I was wondering, is it a must to have a battle scene? I'm currently having tons of ideas for the story to tell, and already three mocs in the making. Two of them in Varlyrio and one half way between Varlyrio and Historica. But I'm not even half-way done telling the story with these three mocs. A battle scene though is far from even being thought of!

You control the action, kabel. I think it will be hard for the judges to distinguish the battle scenes, so I am not planning one as a main build, although the storyline seems to need some type of conflict/resolution. I'm thinking more "War and Peace" eg the story around the war.

The rules state that the build pictures may be photoshopped, but a non-photoshopped picture must also be provided - does that apply to any builds other than the three judged ones?

Also, Robuko,

-After the close of the competition period, a vote will commence to decide which entry will represent the official lore of the Guilds of Historica! Only members of the Guilds of Historica will be allowed to particiapte in this vote.

So apparently there will be voting (though the gold will be handed out via judging), and the winner will have the official story.

Is it allowed to reuse a MOC which has been created for another purpose and modify it to fit as a Challenge VI entry? (it has never been posted on EB) I'm trying to convince myself that producing 2 MOCs of reasonable quality in a month isn't impossible, but 3 seems a bit tight

I'm just wondering, as it is I'm not in any particular guild, do I have to be to participate in this challenge? I'm living somewhere new, have really limited bricks, a few more should arrive sometime next week, and I might try to squeeze something off.

Also, how much customization on figs is allowed (decals, painting, maybe some cloth and glue?)

Thanks (:

No need, just the scored builds.

We want 3 new builds so everyone is on the same footing for time.

You need to be in a guild to score points for that guild or to win a prize for best in your guild, but I suppose not being in a guild, you could still win best story.

No glue ever. 3rd party parts and accessories are okay generally, but will not score as many points as actual LEGO. Cloth and decals that not every has reasonable access to I think would generally not be accepted.

Wait, scores go down for using aftermarket parts? Even though some of the guild leaders have aftermarket parts in the sig figs / story figs? Or are we just talking about using a bunch of off color megablocks here?

in how far does that go for sails and rigging? I'd much rather do cloth sails for my ship than brickbuild ones as has become the costum in the pirate realm.

Aftermarket parts are okay for things like weapons, colors leaves, etc but if you could do the same thing with a nice LEGO parts usage (NPU), that would be better. An aftermarket wizard staff may look awesome, but one built from LEGO parts would generally score more parts. In otherwords the score won't be LOWERED from using third party parts, but could be higher for using LEGO to create the same effect. Make sense?

Cloth sails and string rigging are okay in my book. That is because LEGO itself uses cloth sails and string rigging (or at least it used to).

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but do our non-scored builds for Challenge 6 get freebuild points? The scoring system seems a bit odd to me with 15 max per build here for a monster build but 50 (as I understand) available for a seperate free build - wouldn't it be more efficient to post all of the episodes as freebuilds and to forego the story points?

No. A LOT less gold is scored for free builds, so right now, it would be better to add them into challenge 6 for story and presentation points. But that is really up to you.

That is actually a bit disappointing, free-builds are much much more fun to build. Especially because there is also not much known about scoring of the free-builds compared to challenge entries while one of the major things from the survey was that almost all of us liked to see how the points came to be.

Yes. But it has been a struggle with the sheer volume and the way they are posted to give every free build lots of points. It is something to revisit for sure.

Thanks Z. Some mechanism to balance reward for free builds and challenges would be a good thing to consider for Book 2 of the project. Time is limited so it's one or the other for me, unless challenges get smaller.

So how many points can a free build make right now? 10? 15?

@ZCerberus: I guess my real question was: how many gold is it possible to make per free build?

And challenge builds (other than challenge VI) can make up to 100 gold? Or only 50?

Question on judging - for Legonardo's awesome build, he has put interiors inside MOCs of a different scene. Will the entire build be eligilbe for judging, or just the one of the interior/exterior scenes? I think it's a great idea and I would like to do something similar, but I don't want to waste time.

:classic:

That build which has an interior and an exterior will be judged as ONE build. The build as a whole will be judged so both the interior and the exterior will factor into the judging.

So if the interior of the building doesn't have to match what is on the exterior, can I build 4 different 24x24 builds on a 48x48 base plate, take 4 photographs from angles such that each build looks individual and have it count as one build?

I'm not actually for this, I just want to know.
