team working on the game met all major deliveries during 4Q12, the first closed

beta being the most important

l The Feedback from testers was good on game play, fun factor and visuals

l Feedback on usability, including user interface and how you interact with it was

mixed, and the team has acted to address these issues in 1Q14. A revised user

interface will be available in the next Closed Beta phase

Private and confidential– intended solely for use by the recipient

l Focus for 1Q14 is to address the issues reported in the first closed beta phase and

initiate a new round of closed beta inviting a few more to participate in testing the

game

l In addition the team continued to deliver a significant amount of features and

content during 4Q13

l Tablet version of the game will be available in 2014

l The current strategy is to launch this game as a “free to play” game in open beta summer

2014

l What defines a game in the ”Free to play” space is the free entrance to the game where

you can play the whole game, or parts of it, for free

l The Company will for LEGO® Minifigures Online utilize a mix of business mechanics that is

known for the ”Free to play” space. This can include different kinds of microtransactions,

Minifigures Online continuously evaluate different business mechanics and change

Private and confidential– intended solely for use by the recipient

according to market needs

l Typically a game in the ”Free to play” space will start soft with focused marketing in

limited markets while constantly tweaking and even changing game and business

mechanics for months and years after commercial launch

l Revenues will typically follow the same trend, starting soft for then to be grown constantly

as the game evolves over months and years

l The Company strongly advise investors to seek more information about the game industry

in general and the ”Free to play” space in terms of revenue expectations in particular

I don't know why Lego doesn't do what Skylander does and sell some content with minifigures and sets. Now, I won't be playing this but it would seem to be a good move assuming the game doesn't suck like the last Lego MMO did. That might be a big assumption because looking at the videos it doesn't look much different and is using the same old Lego video game tropes that people have gotten tired of.

This is definitely taking the Skylander's approach, actually. It looks like only a certain few, CMF's will be available for play and users will have to find the ones the want, and add their code to the game in order to play them.

How much time did you invest into Lego Universe? A few hours doesn't do justice. Or were you just basing that opinion of it's outrageous price?

These tropes are still selling, by the way. Even more so with set cross-promotion.
