Posted January 8, 201312 yr I don't own any of these sets. However, I am interested to know how they compare with one another as they all visually appear similar. If we take away power functions from 8043, do the 8294 or 42006 offer identical feature?
January 8, 201312 yr No, they not. 8043 gearbox is more complex. 8294 and 42006 appear to be more similar.
January 8, 201312 yr Camparison between 8294 and 42006 : yep Between 42006 and 8043 : fatal error It is like comparing 8069 and 8455, its irrational Edited January 8, 201312 yr by Timoonn
January 8, 201312 yr Isn't 8043 like on another completely higher level? The size alone? OP, if you got money to splash i would go for 8043. Edited January 8, 201312 yr by shadowhearth
January 8, 201312 yr 8043 wins is asthetics, functionality, RC factor, usefull parts and fun. Simply 8043 EPIC WIN compared to other 2. P.S. without PF 8043 is still better, with more gears. Edited January 8, 201312 yr by Zblj
January 9, 201312 yr It will be hard to top the 8043, that set will be on top for many years to come. Kinda think of it as the 8421 of the excavator world. Dan
January 9, 201312 yr I just sold my 8294 to get the 42006. Its in yellow and has 3 individual boom features. 8294 has 2, one of which does the arm and bucket together. Comparing to 8294 or 42006 to the 8043 is like comparing a bicycle to a motorcycle. To take the "engine" out of 8043 would make it pointless, and need to be heavily modified to make it manual.
January 9, 201312 yr yes 8043 is far superior compared to the two even without the PFs. however, i didn't like its bucket (bec it's big, and not too "lego" for me). i like how they innovated it on 42006 like a toothed arm. Edited January 9, 201312 yr by Shu
January 9, 201312 yr 8043 is one of the best flagship models ever and like Skylinedan said, it will be for a long a time. If you can spend the cash, get it while it's affordable. It's and end of line product, so prices will rise soon. The other two models are fun, especially the 42006 looks great, with great functions, but there's no way you should compare them with the 8043.
January 9, 201312 yr Like the others said, get the 8043 while still available.. I got mine last week from a suisse department store for about EUR 227.00 That's the last one on stock and cannot find it anywhere except ebay.
January 9, 201312 yr I guess we are very lucky in The Netherlands. I can still pick one up for 150 euros. I see Amazon.co.uk is selling for 188 Pounds.

I agree on the 8043, it is a totally different scale, its like comparing the 8421 to the 8053. I tend to group flagships like the 8043 and 8421 in a totally different scene. The 8294's box is exactly the same size as the 42006's is, and thus is on the same scale. I'm still planning on modding 1 of my 8294's with a just a 2-prong grabber, problem is like said above the 8294 only had 2 LA's and the 42006 has 3...would almost have to add in a mini-LA for the grabber claws. That's my holdup right now. Have all the needed parts, just the design is tough threading another axle, or else I would have to manually operate the claw by hand... Like the others said, get the 8043 while still available.. One thing I don't understand, US S@H still lists the 8043, but it is sold out and at a sale price, so you can't even add it to your cart Though I have 2 unopened 8043's so wasn't interested in purchasing it because of money flow, but still why do they offer it at a sale price if you can't even acquire it...
